OBSE Update Problems

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 6:30 am

I had OBSE version 14. I was downloading some mods and they said to get the latest OBSE, so I downloaded it and followed the instructions to install it. All good.

Ok, so I go to my Oblivion folder, and there is version 14 still up! I even opened the folder and checked, yes it is version 14. I found version 17 in the Oblivion folder laying around as loose files, it didn't set up its own folder - is it working? Should I delete version 14 and then re-download it?

The latest version of http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&ct=res&cd=1&ved=0CAgQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fobse.silverlock.org%2F&ei=lDnBS4DzHcOqlAeYy_zcBA&usg=AFQjCNH8XIX2DHFotAglNGVXhXsXuHxz0w&sig2=WVUtLLh5B9cwtbHBTD3yxA v18b6. To install:

# Download Oblivion Script Extender (OBSE) to the Oblivion folder
# Extract it there. (It will add a folder containing the OBSE files.)
# Copy the following up into the Oblivion folder: "obse_1_2_416.dll", "obse_editor_1_2.dll", and "obse_loader.exe"
# Delete the folder and the archive it added
>> notes: from now on!! do use the obse_launcher.exe to launch your game, launching the game with OBSE-dependent plugins (not OBSE plugins) installed guarantees a crash, so it is best to get used to always using this launcher

Obse's three DLLs and the obse_loader.exe are supposed to be "loose in the oblivion folder". If they are in a different folder, the program won't work.

I thought the version 18.4 was still in beta?

Can I still launch it from the OBMM?

@ showler - When I downloaded version 14 it set itself up in the Oblivion folder with its own folder (obse_0014a) and all the files for OBSE are in that folder. But with the new version they didn't do that, they are just loose in the Oblivion folder - which makes more stuff to avoid when moving screenshots out. It is inconvenient, but I don't mind that as much as wondering if the OBMM is using it or is using the version 14?

What Showler said. If your OBSE 14 was in a seperate folder, you didn't actually have it. All the files, except for the source code, are supposed to go into the base Oblivion folder. Then you launch the game using the OBSE_loader file.

What is the third DLL that needs to be installed? I always installed everything, so...

Edit: That is for Steam, nevermind...

I have been loading it off the OBMM, is that a no-no when you have the OBSE?

That's only because you didn't install it correctly.

But with the new version they didn't do that, they are just loose in the Oblivion folder

Which is exactly where they're supposed to be.

Well it's certainly not using version 14, it never was. It will look for the loose files in your main Oblivion folder. And you don't need to launch the game from OBMM to use OBSE. Just set up a shortcut to the obse_loader.exe file and use that. If you go into properties you can even change the icon so it looks exactly like the default icon.

OBMM automatically detects and uses the OBMM launcher, so that is fine. However, I agree with Corepc. You should make a shortcut to it. Get rid of the shortcut to the regular launcher to make sure you do not accidentally launch that version either.

Not a no-no but unnecessary.

Ok, I will start using the OBSE launcher from now on. I started launching off the OBMM because I was already in it and it was easier, lol. Thank you so much for all your help everyone!!

Oh, wow, I need to go to bed... Before I do, however, can I host your load order Belanos? http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1064823-pyffi-optimized-thread-2/page__view__findpost__p__15837424 to find out what information I would need. If you are willing, please post the information in that thread.

I am really, really tired. Sorry about that...

Remove them. The important files should have been overwritten, but the others are outdated. There is not point in leaving them there wasting space.

I'm not sure what good it would do. My load order is pretty much just what the BOSS utility tells me it should be. I stopped trying to sort it myself a long time ago.

It is not just about the load order. Does your setup run nearly crash free? Do you get the hours you want out of it before Oblivion eats itself? That is the point. I also want to have different types of load orders in that library, and they are certainly not all the same. I expect almost everyone to use BOSS.

You can still launch the game from OBMM and it will launch using OBSE if you installed it correctly. However, when you start getting a good number of mods, OBMM can take longer than the game to load up.....so it's a waste of time usually launching that and THEN the game.

So far it is still loading quickly, and the game rarely crashes - I have a lot of mod conflicts though, and have to uncheck mods each time I play (the mods I am not using that day for the screenshots). If I don't uncheck the majority of mods each time everything ends up with giant gray and yellow arrows in it. So since I was already in the mod manager I just have been launching from it.

Those are probably yellow triangles with an exclamation mark in them. It means that you have some missing meshes. Which also means you have some mods that weren't installed properly.

Well that's fine, but you have to make sure that the files are going into the proper folders in your Oblivion/Data folder. You can't just move the whole mod folder over, meshes have to go into the Meshes folder, textures into the Texture folder etc. If you're extracting them to your desktop, you'll have a folder with the mod's name. Inside that it should have it's own Data folder. That's what you need to copy over.

Now that is the clearest explanation I have ever gotten! I have been opening every file individually and copying each individual sheet over to the data, so there are probably a lot of meshes that did not get into the meshes folder! Hmmmm! Thank you so very much for your help - usually when someone gives instructions they assume the person is knowledgeable about PC's - I am absolutely NOT knowledgeable, lol. Thank you so much! I guess I need to go reload a bunch of mods now, ROFL - seriously.
