Obsidian, you're killing me...

Post » Wed Apr 22, 2009 9:29 am

I am a great big fan of Fallout, every Fallout ever released. They are, simply put, my bread and butter. I am a svcker for Ron Pearlman voiceovers, radscorpions, molerats, and super mutants with trees growing out of their heads. I bought Fallout Tactics the day it was released, and I nearly wet my pants when I heard Fallout 3 was being made. The continuation of the series with New Vegas, and the upcoming Fallout 4 serve only to enhance my gaming life. That is to say, I will forever have a giant boner for any team that works on a Fallout game. It is for this reason that I feel so bad asking, "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU PEOPLE DOING!?"
How hard can it be to release a game without radscorpions flying across the wastes, without weird gaps between rock meshes, without "traps" in the terrain I can only escape with console commands, without crashes every time I consider doing something other than not playing Fallout? Did you learn nothing from the issues of Fallout 3? Have you learned nothing from the modding community? I love the game, I really do. But when I have to save (in a new file) every five minutes just to cover my ass for crashes, there's something wrong.
Is it the beta-testing crew that is incompetent, or are you so desperate to vomit out new material in an expedient way that you care nothing for quality control?

I for really real love you guys for developing these games, but please, please, please, please take a little more care with them.

And Bethesda was in charge of testing and fixing the bugs were they not?

Edit: Sorry QA stands for Quality assurance

What they do?
They had less time and less people.
Not much that could be done.
If they had the same amount of people working on it as Bethesda or if they had another year imagine how awesome the game would have been.
They made the best out of the situation they had.
The best out of a bad situation.
Don't see how it's any of Obsidians fault really.

Bethesda does the testing and are the publishers,

THEY could delayed the game, but nope, 2 years, just 2 years, how nice :whistling:

At least you don't have to live with the atrocious, never-ending, frequent freezing of the PS3 version <_<

Or maybe you do. -_-

Lets hope Bethesda puts Obsidian in charge of Fallout 4 and lets them set their own time and do a proper QA.

My feeling is also that the Publi$her pushed the game out the door too $oon. I'm a big believer in Karma though. It's very sad; when I think of how great the game could have been with the unfinished looking areas completed and incomplete-looking quests finished and ready for us to play (Morales body). I don't play my PS3 version because it crashes so much. There's $60 I'll never see again. It's a beautifully written game and I'm happy about that but not happy about the obvious rush job.

Obsidian says they're working on the DLC now but I think it would go a long way for a new patch that fixes any problems that were created with the last patch like broken Boone. That's not fixed on any format by the corporation(s), only the modders and that's just wrong. No new patch has been announced yet.

I play on PS3 just fine.

@Gabe- I'm sure had Bethesda been the one who developed this game the exact same way as it is now, you wouldnt be so defensive of it.

I think the Glitches,Bugs, and freezes are worse in FNV than in F3 no lie. they could have at least fix those things.

No....... My god people the games bugs are not that bad...... Maybe once or twice and only if you've been playing for 16 hours straight then it will crash but only then..

Thats only if Beth doesnt do a good job

Now, if they did it a stellar job....

Bugs, Glitchs, Freezes, big deal for me at least, I experience this since Oblivion, and that game still needs another unnofficial patch to fix the bugs

BTW: I got FO3 GOTY edition, freezes every time that i got to Tenpenny Tower, bugs, and glitches

I preffer a game with free bugs with a stellar writing, than a game with not so much bugs, but a really linear and fixed story

So, you'd like Bethesda Game Studios in charge of Fallout 4, the ones who made Fallout 3, a game that is alike a steel girder in its unflinching linearity.

I wouldn't.
Right now I can defend Obsidian since it was Bethesda's fault for a lot of the bugs and rushed things.
But if Bethesda did everything then there is no one to defend since they're both the developer and publisher.
Then it'd be all their fault.

As long as they get their facts straight that Fallout isn't some dungeon crawler dumbed down shooter with RPG elements and do it right this time then yeah I wouldn't mind it Bethesda were all that worked on FO4.
Would rather have a joint operation with both of them or at least contract some people from Obsidian to help out.

I love this game to death, but the glitch issue is just too much. I don't even have a way to get patches, with no Xbox live, and no PC capable of running the game.

Normally I don't really care about glitches, I actually kinda enjoy them sometimes; they have a certain charm to them. But when glitches get me killed, I get pissed. This game is not finished. It should not have been released like this, and it's the buggiest game I've ever played. Between my character's arms floating above his head, lever action rifles being unresponsive in every way at times (not even allowing me to interact with other objects, usually), invisible walls that keep me off of rockfaces, random freezing, NPCs that forget I talked to them, floating radscorpions, ect, it can be really hard to even enjoy just wandering around at times, which is a very bad thing for a Fallout game.

Next release, I hope they can please just make sure it's [censored] playable before release. That's all I want.

For their first attempt at the Fallout universe, I think they did great, even with what I've learned about the previous titles. I personally enjoy the massive atmospheric difference between the east and west coasts. Bethesda rules the east.

They've learned, they've hopefully listened a little, and I think that 4 will blow everyone away, new and old fans alike.

Right....The atmosphere............THAT SODDING GREEN TINT!!!

Bethesda are not competent enough to handle Fallout. First effort or not, it still svcked. It was clearly marketed towards a casual audience.
