Obtaining Power Armor ?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 3:20 am

I know you can find Power Armor Frames out in the wasteland with random, level-based armor pieces, and that the Brotherhood of Steel gives you a set of Power Armor at a certain point in their quest line. My question is whether or not these are the only ways to get Power Armor pieces, or can I find pieces through other means? I'm worried that if I range out too far too soon and manage to get all the Power Armor Frames too early, that I'll screw myself out of being able to get all the different armor pieces (I at least want a full set of all 5 types, and may give different ones different builds and paid jobs, so I may need even more than that). And before anyone says anything, I know that there are unique Power Armor armor pieces; I'm not interested in those at the moment;just the generic stuff.

Raiders have their own kind of raider power armor. If you want those pieces, kill the raider thats wearing it and take the pieces. You will find more frames and different types of power armor out there, though. You should be able to amass 5 sets, i'd say.

I currently have 4.

There are some guaranteed spots, but they're protected by baddies.

I have 2 frames.

Not had to go into a huge battle yet, so the Power Armor has mostly stayed at home.

Though I'm amassing cores...

Frames are pretty common, Complete Sets are harder to find. As has been mentioned pieces can be looted from the fallen.

I found a raider with a power armor and killed him. Does anyone have an idea how to get the PA frame off of the corpse? I got the armor pieces, no problem there, but the frame seems to be locked to the corpse.

You can't. However I read somewhere that if you steal enemy power core (given you can manage that), he will exit his power armour in which case you can take the frame.

What can you do with frames? (other than just line them up nicely in a row.) Usually whenever I find power armor I'm short on inventory space so I just hop into it and take it back to my settlement. Problem is, I have a feeling that I'll be getting quite the collection of frames with no real use for them.

Humanoid companions can use power armour. You can also have several frames in different places and use the closest one as you need. Not much else.

How do you get companions to wear PA?

Enter command mode by clicking activate button on them (E on PC) then click at the power armour. They have to be your active companion however. And they will exit power armour when you dismiss them.

So the general consensus is that the Power Armor Frames are the best and pretty much only source of Power Armor parts, except for a few pieces that may show up in vendor inventories. So I shouldn't run to the ends of the map collecting all the Power Armor Frames until I'm a much higher level. Thanks, all.

If you leave power armor out with the fusion core in, at a settlement the settler will get in them when they are attacked. You can also buy frames from some shops as well as pieces.

I have five frames. I've got a nearly fully built T-60, a partial T-51, a completely blank frame, and a frame with a T-60 Torso on it. I'm not counting the "gimme" set. I've upgraded that one pretty far. I've got pieces, sitting in my workshop inventory, for a Raider set. I think that set is just shy of completely ugly so I am just leaving it to rot.

My question is can you sell frames? I know you can sell pieces.

I've got about a dozen frames already. But maybe only enough pieces for 4 or 5, which includes the one my character uses.

Ultimately, if I can, plan on equipping my caravan guards with PA's if I get enough pieces for them.

heh I have 3 complete sets of power armor collecting dust and around 30 or so cores. The are pretty pointless atm. Unless a way is given to create more efficient power armor or a rechargeable core.

From what I hear the moment someone who isn't your current companion tries to do something that can't be done in the power armor. They will exit the power armor and leave it god knows where with the core still inside and available for someone else to make off with.

Yeah, when GECK comes out, I am going to go searching for those values. Walking and basic jogging should not use the Fusion Core up. VATS, Sprinting, etc. should still cause it to deplete. As is, I basically have to violate my "no fast travel" rule in order to use my PA. svcks.

I just got a set of plates from a raider lord and was going to put the old set on my 1 extra frame or vice versa but I'm not going to use 2. Raider set doesn't have much in upgrades but is stronger than the basic. First real use of pa and it worked well. I got through a factory with a pa boss on one core. I think.mYou just have to know what fight you're going to and try not to sprint. And I went back to loot afterwards. Unfortunately pa isn't for exploring. Psycho jet is a good substitute for pa and both together are deadly. I'll have to try a stealth boy on the boss at corvega but frames sound plentiful.

The suit needs a core in it for your companion to accept the order to enter the suit.

However I don't think their use depletes the core. I gave my companion's suit a single 5/100 core and she walked around with me through battlefields to my destination to the point where every piece of armor on the suit was 100% damaged and only the frame was left.

Giving a suit to your companion might be a viable way to transport a power armor frame around for your use when you need it without draining a core. If there is a way to deal with carrying around the suit parts without letting them get damaged.
