An Ode to you, Elder Scrolls

I'm hesitant to call anything the best, but it's definitely close and one of my favorites.

There are many games I love, but the Elder Scrolls... It's just a whole new level of awesome.

I've got to hand it to Metal Gear Solid for the best series, but The Elder Scrolls is a close second. Then Bioshock after that.

Oh heck, they're all joint-first.

I'm sorry but I reserve place that for the Mass Effect series. Biowares craft has touched me emotionally and offered an exhilarating experince.

Elder Scrolls has a great world, great story, and I've spent a worrying amount of time in the Highlands of Chorrol, The Great Forest, Nibenbay, Rosethorn Hall, and poking my digital head into whatever godforsaken cave I come across.

but... I dunno- I enjoy it, definitly, but I don't have as much of an experience to remember.

I suppose Mass Effect was a thrilling one-nighter where I was miraculosly sober
and Elder Scrolls is more a long-term relationship
(god my girlfriend would kill me if I said that)

So no, but almost :P

I usually would have been like "No, u mad?", but with TESV's announcement, and replaying previous games, and seeing the dev's commitment for myself for the first time, I have to vote Yes. Not YES, but Yes.

YES! Without doubt TES is my favorite game series. Civilization is a distant second, nothing else even comes remotely close. Though I've heard a lot of people enjoy the Mass Effect series for some reason (I myself was turned off by the first game's utterly horrid level design (I notice that sort of thing), but I've been meaning to give that series another go).

YES! As a kid, I played a few RPGs, but none of them really felt complete, and then one day I learnt about the existence of Morrowind. It was the RPG for me, it had all I ever wanted in a game, a large open world, lots of varieties in equipment and other items, lots of quests, factions and more.

I was 10 then, and I'd spend some minutes sometimes looking at Tribunal/Bloodmoon (I couldn't find Morrowind) at a store until I finally got the GotY edition of Morrowind for my birthday. 6 years on and I'm still loving TES, although I've only played Morrowind and Oblivion. I'd gladly play Morrowind anytime if I could, but right now my laptop can't play it very well, so I have to make do with Oblivion on my Xbox 360. :brokencomputer:

I have never put more hours into a game series than TES, and I have never enjoyed a game more than an Elder Scrolls game. I am confident that Skyrim will continue this.

I don't really play video games any more; almost everything has become generic and derogative; everything that comes out is mainly linear, short, and story driven.
However, I have always been massively obsessed with the elder scrolls, since my very first days in morrowind. And that says it all - even though oblivion was more generic and actiony, and had much less replay value and a lack of decent story, it was still an elder scrolls game, and as such I took immense pleasure in it.
Elder scrolls is literally the only thing keeping me interested in gaming, and absolutely no other game company even comes close to producing rpgs of this magnitude. People around here should probably realise we are very lucky that there is a modern day game company that goes to great effort to put out games of this type. I could not even imagine another company being able to create something that bared any semblance to the greatness that these games emenate.

Right I'm done licking bethesda's [censored] for today I think

I started with TES with the Daggerfall demo on a PC Gamer demo disc. Never did get the full version, but the demo was still huge - and enough to cement TES as my favorite RPG series yet, and that only furthered with Morrowind and Oblivion. It's brought me the most enjoyment, the most excitement, and the most playtime of any game series. The only others that I can mention in the same breath are Super Mario's many iterations and Command and Conquer/Red Alert.

While TES did come first, the Mass Effect just slightly ranks above it for me. I guess it's good I can have both. :celebration:

Best series as of yet, has also provided me with the most gameplay time, exponentially more than other games, my second favorite series is Assassins Creed.

Me too next closest game probaly has two or three days less or even more(probaly more)

every one says mass effect is so good bu i dont think it the amount of very very good replay value of elder scrolls games do.i dont think it has very good replay value at all i just played through the main mission on both and didnt really feel like side missions were much fun at all. but thats my opinion

true I suppose althought Mass Effect is not entirely lacking-
Alll the class play differently, and all the guns (ME2 did very good guns) andled differently as well

But true there does tend to be just Paragon or Renegade and no compromise/ inbetween

On a goosebump-o-meter /Cheer scale ME wins though - it also manages to feel bigger as you do bigger things and make meaningful choices, in TES its a train track with sidings

The ULTIMA series of yore beat the pants off Elder Scrolls but as they say "They don't make them like that no more!"

Of course, this was a time when content was king.
