Obvious scripted dragon death

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 11:15 am

It's pretty silly to see this sort of thing in a game with a big budget. watch the vid. enjoy, and LOL away @ a dragon being teleported to site of death.

I don't see your point, Dragons crashland all the time, any random Dragon can do it, though the Terrain got in the way of that one, hence the teleport.

What happens is the game doesn't know how to handle death in that situation. That's really all it is. The crash is what happens when they die in the air. They're not programmed to die while perched. So they go into the initial stage, launch, go into the air, then death catches up.

it teleported, not because of the terrain, but because that was where it died. hence the thread title. obvious huge over-sight by devs. if you are going to have a kill-able dragon perched like a bird, at least script in a proper death animation for it. This is an AAA title.\

Below link is lollable as well.

3x sneak damage. poison. dual enchanted bow. all made from in game items. nothing modded. no need for it.

That doesn't change the fact that the death animation is poorly implemented (if at all lol) for perched dragons.

/edit
forgot ebony arrows.

They didn't expect people to be able to kill dragons that fast. And they shouldn't be able too... it's stupid...

Was that your video? If so, how do you zoom out that far in the third person view? I can not find any way to adjust my view, seems its zoomed all the way in. I'm on PS3, I'm sure that is the problem all together.

I don't even know why the Dragon would need a death animation, just let the Ragdoll slump.

I expected BGS to produce a flawless game. Especially when considering its animations.

I also can't wait for my new-found Nigerian banker friend to deposit the 60 milllion USD into my savings account!!!

Its not scripted, your just not suppose to kill them in one hit either, cheater...

The condition goes, they have to be on the ground standing up to die properly.

I think I met up with that dragon when I was doing a quest for something else. Maybe the dragon was part of the quest I don't know but I don't remember it dying in a weird way.

Well, as you can see, it looks like it's hard coded in.

also to this cheater non-sense.

100 smith. 100 enchant. 100 alchemy. 100 archery. make your own gear. it's fun.

218 hours logged in game. not a single cheat. no need for it.

/edit
missed your post Dawg, if you are on a console, sorry. there is no way that i'm aware of to set your FOV.

you can clearly see that the inertia of the dragon was calculating it at that position. the smoke goes there but the body got caught on the terrain then caught up. sure there is no death animation for a perched dragon, i can't imagine it being hard to implement one because they could just have them go ragdoll immediately. but seeing as skyrim doesn't have destructive terrain, what do you expect?

I found this out the other day. The dragons in some respawn places like mounds only give the soul once. They are scripted to respawn in that place only. Now the spawns you get near towns and exploring are different and randon, so they give a soul all the time.

So basically you powerlevelled certain skills to effectively break the game and now you're upset that the in game animations can't handle you one-shotting dragons? This isn't an MMO, no-one is going to give you an award.

That's not a scripted death, that's abuse of crafting, genius.

Except that there is a bug where dragons do not give a soul at all, regardless of their origin. I have endured this bug on my Breton, who has killed no less than nine dragons but was unable to unlock any of the six shouts she had acquired from Word Walls with the message "Dragon Souls Required". Just today I seem to have identified both the cause and solution in the PC Bugs forum but hardly anyone has even looked at the post :(

OP, I'd like to see you do better.

Plus, this is a new Engine for Bethesda, animations are not their strong-point.

Especially in a big handcrafted world such as Skyrim.

Sorry, but no. Hanging out, in the world, and (skill) leveling up, doesn't change the fact that dragons, while perched, have the same scripted death as a dragon in flight. (hence why the dragon takes to flight, clearly, after it should be dead)

@ the time of that vid, There was 218 hours logged in game time.
When you add the right buffs (I used The Thief Stone/The Lover Stone/other various ones when needed to level)...
There is no reason at all to abuse the mechanics. It's just not called for. Just a tip.

/edit
And yes @ Sokar, I've been gypped at least 10x where a (dead)dragon has not rendered it's soul to me.

Am I the only one that likes that death? It took him a while to realize he was dead, so it was cool.
