Obsidian, what are they up to?

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 10:26 am

The title says it all.

I can't seem to find any hint or any info about whether or not their working on somthing or not.
This doesn't mean Fallout, just any titles they may have their hands on.

They're working on the South Park RPG, then there's J.E. Sawyers new project (of which nothing is known, but a vague tweet about stealth gameplay (remember reading about it somewhere) and hints towards discussions with Eidos Montreal and Square Enix, and these may not even mean anything towards their future endeavors), and then there is the Wheel of Time RPG which may or may not happen, and which Obsidian is allegedly only helping with and not really "developing".

Only the South Park RPG is announced.

Someone with better knowledge, feel free to correct me if there is something to correct.

Uhhh, I guess someone that worked on Fallout 2 is actually working on the game.
The article that I read made it sound like their actually tryn to make a good game and not just exploit the South Park name. Kinda shocked, to be honest.

A South Park RPG, which would be awesome if they didn't try to make it make sense. :)

South Park RPG? That sounds terrible.

Shouldn't take it too seriously, it is a game based on a tongue in cheek violent poophumor afterall. Trey and Matt are writing the main storyline, but as far as I know, Obsidian handles the rest (with T and M overseeing it), so there's a good possibility that it offers fairly solid storytelling and RPG gameplay probably with a few good laughs (jabs at other games) - and as Matt and Trey are participating, it was said to be a serious effort at making an RPG in that particular setting (more serious than the earlier SP games, anyway).

It likely is a hit/miss thing depending on whether or not you like South Park to begin with.

I don't care about South Park either way, just can't see how it could possibly be successful.

One could have said the same about the plan to make a goofy-arsed game about simulating people eating, pooping, sleeping and working... but look how many units The Sims has sold. No accounting for taste.

The South Park RPG will be interesting. It could be really good or it could be terribad.
They are working on other 'unannounced' projects too.

The South Park RPG is being written by the actual South Park writers, the graphics look 100% like the show, and its being made by Obsidian, whats not to like?

Quite a lot for someone who doesn't like South Park. I personally do kind of like the show, but never really got into it.

This is akin to hearing about Silicon Knights working on Too Human (haha) or X-Men Destiny (hahahahaha), when in reality, all you want is more Eternal Darkness...

Trey Parker and Matt Stone are writing it? That's good. Last South Park game I played was for the N64 and it got old fast. I am not really a fan of South Park anymore. It is like Family Guy in that every episode keeps pushing the limits. Which is good and bad. Good in that the new shows are funny and keeps me watching. Bad in that I can't go back to the old episodes. I have seen them all before and I have become desensitized to them. I always think to myself "How did I ever think this was funny?"

Hopefully Obsidian will get to work on another Fallout game. Now that they have Tim Cain. Hopefully the other devs that worked on Fallout will jump the sinking ship that is Interplay and join Obsidian.

I do remember that Obsidian was/is also planning an XBLA Diablo-clone game.

But beside that South Park rpg, we really know nothing of the projects Obsidian is working on.

I only wish for another Sawyer/Avellone Fallout game.
