Oddly impossible quest - seige on the dragon cult

Post » Tue Sep 03, 2013 10:22 pm

This is the quest at "forelhost" or whatever.

Do I svck or is there some glitch going on or what?

I breeze through this game usually, have played a thousand characters, finished the MQ many times, finished dawnguard and dragonborn, never had any problems. Very very rarely die at all.

For the first time ever I stumbled onto this quest, my current character is level 11, I've died doing it many many times, the challenge was actually kind of cool for a while but it's starting to feel actually impossible. My save has little in the way of potions and food remaining, I keep dieing at this part where I have to fight about 6 higher leveled draugr at the same time (don't know what they're called but they can shout), it's crazily hard. Even turning on berserker rage after stealthily picking a couple off with archery and run tactics, charge in with my sword and shield and get annihilated. I've turned the difficulty all the way down and still I'm dieing. Is this at all normal?

Would appreciate honest helpful responses rather than just bragging that you completed it on legendary. Can anyone at least confirm that it is indeed relatively difficult and it's not just me?

Leave it and come back later when your character is at a higher level.

Well, the UESP does say that the minimum level is 24....so I agree with the above poster.

So I went back and tried again, refreshed my memory that it wasn't just the 6 draugr deathlords, they were also summoning frost atronachs (? never seen that before?) that inexplicably seemed to poison me as well (?wat?), and when I tried to flee from them I ran into this weird little alter that shot a blast of stuff at me that was literally a one hit kill with full health... despite all this, with perseverance and lots of saving and dieing I got through to the end (despite many more roomfulls of powerful foes) now my save is right before I face rahgot(sp?) a dragon priest, and his ridiculous army of weird things that seem to kill me with one fireball or similar, I have no food and no potions, fml.

Guess I can just run back through the crypts and burrows. Have never encountered anything like this in the game, it honestly feels like there's a glitch and my game is stuck on legendary despite saying it's novice. I've never stumbled onto a place where I wasn't at a high enough level, the closest would be going to solstheim but that was just like enemies seem a little bit harder than they should, still I never died, just didn't breeze through them as easily as I would have expected. This is totally different. It's truly, extraordinarily, "mike tyson's punchout" impossible. Many times through this quest I've been cramped in a room with about 8 or more powerful enemies strategically circling me and hitting me from every angle, and not just hitting me but like each single blow is depleting my health nearly completely.

You could just reload a save game before you went in, which would probably be better. It is a lot easier at a higher level, and you would probably have a better chance of better loot if you never went in there till later. If you insist on continuing, lower the difficulty level, you should also have the healing spell you could use.

Of course it feels like the game is stuck on Legendary. You're a Level 11 character trying to complete a dungeon designed for a Level 24 character. Of course it's going to be hard. Your best option is to just leave and come back later, when you've got a few more levels under your belt and have the gear to survive.

Also, one thing to keep in mind: the higher the elevation of the dungeon, the harder it's likely to be. The devs set things up so that stuff at a higher elevation is going to be tougher. Because Forelhost is at the top of a mountain, it's going to be harder.

I did this quest yesterday. I was level 54 and came out at 55. Expert difficulty.

It's one the harder dungeons. Also one of the longest. My various saves in there put the dungeon at over an hour long.

I did the quest at level 27 with my current character. Love that dungeon. I wish the Dragon Priests were a little more varied than just being mages though. Would be really cool to have a warrior or battlemage version of them, fighting you with unique weapons and powerful shouts(like a larger shout poll than the Deathlords).

That would have been pretty cool. I can't imagine going in there at level 27, it would seem painful.

At least the DP's on Solstheim were a step up than those on the mainland.

Not as bad as it sounds, since most of the enemies are Draugr Wight, with some stronger ones strewn about. I had a focused skill set though, so I might be more powerful than I'm expected to be at level 27, focusing mostly on heavy armor and two-handed with some smithing(no better than flawless and steel plate) and a little healing.
