Odd settlement attacks

Post » Fri Jan 22, 2016 4:08 am

I have Hangman's Alley as one of my 'themed' settlements. I've only got 4 settlers there. Two are dressed up like Minutemen and armed with laser muskets. They both man two artillery cannons. The other two are dressed in full BoS combat armor and fully upgraded auto laser rifles. They both man a guard post I have on either end (I never unchained the door for the third entrance). In addition there are several turrets and such. Couple pumps for water but no food as this isn't a farming settlement obviously. They are fed through the supply caravans.

Anyway I go to visit, just to see how things are and a Deathclaw suddenly spawns right in the middle of the place. Before I could even figure out what was going on it's blown away. I loot the body and start to walk away and another Deathclaw just spawns right on top of that one. Again it's quickly killed but at least I got a shot off on this one (not that it was needed). Has anyone else had Deathclaws spawn right in the middle of this place? More than once?

The other place that seems to get attacked every time I visit is Red Rocket. It's my main base and where I store everything. Seems I can't even start using the workbenches before I hear the turrets go off. Usually it's mutants or raiders coming towards the place from the small hill out front. They are mowed down quickly. Once it was a Deathclaw spawned right next to the place. Killed quickly but not before taking out a small turret. Thing is this happens at least 70% of the time I visit the place, and it always seems to start as soon as I start working on one of the benches.

Note these are not attacks that are listed in the Pipboy ever, they just 'happen' to occur when I visit the place (usually QT). Anyone else seeing attacks like this all the time? Note High defense doesn't seem to stop it as both places were well fortified.

I always hope my settlement get attacked while I'm there, it's cool to see everybody in fight mode and how my defences actually work but it doesn't happen as often as I'd wish. My main settlement is at nordhagen though maybe that has something to do with it

I notice this really started happening when I hit level 30+, so character level may play a part in the chance of an attack.

Level prolly has most to do with it. I just hit 40 on 2nd char and only have handful of settlements, no faction affiliation and the waves of attacks on them just started.

this happened to me when I started to build up some settlements near the lighthouse. a few moments after arrival and I think it was a water pump made or something, then suddenly 2 albino deathclaws appear.

I've had deathclaws wander into settlements occasionally, but I haven't had anything quite like what you're describing.

I'd like to think that a deathclaw actually spawning within the settlement would be a bug. Especially because that would mean that Gunners and other attackers doing it would be a bug, and I could look forward to a day when I can fast travel to a defending settlement without worrying that, upon arrival, the gunners that spawned in the middle of the settlement will succeed in their attack by drawing all of my turrets to fire at my own assets.

I certainly reached a point where I realized that I was taking more damage from my own defenses than I was from the attackers, at least whenever they spawn in the middle of the settlement itself.

I had an deathclaw spawned on me just after arriving at the drive in cinema.

This is an random even not an settlement attack, pretty low level and I was talking to Cait, see deathclaw and reload.

Later an setlement had an random encounter with two glowing deathclaws.

One of the possibly 2 spawn points for hangmans alley is inside the workshop area near the chained door.

I happened to build a junk fence there and sometimes the spawned raiders get trapped in the fence.

It's a funny little spot at that end because if I put a guard post or trading stall too far towards that enrance no-one will actually man it.

Consequently i went high rise there and put the stalls up a level or two.

The bonus being i can gain access to the rooftops and take a shortcut to the noisy mutant neighbours who rough up the caravans.

Gunners did this to my settlement at Somerville Place.

A few legendary and some high ranking officers spawned in the crop fields by the house. The field is in range of 4 of my rocket turrets which opened up on them and ruined half the crops.

I didn't get a lot of attacks until I was above lvl 60. But now they come a lot more often and in large numbers.

Only attacks that annoy me are the synth attacks my character helps repel, only to find out shortly thereafter that the mission somehow failed, and half the stuff in the settlement has been mysteriously destroyed.

Yes I remember reaching the high 60's.

I returned from a trip to the glowing sea feeling all cocky, having whipped the enemies arses.

As i was walking home I went up to level 70 and the game decided to take revenge.

It gang tackled me with 5 assorted deathclaws.

When that finished I got a call out to defend a settlement and was introduced to a gang of Warlords for the first time.

It certainly prompted me to improve my settlement defences as the tough enemies started to attack.

Trouble is because i upgraded the defences I am no longer needed to fend off the foes.

The only workaround I know to enable you to succeed that mission is to use a console command on a PC to fix an apparent bug. Basically, you had a synth infiltrator disguised as one of your settlers. Look around, and you should see a dead settler somewhere in your settlement. The quest is supposed to succeed when you kill the infiltrator, but it doesn't (a bug). The workaround is that you have to use a console command to resurrect the dead settler/synth infiltrator and kill him or her again, then the quest will succeed. This has been confirmed by me and others (see posts http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1579478-synth-spies-in-settlements-is-this-a-thing/#entry24802382, http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1576764-failed-to-defend-settlements-where-synths-attack/#entry24767012 and http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1570752-defended-settlement-but-defense-quest-wasnt-completed/). This bug seems to, unfortunately, always occur whenever there is a synth infiltrator.

Nothing ever spawns IN Hangman's for me, but, I'm finding it odd that (and realize that I only keep companions there), everybody, apparently, has formed a neighborhood watch. Every time I return there, there's only one or two folks there (usually McReady and Deacon) and everybody else is out wandering the neighborhood killing things. Just yesterday, Cait, Strong and Hancock were out patrolling and absolutely slaughtering the heck out of Supermutants. I had probably 20 bodies to loot.

Never realized they were so dedicated!

Somerville Place was by far the most consistently problematic for me. There seem to be Gunner spawn points at several spots in the heart of the central construction area, and within the pre-made crops.

There are other settlements that had similar problems. I had ghouls spawn inside Hangman's, which did quite a number on some of the structures when my turrets targeted inward. Some of the farms would often suffer attacks with raiders spawning inside the walls.

But Somerville Place has a specific Gunner spawn problem, of that I'm very sure.

My most attacked settlement is Covenant. I'm up to level 70, and this has consistently been true. When I fast-travel there, I often see raiders shooting at the front door. Doesn't matter if my defense is low or high. Now I have missile turrets in front and it still happens. This is really ironic because Covenant is probably the only settlement that has pre-existing turrets and a pre-existing wall surrounding it, and they have never deterred the attacks.

I dragged the corpses of the initial raiders to one corner and fenced them in with a low fence. After , that is where they spawned. NPC's can't jump.. hehe Easy pickings.

Interesting. I actually build the floor of my main building over the bodies of the original raiders. I assume they are still under there. I haven't checked. There is that odd smell we get occasionally though.
