I've just reinstalled Oblivion and have and odd problem. All the audio appears to be working correctly, except for voices during converstations. This is with Oblivion + SI + all DLC patched to the latest version. This is occurring without any mods (other than official ones). This is the only problem I'v come accross so far, never got past emperor's dialog in your cell. This is on 32-bit Vista, actually this is the first time I've tried to play Oblivion since I upgraded my computer and OS. I know for a fact that it worked several years ago on XP. Finally, I am aware that Vista is not officially supported.

Update: I fixed the issue. Apparently, Oblivion does not like 5.1 audio on my configuration. Setting audio to stereo fixed the problem.

Did you try turning on 3D audio in the Oblivion.ini?

Hi, sorry for necromancing a 4 months old thread, but I had the same problem. I'm just posting a solution so others can figure it out faster.

I made a complete reinstall, same problem, I reinstalled again, deleted thousands of hours of mod installations, still same problem.

Solution was: My audio settings were set to "6 channel audio" while all I use are headphones. So basically it was trying to send the conversation to speakers that I don't have.
I should have checked here first =P
