So Obsidian = Original Fallout team...Then why.....

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 4:49 am

Why is Bethesday making this series when the original Devs from Interplay are now at Obsidian? Bethesda needs to stick to the Elder Scrolls series and leave this series to the people that created it. I can list the reasons why, but they just arent doing the series justice - sure its picking up new fans - but it can be so much more- and any Fallout 1-2 player can see that. Thoughts?

I find it funny people keep asserting Bethesda isn't doing the series justice when many of the series original devs, such as Tim Cain, Chris Avellone, and Brian Fargo, have all given thumbs up to Fallout 3, and said it got things like the lore and universe right.

Also, Obsidian has their own projects to work on, such as PoE, and the MMO thing they are making.

BGS bought the rights to the franchise. They shipped 12 millions physical copies at launch. Steamspy reports over 1.8 millions digital copies sold.

Look at it from the cold and hard business perspective. BGS now has TWO cash cows franchises.

It's a matter of opinion whether they're doing the series justice.

2/10

PLENTY of old school fans, myself included, that love Bethesda's contribution to the IP. Also, with the power of the internet at your disposal, it's easy enough to trace the sale and acquisition of the franchise IP. If you are so personally offended by Bethesda's treatment of the franchise, perhaps take it up with the previous owner.

I started playing Wasteland. And I think Bethesda is doing a fantastic job. Everybody seems to be either a Bethesda Fallout fan, or a Obsidian/Interplay Fallout fan. I dont get it. Every single one of the Fallout games have been fantastic. There are no rotten eggs in this franchise(At least, not so far).

Then again, maybe I'm easy. I even enjoyed FO:BOS (For what it was)

well IMO Fallout NV was better than Fallout 3

Fallout 3's story was complete trash- but it was still a good game because it took fallout into a 3d world (although it was pretty ugly and brown/grey)

But seriously- a water purifier? wtf is that crap. And the Enclave and BOS was treated like second rate garbage in FO3

NV did it a little better- but they still played by Bethesda rules - and probably limited themselves

I still stand by my statement that Interplay/Obsidian would make a better fallout dev. I dont care if they gave a thumbs up to FO3- SO DID I- because it was the first time the dev went 3d into a world i wanted to explore. It was new and exciting until you played the story

one more thing- Bethesda is OBSESSED with the northeast. They need to realize all the lore is out west- NO ONE CARES ABOUT THE NORTH EAST GUYS.

Im glad Obsidian is at least taking it back to the west (when they make games) where all the factions are located- Ill take the NCR, Master Vault, Enclave, Poseidon, etc are OVER whatever crap they shoved down our throat in DC - F the Institute lol

Fallout 4 is my favorite Fallout game, part of it might be that it still has the new car smell.

Any real fans know that

Also, only Tim Cain of the Troika currently works for Obsidian. Leonard and Jason Anderson work for Blizz and Turtle Rock studios respectively and Avellone wasn't doing work in F1 which is one of the reasons he doesn't get the lore and themes of the series and ruined some of F2 and NV the Johnny-come-lately that he is.

ChrisT and Scott Campbell aren't with Obsidian as well.

But then any real fan would know all this.

Feargus Urquhart is with Obsidian however, love the guy. Chris Jones and Darren Monahan are also with them.

Claiming that Obsidian consists of all the original team is quite innacurate.

>No one cares about the region that out nation's government is based in, and where all the most important events of our nations founding took place

What?

I never said it did, I never even said all those people work at Obsidian.

Where the hell did you get any of this from?

Bite your tongue! Now I think it would be absolutely kickass to have Fallout 5 in the south, Texas would be sweet! Those people are already stereotypically considered gun nuts, I would love to see a post WW3 Dallas. But like I said in another post. Detroit Michigan would make a great Fallout area, it would allow the Fallout universe to work more on larger transportation vehicles, etc. Florida or California, because killing Raiders in Disney would be the @#!$.

What are you talking about? The original games were out west WHERE ALL THE MAJOR FACTIONS AND CHARACTERS WERE. The East was completely wiped out by nukes BECAUSE IT WAS THE CAPITAL AND FINANCIAL CENTER OF THE US. Who the hell cares about the past society - this is the Fallout world with its own lore- WHICH IS BASED IN THE WEST

As proven by FO3 and FO4- the story out east is non existent.

Nothing in the original games stated this.

And Fallout is about America, and there is more to America then just the west coast.

Which is why Tactics was made to cover a large part of the Midwest, and Fo3 and 4 cover the middle and northern parts of the east coast.

Hell, Obsidian have said they want to do Fallout New Orelans, which is nowhere near the west.

i dont hate the game- i love fallout- i just think it could have been so much better - its as shallow as a puddle when it could be as deep as the ocean. all the lore is right there - thats all im saying

Oh that would be awesome!

But then they must get the time and resources necessary to finish it properly so to avoid the buggy unfinished mess that is F2 and NV, Kotor 2 and almost every game they made.

To be fair, basically every large game on the scale of GTA, TES, Fallout, and MMOs, are broken, buggy, and unfinished messes.

That's really just a natural result of making a game that large.

I doubt they will have the time to do it since I believe they are busy with other projects.

This x1,000.

Everytime someone with selective amnesia gives Obsidian a free pass to exercise their hubris, a puppy dies.

Passable writers making too many broken games.

Maybe they could work for Hallmark... I refuse to invest any more of my hard earned dollars into any title bearing that name.

Besides I thought the NMA crowd had Wasteland 2 and Pillars of Eternity to satisfy their thirst for isometric, turn based nostalgia.

gamesas revived Fallout. Did a fantastic favour to folks like me who have been Fallout fans since day 1....Fallout 4 is huge and will survive many playthroughs.

Obsidian need to let it go.

You again? I played the first Fallout when it was new, before you were born. I love Fallout 4 and I loved Fallout 3 and I loved FNV. Sorry you don't like it.

Can we assume this will be your last post and you will be moving on to a different game?

As a person who lives in Michigan, I can tell you that Detroit already looks like a hydrogen bomb went off. If anyone wants to see Fallout in real life, just take a trip to inner city Detroit.

What makes you think the franchise would be so much better if Interplay still owned the IP? Do you think Tactics and BoS were better additions to the franchise?

Seriously there is a reason they had to fund PoE through kick starter, i love that game but old school RPG's is a niché genre, and not something publishers are interested in. There is absolutely no guarentee it would have been better,

The only thing that's safe to say is that it wouldn't have been open world,it would have a bigger focus on story and there would probably be more bugs. And not every Obsidian story is all that good, ever played NWN2?(Not Mask of the Betrayer, that was fantastic, the OC)

You can dream up what they shoulda, coulda, woulda done till your face turns blue, reality would never match it anyway. Bethesda has the IP now and they're putting their spin on it, just enjoy it for what it is or don't.
