Official: Beyond Skyrim - TES VI #10

Post » Sat Jun 23, 2012 8:19 am

This thread is for ideas and suggestions for future Elder Scrolls games, and to keep all the discussion in one series of threads.

Now that Skyrim has been released the number of suggestions and ideas for the next ES game are starting to show up. We have a long way to go before we get another ES game and all topics like this will be closed and either transferred or referred to this one.

Please keep any discussion of Skyrim in the correct forums.

Strangle mechanic

Sneak up behind an enemy and don't hold any weapon ( or you could just press a special button ), this will make you character begin to choke the person you've choosen, you will need to hit a special button so that he/she can breathe for a certain period of time. This could either go under a new "Hand to hand" perk tree, or the sneak tree. This mechanic could make a more interesting intro to the new game, you could play as a character who is trying to escape prison, you could strangle a thalmor guard, take his keys and escape, or if you want to play a much more good character you could wait till you get executed ( which could make a whole new intro theme ).

Improved combat

A small idea i've taken from Arkane studios, for instance, if you cast ice on the ground and someone walks over it, they will fall, and if someone is small enough maybe you could pick them up and throw them ( could make for a great new sport, rabbit tossing xD ), also if some large creature comes, lets say an ogre, they can toss you several meters. Now, these where just some examples, there could be alot more things to do other than those. One other thing that Dark messiah m&m had was enemy weaknesses, for instance, if you hit a giant against the leg with a large battleaxe maybe you could cut of the leg.

Warfare

Another idea i got, you should inprove the warfare of the tes games, for instance many people wants to be a lone adventurer that takes on all the bad guys, but some really like the idea of being a general commanding troops and shooting with catapults, in skyrim even if you reached the highest rank in the army you couldn't do anything special. My idea is to include some new things like naval warfare, lets say you could buy boats and one day some pirates decides to attack you, you could fend off these pirates in alot of diffrent ways, you could have a crew and alot of other cool stuff. And if you're more of a landlubber you could use large catapults to attack forts and boats passing by, you could have a group of soldiers/assasins/adventures etc. with you.

Intro

Have an intro that doesn't put you in the main plot at once but it still epic, for instance, the intro can be about you running from something but you don't know what it is, ending up with you fainting, and if you decide to learn more about it you might have to ask around a little.

Things within the world

I want to be able to do many more things within the world, like if i shot on the water with a frost spell i want to be able to freeze that water, and i want to be able to climb in trees etc.

More weaponry

I want more weapons like spears, crossbows, lances, scythes etc.

I hope they can include sailing boats (rafts) in real time. Cyrodiil and Skyrim felt so weird with all that water nothing moving.

The magic guild (i.e. whichever faction is oriented towards magic, like the College of Winterhold in Skyrim) should have a questline that involves travelling to several small Outer Realms.

No more perk trees. They make some perks have prerequisites that make no sense just because they wanted the tree to look nice. If they bring back perks, they should do it Fallout-style, like a list, and have the prerequisites for perks be more logical.

What the next game needs is ....

(I know this is going to be a shock for those who have seen me around before)

SPEARS!

It is time for the most basic and most used melee weapon of all time to make a return to TES. It provides range and power at the cost of being heavy and slow (slower than other two-handers), and would ideally come in both one handed and two handed enviroments. And for those who say, "Oh, spears aren't efficient for one-on-one combat, they were used for mass armies,", see the Red Viper of Dorne and 300. And if you say, "Oh, but those aren't realistic, nobody would ever use spears in one-on-one combat in real life," well, I ask you, when has Beth ever really been realistic?

Elder Scrolls VI is going to come out at the perfect time. Around 2016-2017, a couple of years after next-gen begins.

Not too early, where the game suffers from the team learning new hardware.
Not too late, where the game suffers from being on outdated hardware.

This is what Skyrim's mountains should have looked like: http://gematsu.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/UE4_Debut_006.jpg

that really all i want to and also a lot more people walking around.i hate when i walk through a city and theres hardly any one walking around. i think the worst to do this was the IC. i mean for the captial city of the empire you would think it would be really crowded. i mean yeah i know they couldn't have put that many people on screen but still.

I actually prefer the mountains in Skyrim to that other picture.
