Oddity with Briar Hearts and Jail

Post » Sat Dec 17, 2011 5:27 am

I just went to jail in Riften for two murders. I slept and was released, and was overencumbered. I had like 100 pounds of free space in my inventory, but I had 727/345 weight. I checked my inventory and I had 1025 Briar Hearts added to my inventory. Any reason why? Or is this a glitch?

Thanks!

Probably glitch/bug.

Gonna go ahead and guess that that was a random glitch, unless you happened to kill 1025 Forsworn Briar Hearts before going to jail.

Wow, never had that happen, sounds like a pretty insane glitch. Too bad they aren't more valuable, but at least they're useful in alchemy, if you can make it home or to a table...

^^^^^right I would slowly shuffle my way to the nearest alchemy shop and start selling the hell out of them. Or if you happen to have a house store them up for a last-chance source of income should you happen to need it in an emergency.

Oh dear, that hag raven in the cell next to you is gonna be mighty pissed when she's released!

Guard: "You are now free to go mrs Raven"

HR: "Where's *rasp* my *rasp* Briar hearts?"

Guard: "erm....erm....look if you're going to hurt me, just not the knee ok?"

+1000

Knee brace sales are going up in Skyrim. Maybe I should buy some with my briar hearts.

Hey, that's more Briar hearts than I wound up with upon release from jail! :swear:

But seriously, I just discovered this yesterday, and I just wound up laughing at it.

And I'm not really angry with you winding up with more Briar Hearts than me, btw.

That is ONE of the MANY file corruption issues which are causing random bugs in the game.

Something wrote to a "date-cell" which it should not have... or it wrote the wrong value. (Throwing an INT into a BYTE, or a LONG into an INT.)

The specific 1024 + 1 = 1025 was likely intended to go into something like your free-lock-pick +1, you should have had in jail, and the corruption was the number and the ITEM ID, shot into the wrong cell.

Expect to see more "bugs", "Corruption" like that in the next few hours of play, until nothing seems to function correctly. However, you could get lucky, and that might be the ONLY corruption you ever see, now, or in the future. It is a roll of the dice. You rolled a 1024 + 1.

Just be lucky you didn't have the briar heart quest... that would be 1024 hearts that you couldn't sell, drop, or turn-in... (1025 if they refuse to take the actual one from the quest too.)
