Obsidian should make the Skyrim DLC.

Post » Tue Nov 29, 2011 2:45 am

OK first off this is in no way a bashing of Bethesda. Their games are awesome, but I have an idea.
I think Obsidian should make the DLC for Skyrim. Bethesda makes great games but horrible DLC. Just take Oblivion and Morrowind for example, I mean horse armor, an island where you mindlessly fight a thousand skeletons and nothing else, and random player houses. I would say Bethesda does not know how to make proper DLC. Obsidian on the other hand (based on NV) makes epic DLC that fits in great with the game and each one has an intriguing story line. I did not mind the Morrowind DLC because it was all free but the DLC for Oblivion was a joke, I mean come on, charging us money for something that they literally spent 15mins on goofing around in the Construction set. I think Obsidian makes much for fair DLC as far as price to content goes. And they are some of the greatest writers in the video game industry. Who else agree that the DLC should be outsourced to Obsidian?

You are saying that Dead Money and Old World Blues were better than Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles?

How much did all that useless DLC for Oblivion cost?

$1.99 a piece?

And how much was New Vegas?

If you want to do a fair comparison, at least compare New Vegas with Shivering Isles.

Well Said. Bethesda knows how to do great DLCs if they truly want.

TES is Bethesda's original series....

Each Fallout was made by a different company basically. Interplay made a few more though.

I'd rather have Bethesda do it.

Obsidians work was sketchy at best. Way to many bugs and glitches, like they didn't even try to test it.

I would much prefer DLC for a game to be made by the same team that made the game. More likely for it to "fit" with the game.

(Not that I'm a huge fan of DLC.)

Yes, but Bethesda is modelling it's DLC for Skyrim around KotN and SI.

I would not mind seeing Obsidian do some writing, but not actual world/content design.

Compare the price and amount of content to New Vegas. See how they're similar?

It's like complaining that Bejeweled 2 Blitz doesn't offer the same depth of gameplay as Civilization V.

2.99 for horse armor. and that is a lot. 2.99 for something that litterally adds 2 items that are pretty useless. and it prolly took them 10-15 minutes to make.

Bethesda has already said they plan on making big expansion like DLC's that take a decent amount of time.

Honestly I think FO3 had the best DLC system, and that was Bethesda, NV's DLC were mediocre and while Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine were well-made and a lot of fun, they weren't very well balanced. I like the 5 similarly large expansions that weren't too huge but added a bit of everything to the game, from new areas to new enemies and items. That was a pretty perfect system and I hope we see more of that for Skyrim.

How about Obsidan starts making their own damn rpg series? All they do is making horrible follow ups to other games, kotor 2, fallout new vegas(this one was great), neverwinter nights 2 and so on. They are good, they could make a brilliant rpg series if they wish to do so, but keep them miles away from TES!! kotor 2 was a disaster!!!!

Noooo. Bethesda knows how to make TES DLC. They are the only ones that know how to. I doubt Obsidian would do good on Skyrim DLC

Dead Money is certainly better than most of OB DLCs (most, not all) but that is my least favorite. OWB is better than all OB DLCs I think OWB is one of the best DLCs of all time. Heck, even the Couriers stash is better than Horse Armor.

I think you're being a little ridiculous. And by "a little", I mean "a whole lot". And by "ridiculous", I mean "stupid".

Regardless of how bad horse armor was, it certainly took them quite a bit of time to make. And it still only cost $2.99. You're drawing a comparison between that and an expansion for Fallout that cost $29.99 at release.

Edit: Also, you've picked the one awful Oblivion DLC that was offered. Most of the other small ones were quite fun, especially for the low price, and Knights of the Nine was huge and awesome.

I'm fine with Obsidian doing FO, but they need to stay the hell away from TES.
