Off The Beaten Path

Hi there,

I have setup a simple indoor space consisting of a square room with a hallway that runs along two sides of it. The room has a set of double doors separating it from the hallway. I have a guard that starts at one end of the hallway and is set to patrol to the opposite end and back again. I have set up a line of BLUE pathnodes that go the length of the hallway with x markers at both terminus pathnodes.

My soldier likes to leave the blue path to go through the double doors and into the room even though the nodes do not connect to the set of nodes in the room. How do I stop this from happening?

Thanks,
Cray

NPC's will take shortcuts when they can, regardless of the blue nodes. You may have to add another xmarker for the midpoint and change the patrol to a four-step one. That can get a bit complicated with the conditions for switching package at the mid-point.

Hmmm.... is there anyway I can force the double doors to a closed state? Whenever I enter the game to check out my work they are open, despite the fact that the Open By Default checkbox in the object reference is not checked. Would the door being closed keep the guard from entering the room?

Thanks,

No the guards would just open the doors (like I suspect they do now). Locking them might just leave the guard walking into the doors endlessly. You really need the extra waypoint if you want the guard to take the longer route.

If you don't want guards/npcs in that room at all, just eliminate all of the path nodes.....

Sadly, I have other PCs in the room and when I tried removing the nodes they stopped sitting in the chairs that I wanted them to sit in.

I'll try that extra node and see what happens. At this moment though the guard doesn't always enter the room so...
