No offense but....

Seems like everything that was in the teasers looked great but if you step out into the world the textures come straight out of Fallout 3. They get a bit better after the pop in though, lol.

Don't get me wrong i love the game and i just wanted a FO 3 with better animations and gunplay anyway but c'mon......this is just silly. Also i don't understand the i7 4790k and 3GB GPU. Those specs can run the game 4 times at once.

Maybe we're both playing different games, but nothing in your post makes any sense. The game I've been playing looks incredible with every setting maxed out and a smooth 60fps at 1080p!!!

Yeah i have everything maxed out as well. And the textures are godawfull. Maybe they tried to save money on new artwork.

I'm not sure if you're joking or being serious, but I have several hours worth of evidence that disagrees with you entirely. And everyone else I know who is playing this also thinks it looks awesome.

I suppose you can't please everyone... :ahhh:

it's true the textures aren't great. i figure that's for the console release. i'm half expecting they'll release a HD texture pack like they did with Skyrim.

Sorry, but I'm too busy enjoying the game to worry about your opinion. And yes, I still think it looks amazing! :D

The textures are fine as long as you are not obsessed about graphics being state of art. Beth already made it clear that they preferred spending that budget elsewhere on the game.

i think this game is ugly for a ps4 game, never cared that much about graphic but was hoping for it to run at 60 fps at least.

This is true. I think A LOT of the texures are straight up recycled from previous Fallout games. That doesn't make the game any less good but you shouldn't defend the graphics either. I enjoy the game so far...just wanted to point this out.

Edit: I think they also used some Fallout 3/NV ENB designs (streets for example) and the kneeling animation looks exactly like the one in a Fallout: NV animation mod.

This is true, modded Fallout New Vegas looks far superior than vanilla Fallout 4.

Who are you to tell anyone that they shouldn't defend the graphics? Trying to force your own opinion onto others won't get you very far in life!

I accept that you don't like the graphics yourself, but personally I think they're amazing. And I'm not just some naive fan-boy or a newb. I've been gaming for over 30 years, and I own close to 300 games between Steam and Origin. Some games I own have graphics that are below par, but this is most certainly not one of them.

That modded stuff looks better is clear. No need to talk about it. But do you want to wait another 7 years for the game? Btw. most of the meshes and textures that Obsidian made look simply awfull. NV looks decent in it's orginial form because of Bethesdas artwork that was reused. But not great.

My opinion about FO4: Texture & mesh quality is a mixed bag in this game. Some are really great, some are really bad. Most of it is fine.

Can I produce a screenshot that looks terrible: Yes.

Can I produce a screenshot that looks georgious: Yes too.

It looks a lot that the curse of "optimisation" has fallen on this game. To get steady fps with volumetric lighting and PBR cost it's price. For their first PBR game it's ok but could be better. It is a stepup from NV (I am talking about use of technology) but FO3 actually made better use of the technology they had available back then.

It's the Cool Nerd HCGamer syndrome ©, they can't consider themselves one of the "Cool nerds" unless they bash a Bethesda game, even after logging 400 hours playing it!

Don't let him fool ya,He loves it to death just like the rest of us, but all the cool nerds will laugh at him otherwise..

BTW I'm joking to lighten the mood here!...But there is a bit of truth there..;^)

every single game will look like this, if you search for the bad textures and stick your nose into them

and no... New Vegas modded looks far from what 4 looks like

the NMCs textures of F:NV are better of course, but the rest of the game, stuff like the meshes, the lighting, the details in the world, are far inferior to Fallout 4

it's not too hard making or finding ugly screens from a game...

Back at ya! :foodndrink:

But to the OT, I agree that Modded textures will always outclass the original, as a company that is trying to balance it's products across several wildly differing setups and platforms, there must be equilibrium towards the graphics, otherwise they will lose out on several different markets, whereas modders only have to provide for themselves and like-minded enthusiasts.

I would not be surprised at texture re-use. Think about it. "Hey Joe, we need all new textures for the exact same things we had in the last two games." *Joe applies a tweak in photoshop* "Here ya go Steve."

Seriously speaking, it makes no financial sense to create a brand new texture for the exact same thing.

It's true that every part of the game isn't polished to perfection but the landscape and lighting look amazing so it's easy for me to ignore mailboxes.

I think a lot of these complaints are a general dislike of the art style Bethesda chose for the game. Granted, there could be some better textures in places, but overall the graphics are fine. I see nothing that makes anything in this game comparable to the FO3 graphics (other than the general theme).

Then again, aesthetics in a game are purely subjective to each player, so while I don't think it's just you (OP) there is certainly a group that does not look at this game and think FO3.

None taken OP...since my opinion is in direct opposition. This game looks fantastic to me and captures the FO feel. Not that I really give a $#!+ about graphics, animations, or even dialogue. It's a FO game; it's resource focus should be on content and gameplay...and thankfully it is.

when you compare them side by side the graphics have actually dramaticly increased. http://i.imgur.com/VZIyWpn.jpg

The texture on that mailbox is very plastic looking. however its is leagues beyond what ps1 could ever dream to render. http://o.aolcdn.com/hss/storage/adam/bbe9e9f54bda8ab99b4052fc5dc5955e/Screen%20Shot%202014-02-24%20at%2011.14.10%20AM_168x168.png
