Post » Wed May 13, 2015 4:33 am

This thread is for ideas and suggestions for future Elder Scrolls games, and to keep all the discussion in one series of threads.

We also have an official thread specifically for http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1517357-tes-vi-location-and-setting-speculation-22/ suggestions for future games.
Now that Skyrim has been released the number of suggestions and ideas for the next ES game are starting to show up. We have a long way to go before we get another ES game and all topics like this will be closed and either transferred or referred to this one.

Please keep any discussion of Skyrim in the correct forums.

Mainly hands and DIFFERENT weapon movements. I was disappointed to see the number of different attacks reduced in every game since Daggerfall. Daggerfall had 4 attack types with different tradeoffs between hit chance and damage. Morrowind only had 3 different attacks with different minimum and maximum damage stats in each for every weapon, but they all shared the same attack odds, making it relatively pointless to use any except the "best" in all cases. Oblivion only had one "basic" attack, but added a power attack, and there were special attacks that you could get as Perks (sadly, those were AUTOMATIC, so you ended up with exactly the same perks at that level of skill for EVERY character).

If there's a "kick" attack, I'd want to see my foot, boot, or shoe appear briefly. That's about the extent of visible animations for 1st Person Perspective.

I really HATE being dragged into 3PP without warning in a game, and killcams are just one more of several reasons I never played Skyrim.

i think i already said this, but, i'm tired of a fat, sedentary and gorged "stamina" "attribute" being used for EVERY DANG game mechanic. the stamina attribute is already oversaturated and bloated as if it were an actual base attribute and it's high time for the re-introduction of more specific (and, customizable) and SEPARATE options.

for example: my running speed, sprinting speed and subsequent recovery have nothing to do with my recovery of, say, shield bashing or power swinging.

and, for dang sake- recovery from sprinting is and should be much faster. combat maneuvers is not nor should it be tied to regular ole running and sprinting. maybe, on the low difficulty levels all is fine and dandy, but, the mechanics are substantially faulty.

thus, re-introduce base attributes and develop a sophisticated, diverse and more customizable mechanic system that governs each particular area need.

or, at least, beth please don't eliminate anything else from the next game and, instead, attempt to fix, via complexity, depth and sophistication, any system you currently have in place.

I'll actually disagree with stamina drain governing too many things to be honest. If anything, I'd also put a drain on stamina if you also keep your Long/Short bow drawn as well. The one thing Skyrim does sorta well in this regard is actually forcing you to figure what action is best to take given your characters abilities. Do you take out that opponent with one final swing of the sword and hope the dragon ten feet away doesn't roast you alive, or do you sprint out of there not wanting to risk it at all?

I do agree in that Attributes do need to make a return, but I'd say it should be more dependent on skills then the attribute itself, necessarily. A high Athletics skill for example would allow you to sprint for much longer and decreases the overall drain, whereas a high Agility/Speed attribute would affect how quickly your character can hustle. Naturally it would be a good thing to have, but players wearing heavy armor wouldn't benefit from that kind of build as much, and probably should not focus on trying to out speed your opponents.

With all that said, , I do think you have a point in how it works in Skyrim, but I think that's due in part of the stamina drain on every single action is overly aggressive, as opposed to it being a bad mechanic all by itself.
