Obsidian doing another spin-off before fallout 4?

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 3:54 pm

Well, I was thinking that we are about years (three maybe?) from seeing Fallout 4, since Obsidian is not working on FO4, I was thinking they should do another spin off. Just my opinion. What do you guys think?

I don't like the term "spin-off" and I would like them to work with Bethesda on Fallout 4.

When it comes to Fallout I have learned to wait.

They're working on a south park rpg at the moment which is a full scale project so i doubt they have time.
Besides, I'd rather not have them work on another Fallout game with such a ridiculous deadline again

They're doing a South Park RPG right now so I doubt that they have time to do another Fallout spinoff.

If there will be any Obsidian Fallout game, then I bet it will be released after FO4.

I really think Bethesda should hire some of Obsidians writers.

It's not just Obsidian writers, that make the difference. Their designers have different idea of how RPG game should look like. To be honest I prefer more beliavable characters and world made by Obsidian, than Wasteland crawling by Bethesda.

I'd like Bethesda to design the Wastes, cuz I LOVE the Capital Wasteland. And have Obsidian write the quests, NPC's and random encounters.

I wouldn't mind them doing another game, spinoff or not. Especially if they get to do it with their Onyx engine and implement gameplay more akin to the originals -- say, a Tactics esque "offshoot" from the series, but with much higher RPG elements and much heavier storytelling.

A game with the current gameplay wouldn' be bad either, but don't favor the ES gameplay mold as I find it extremely tiresome and limiting.

One can dream.

Could you imagine how better the game could have been with a full scale dev time?

They have two more projects going on top of that. Sawyers next project and one other about which nothing concrete is know thus far.

If anything Beth made the spinoff and Obsidian made the true sequel to FO2.

Even less likely that they'll be able to make another Fallout game before Fallout 4 then.
Unless one of these are a Fallout project, but I doubt it.

Agreed, but Bethesda said NV was the "spinoff" so what they say, goes.

NV should be fallout 3

Fallout 3 should be Fallout Returns or something like that.

Spin-off and sequel don't really apply anymore. Fallout 2 is the only true squel in that it picks up where Fallout left off 80 years before.

Fallout 3 is named Fallout 3 because it would sell better that way, (No I am not bashing Fallout 3) its only a sequel in the sense that its next in line (not including Tactics).

Spin-off would apply to Tactics because it isn't an RPG.

Still so what if its a "spin-off?" does it make it a lesser game? IMO it doesn't but spin-off implies that it is. I just call them Fallout games.

Fallout 4 could be a sequel in that it picks up where Fallout 3 left off but I really hope that isn't the case.

If Bethesda is going to let them do it, then they better use upgraded tech (i.e. Skyrim engine)

Beth can make an incredibly epic world, no doubt. But fall way short in story telling and dialog. Plus questlines in general. Multiple branches and multiple endings is just not their thing...at all.

They need to team up with or just kidnap hire the Obsidian writers. The result would be the most epic RPG of all time.

They also need to stop looking down on gamers and "cuddling" them by heavy player levelscaling and ripping all consequences and restrictions out (or severily watering them down) from their games.

If they are even on next-gen consoles what would that do to the game for most people? If they release it next years its pretty likely the game will come out for PS3 and the 360 also which most people will probally still have. Unless Microsoft (or sony if they make one by that time) do what the Wii did and make their console pretty cheap.

As long at is severely updated from FO3 and NV I wouldn't mind it. But thats highly unlikely at the moment. At this point I think its best of we just wait for the release of FO4. Heres hoping its completely and utterly amazing!

Both Microsoft and Sony denied that they would announce or release a new console anytime soon. If it's true or not is still a mystery. I would expect Fallout 4 to be released in a year or two.
