off center third person camera

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:23 am

i just noticed this, but judging by about three or four screenshots that i've seen, it looks like the third person camera will be slightly to the right of the character you are playing like in fallout.
do you want this?

personally i want third person to be handled in a way that makes playing in third person actually efficient (like a camera that you can rotate with the right thumbstick or mouse), but judging by the screenshots, i don't know...
if they aren't going to implement this differently, i think it should have the camera centered. in fallout when in third person i always felt that my peripherals were off like i was blind in my left eye.
but what do you guys think?

A 3rd person like you said would be nice.

I'm not sure how this works. When you zoom out, does the angle you are looking at the environment change? Do you walk in the direction of the camera angle or the character? Does the character physically move upon the floor? I just don't see how it can work, but I would love to be informed, because we're looking from an angle that is not straight on.

Noooooo! I despised Fallout's horrid 3rd person camera. Its practically the only game where I played mostly in 1st person by choice because 3rd person was so horrible. They should leave it centered, and maybe have the camera move to look over the shoulder a bit when you are using a bow or something, otherwise, centered! I don't really mind all that much whether it has a rotating camera or fixed to the characters back. So long as its centered... :verymad:

there is a reason why ME and GEARS use shoulder cam so successfully, if you are in the center instead it can sometimes conflict w/ your crosshair.

Both of which are gun games, and ME at least only changing from a centered view after you take out a weapon, not all the time. I'd like that system really, for bows and spells in the right hand and so on. When having melee weapons equipped in the main hand and the rest of the time outside of combat, it should be centered. :(

I know the whole 'toggable option' thing is a bit redundant on these forums, however if Beth have the 3rd person camera off to the side like in Fallout all the time, I better be able to disable it on consoles. Had to get a mod for it on the PC just so I could play how I wanted.

Also, what about picking up objects? The person stands 1-2 feet to the left and then the object dissapears from the center of the screen?

I don't play Fallout3, so I have a question. If the camera is off to the side, Fallout style, you can't rotate it with the mouse?

I think that they should do a third person like the one in Fable 3. It's a sword fighting game so I think that they should do a third person veiw that has been proven effective.

It pretty much operates exactly like oblivion's camera, only with with less propensity for oddity and being constantly angled to ones right. (except when in free-look of course)

Thanks, DarthRavanger. The wording of the questions made it sound to me like it was one or the other. I guess I'd vote for Fallout style then.

hey and maybe an idea for the third person with a rotatable camera would be if you draw your bow or have a spell it goes to an over the shoulder view automatically like in mass effect.

They ought to just let you zoom the camera in/out and revolve it around your character, like in Guild Wars.

I never like the style of how Fallout 3/New Vegas did in 3rd Person View though I expect the reason for that is for use of shooting thing; rotating the camera with this view is a bit awkward. Other than than, I usually stay in first-person view.

Ya, pretty much like that.

This screen it is off to the right.

This screen it is directly behind.

My guess is it's optional.

You realize that it's possible to free the camera from the PC, correct?

Not only that, but also a comparable panning distance to FO3 & Oblivion; I hated what they did with NV in this respect. The first mod I sought out was to correct that mistake.

My point is that they would, without a doubt, do such a thing so take pretty screenshots.

Good point, so there is no reason to believe that any of the screens indicate any particular set POV.

It looks as if the few screenshots i've seen are anything to go by that I'll have to be modding out that nuisance. I hated ots view i n Fallout 3 as well as New Vegas (what. an abomination) That had to have been one of the first mods put up on the Nexus.

Dead Space 2 OS type camera was pretty good, I would mind that in Tes5, but.... who cares about third person anyway....?
