Official Fallout 4 Location Suggestions

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 12:49 pm

There have been a number of threads started to promote the idea of a particular location as a great setting for the next Fallout game. We have decided to keep the suggestions and discussion of different location ideas into one thread. Any new threads started about a location idea for Fallout will be locked or moved to this thread.

This thread should be used to discuss the different settings you think would work for a future Fallout game. Feel free to toss around the pros and cons (as you see them) for a new setting for a future Fallout game, but remember to keep any criticism or "cons" about a location within the rules for civil discussion.

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1103120-where-should-the-next-fallout-be/, if some of you want to continue any discussion from there

Okay, here it goes. Just a suggestion and I don't mind harsh critiques so let em rip..

Years prior to the war a handfull of people from all over the world that could not afford to live in vaults packed up and moved to the only place on earth they though would be safe from nuclear annihilation. Antarctica.

There they would build a civilization that flourishes for 87 years building a city of grand city of ice. Eventually the citizens of Antarctica start to trade seal and penguin pelts with Chile for wood, cloth and other items...

They live comfortably for roughly another 50 years until (insert x faction name here) arrives on the scene and tries to insert thier power over the people...

I could go on all night with this but don't want to bore anyone to death with detail :P

Now back to being FULLY on topic, being Australian I am 100% inclined to say GOOOOOO FALLOUT AUSTRALIA!!!!!!
But, that aside, I am incredibly interested in J.E. Sawyer's idea of a Fallout during the Resource wars and can see incredible potential within that chain of thought.
I also am extremely interested to the fate of Russia and to whether they stayed clear of the implied total nuclear Armageddon that occurred in the world.

And with my points made, I leave you with my regards.

I really want Fallout 4 to be the Commonwealth, which I'm assuming is New England.

Detroit, Michigan and the surrounding areas. It would be like a hybrid of The Pitt and the DC ruins.

It's actually Massachusetts. Still, I really like how the Commonwealth sounds and considering how much it was hyped up in Fallout 3, I would actually be really disappointed if Fallout 4 was set anywhere else.

Being from Michigan, I would totally dig that.

The Commonwealth would be my first choice as well.

I also think Florida would be great if they could fit in the Everglades along with an amusemant park and a space port. That would probably require multiple outdoor locations unless they wanted to move such things down to the Miami area.

It didn't feel hyped to me although I suppose it was mentioned, if only briefly, in three of the five DLC

I put forward an idea before that it should be in New York, a know its kinda typical, I personally wouldn't want to see it in Europe. Sydney is a pretty good suggestion and so is Antartica although really not much there though (Unless your gonna go for a secret Nazi Base being there), but New York is massive plus undergropund subway stations, the remains of central park, ocean liners and tanker wrecks etc giant buildings monumentally tall fantastic looking post apocalypic scenes plus the statue of liberty can be tied in with planet of the apes and escape from new york, the possibilities for exploration and fantastic looking destruction in my view would be paramount in both scale and explorable content. Its gotta be New York! but including the commonwealth with all its tech is a good idea.

Maybe "hyped" wasn't the right word. I just meant that it was the most mentioned area in the game. Every location we know of on the East Coast we learned about either via DLC that featured it or via a brief mention in a line or two of dialogue. But not only was the Commonwealth introduced with it's own quest, but, as you said, it was mentioned at least once in most of the DLCs, and Broken Steel went so far as to send Dr. Li there during it's main quest. Of all the locations we only know about because of dialogue, we know the most about the Commonwealth. The Pitt was the second most mentioned area but that got it's own DLC already. With the way Bethesda seemed to focus on the Commonwealth so much, I would be completely shocked if they chose another area to set Fallout 4 in.

I posted this before, but figured I should say it here; Central Texas.

Central Texas boasts the largest U.S. Army base with several cities around it. That being said, there is still plenty of areas that are open fields. The amount of cattle in the area would make for a great Brahmin (or another new cattle like animal) trade area.

Also, considering the fact that it is the largest military base, there could be a new faction Or perhaps the Enclave? They would fit right in at this area, considering their love of abandoned armed forces bases. Further more, considering the amount of hospitals in the area, there could be a big quest involving them. There are four, one on the base, one near the base, and two on the other side of town. Recently, the largest hospital took over the other two that are off base, but they still function as separates. Anyways, I felt it as a good idea because of the base itself.

The BoS (or again, a new faction) could use the hospitals as bases. I would also like to see a civil war between the smoothskins and the Ghouls. That would give the PC a great chance to choose sides. And maybe give the PC a way to become a Ghoul? That would be fun. My good character, Katrina, let the Ghouls into Tenpenny Tower and over all, never killed anyone other than a hostile feral. My evil character, Hoenheim, however is a Ghoul exterminator. I haven't gotten him to Underworld yet, as I just started him but when I do, I will clean the place out.

Sorry for the stray from the topic there. But anyways, what do you guys think?

There really isn't much in Antarctica, but giant mutant polar bear yetis would be awesome :D I could see maybe it springing up around a science research facility but after 25 years with no maintenance the place would collapse in on its self due to the pressure of the moving ice... plus for half the year the temperature on the surface is below -20C (not sure what that is in F, but it's well below freezing) and no human could last that long on the surface even with a thermo suit and a ton of layers on... Giant killer seals with massive teeth to would be awesome.

Any way my vote goes to Fallout Egypt, mostly coz I'd like to see how the pyramids look like now, and they could have society reverting back to ancient Egypt hierarchical system

The lead designer is from Massachusetts and if Emil remains lead designer for future games I imagine he'll push the Commonwealth as an option. If so I hope we eventually see a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nomans_Land_(Massachusetts) DLC.

There aren't any polar bears in Antarctica, although I agree that mutant leopard seals would be awesome :D

Personally, being from Belton, I think that would be really cool to explore where I've lived my entire life. They could include one of the lakes too as they're mainly owned by Ft. Hood.(well belton lake at least)

Commonwealth or Ronto, with options to travel to major FO3 settlements to see how they've grown in X number of years through DLC, utilizing a similar travel system to the originals. I'd love to see The Pitt again actually, it has the potential to become a large functioning city if the slaves do indeed become free.

I forgot about the lakes around here when I posted that, but thought of it later.

How about lake pirates? Of course, they'd have to be mutated somehow since the water would hold a lot radiation.

Feel free to toss around the pros and cons (as you see them) for a new setting for a future Fallout game, but remember to keep any criticism or "cons" about a location within the rules for civil discussion.

My first choice is Chicago, Illinois. Here are some reasons:
When thinking of a new location for Fallout, keep in mind the 1950's atmosphere of the game. Some of the locations suggested, although interesting, really had not as much going on in that time frame. Chicago was an amazing place from 1920s to 1950s: gangsters, bootlegging, prohibition, al capone, bank robbery, unlicensed boxing, burlesque houses, cafe racers, and so on. There's a lot of material to work with.

My second choice is Detroit, Michigan.
Not much to say about Detroit, save for its an amazing setting for a game like Fallout. Just look at these photos of Detroit http://www.steidlville.com/books/1050-The-Ruins-of-Detroit.html beautiful.

Third option is a little more out there.. Tokyo, Japan.
Think about it.. is there anything more Fallout than Japan? When I think of nuclear bombing first thing that comes to mind are Hiroshima & Nagasaki. It only makes sense to take it to Tokyo. You have your subways, you have your skyscraqers & you have your amazing cluttered neighborhoods, narrow streets, & shotty apartment complexes. Think of all the amazing Japanese Anime you've seen & bomb the hell out of it to get a feel for what I'm talking about.

And finally.. Los Angeles, California.
Because who doesn't want to see Hollywood bombed to hell. But then again, its too close to Vegas so I maybe not.
(I'm actually a little disappointed the new Fallout focused on Vegas instead of LA. I would have loved for it to be Fallout:LA with a little bit of Vegas incorporated in it, its not that far of a drive. There's so much to do in LA, whereas Vegas is only good for a 4 day visit)

I think Bethesda is unlikely to feature cities that were in the original games. (Chicago was also featured in Tactics.)
