Official Fallout 4 Location Suggestions

The state of Massachusetts because this is where the mysterious Institute is located. Besides, the Commonwealth was the most frequently mentioned location in Fallout 3 which provides continuity.

London would be a good location IMO. There's been enough American Fallout games, it's time we saw what's going on in the rest of the world. If not London, then I'd say Moscow. It'd be cool to see a post-apocalyptic world from a communist perspective, plus it'd be a bit more recognisable than China for example.

I don't think that a Fallout title will ever take place outside of the USA because the propoganda 1950's theme is uniquely American. It just wouldnt have the same kind of effect elsewhere - though Europe would be okay maybe the ruins of London, the dried out river Thames with old buses, old boats laying waste in the river bed - the remains of Big Ben infested with snipers - the old London underground system still operating in places but other taken over by Ghouls. There are certainly some amazing land-marks around the world that Fallout could work with.

But I think the next title needs venture into the middle of the USA or mid east areas like Kansas and weather needs to be an issue too. To be honest I don't care where it is set - all I will need is loads more Fallout titles.

Pokoyo I agree- plus if they went for London there could also be a big American presence there as I am sure there are plenty of American military in London anyway so it would not look silly at all. I think there must always be an American presence in any Fallout title for the humour, propoganda theme etc

I don't really care about the location, but it'd be cool if it was about you growing up in the Brotherhood...

I think Britain is similar enough to America for it to work. And London is just as well known as any major American city too.l

But if you want to speculate, I'm fairly certain it will take place in Boston because that is almost definitely where The Institute is. Whether or not Cambridge is featured in it will be up to Bethesda, but they'll only choose one location to be the "major city" in the game.

Cambridge and Boston are only about three miles away from each other. When I think of the Institute, I think of the Massachusetts Institute of Techology in Cambridge.

Yeah, after I said that I looked it up and realized that MIT is in Cambridge, when I could have sworn it was in Boston. My bad...

Agreed, plus it would be nice to see how my country fared in the Great War, and see if the British Army had any special kind of armour!

I think it would be interesting to see what happened to the Chesapeake Bay and Annapolis. Of course, the naval academy would be a crater, and the crater would be a great place for a body pile. But just imagine raiding the Maryland State house, and making it into a player-home.

I think we should know a little more about Canada - because wasn't Canada taken over by the USA in the story? China is also such a key part of the whole story that China could even be on the radar at some point. Fallout games could turn into another Final Fantasy franchise and just keep going because the story so far has only touched upon areas of California, Mojave, Nevada and Washington - there are so many empty areas to fill we have a great future of Fallout titles ahead ! I just think we need a different engine this time though, better combat to allow us all to survive better in those desolate wastelands.

Well I'm more interested in the time period than in the location. Something before FO1 just after the bombs fell, a survivor who couldn't get into the vaults, something more http://www.game-over.net/retro/may/wasteland.html-ish. Location probably: America.

imo America has been pretty well covered, time for a new country I reckon. I think a Fallout in Britain could be awesome, the 1950's British sensibilities would fit right in with Fallout humour.

Ronto. Period.

Since Canada was annexed by the US it is possible there were vaults there. As hinted by the letters in mailboxes in FO3 (The ones saying you have not been accepted into the vault, but look to other locations such as newly annexed Canada. Given Toronto is major city there could have been atleast 1 vault.)

Although it might be blown up cuz of the deathray in Mothership Zeta. (Not sure. Is Algonquin National Park less than 500km from Toronto. Ive heard thats about how large the blast was.)

Ronto is also rumored that it had built a reputation of being a significant military force.

British fallout humor then. They'll need to find voice actors like: John Cleese, Rik Mayall, Adrian Edmondson, Simon Pegg, etc.

Amsterdam :intergalactic:

Unlikely, Bethesda couldn't handle the prostitution and drugs. It would be forbidden in most countries.

Well seeing how in fo nv I heard mention of chicago, I think the best idea would be chicago and detroit with canada thrown in.

Especially if they are thinking of adding a car. Detroit vs. Chicago in a possible midwest power struggle. Motor City makes total sense if vehicle is added. I94 runs from between the two with lots of interesting places along the way.

I always thought the commonwealth was in canada, or canada itself. Whenever I hear someone say up north, I always think canada...

But anyway, with chicago and detroit you also have lake michigan, the posibility of snow, canada(the commonwealth?), vehicle?, yada yada.

I just don't want the west coast, and I like the idea of a major city or cities and I like the idea of canada and snow...

evlbastrd I agree - snow based Fallout would be great although not all of it - just certain areas. I think the locations you suggested sound good. Canada definately needs to be included in this - I think a car is needed to it would make you feel better when travelling across those desolate erie wastes.

It would be great if Bethesda allowed their fans to vote for the location in an official poll - (okay dream over)

It isn't, it's Massachusetts. Bethesda said so themselves.

I believe we need a location which is varied in different cultures and climate, USA are getting a little bit boring y'know?
I have not checked the other locations so this is perhaps already mentioned...
My vote goes for somewhere in Switzerland, it has forests, mountain tops, meadows, fields and cities which gives alot of variety.
It's also multicultural, they're official languages are italian, french and german, it's in the middle of europe and in that case a lot op people would have to travel through it, which gives a little more variety.
Switzerland is also a incredibly rich country, which make Switzerland alot more like new vegas than D.C., because Switzerland probably have more fallout shelters than D.C. had, more people survive and more people come in, mutants, ghouls and others...

A settup for a story could be that the government want to stop the immigration, while red socialists is starting to build a revolution against the government to take over the country and let the immigrants come, you choose side.
We have never had the choice to pick a red choice before so that would be a new one.
Since Switzerland also have strong contacts with other countries, there will perhaps be familiar faces from the U.S., that might want to help the government, while the red socialists are getting unwanted aid by the chinese (because China were bombing the [censored] out of the rest of the world).
The thing why Switzerland would be a good choice is that it was neutral under the world wars, and so was Sweden, but Sweden is not as popular as Switzerland so we cancel that idea, that means that Switzerland was of course affected by the other countries, but it wasn't bombed which means that the inner part of Switzerland might not have been affected at all, and what survivor would not give everything to see lakes and trees?

You might nitpick on me for this, but if you got a better idea, reply to this then.

What about instead of 1 large map, 3 or 4 smaller ones with some way to transport between them. I've spent nearly 30 hours on new vegas and I'm not out of the central core of the map yet.

You play a character representing a rich European banking company, which has emerged since the bombs have dropped.

The locations could be:
London
New York
The Commonwealth

Possible Background:
England after the war would have been less effected by inter-clan rivalries because the English Channel would have prevented a number of waring factions from the European Continent. a couple of pre-war banking families who survived the war could have started a new banking dynasty that has emerged from the London rubbles. Initially making profits from funding slavery and searches for lost technology - even founding a Technology Market for lost tech. In it's search for new wealth they banking families expand accross the world (with the exception of the americas) creating banking cities (or colonies) which act as a hub for funding their lending and banking practices. London and it's associated "world-wide" banking empire is led by a puppet monarch (which could be a computerised version of King George 6th). Never directly engaging in war or other dubious activities the defence of the cities is done by mercenaries and any objective of the banking families is done by manipulating others via their secretive spys and/or by their funding of certain factions or groups or people within them.

Knowing that there is a large amount of technology, stories of a lost city of wealth (New York) and with the banking families looking to expand into the Americas they wish to fund a commonwealth invasion of New York, in exchange for Manhatten (so they can build a banking outpost there).

The player could then be something to do with one of the banking families, starting in London and then opening up to The Commonwealth and New York.

I, lukethehero, think that fallout 4 should take place in Detroit,Michigan. You make it sort of like D.C. and New Vegas put together, something like that. Then it is up to you if the Brotherhood of Steel are there or not, in my opinion, they should. The main enemy should either be an army from Canada trying to take control of the city and it's territory, or you should put the Enclave in it. I really hope you like my idea and take it into great consideration please! Thank you for your time.

I think that a two city idea would work well if a better game engine comes along...if that is the case then I think that the ruins of London could be used and then the ruins of Paris because both cities are linked by the euro tunnel and a train in real life is only 2 hours away from paris - going under the english channel. This euro tunnel could be controlled as a major gem of europe linking the UK to the mainland of europe. Or it could be entirely blocked off due to mainland europe and the UK at war over control of something important (I don't know what). Stealth would be required to pass through the tunnel. Maybe china is advancing on europe - there are so many ideas ! I just would love to see what bethesda could do with some other big cities worldwide, the eiffel tower or big ben still standing - it would be great.. what do you think?
