Official: Future Fallout Locations Suggestion Topic. #4

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 11:58 am

There have been a number of threads started to promote the idea of a particular location as a great setting for the next Fallout game. We have decided to keep the suggestions and discussion of different location ideas into one thread. Any new threads started about a location idea for Fallout will be locked or moved to this thread.

This thread should be used to discuss the different settings you think would work for a future Fallout game. Feel free to toss around the pros and cons (as you see them) for a new setting for a future Fallout game, but remember to keep any criticism or "cons" about a location within the rules for civil discussion.

To elaborate on two points made above, "setting" can refer to a time and situation as much as a place. This thread should also be used for any such discussion for any potential Fallout titles, not just Fallout 4.

I know. A town... get this, a town. It is full of people who do... stuff? And they have these problems, and all.

Fallout 4
The Southern Capital

You are a vault dweller of vault 46 located in Atlanta Georgia. You are born into a time of war for Georgia as its largest faction The Red Arrow is planing on taking on the north after a group of BoS members where found. The BoS attacked the Red Arrows thinking they where monsters. This made the red arrow mad and ever sense have been planing on destroying what ever is up in the north. Your vault is cot in the middle as during one of there battles your vault was uncovered and was taken hostage by the BoS. You get lucky and escape in hopes of freeing your vault. You find out the Red Arrow is a large group of animal tamers that controls a total of 74% of the new southern states. There numbers have grown with the addition of a group of talking death claws. There numbers out rival the north 9 to 1 but there technology is low as there only weapons are automatic cross bows and the animals they tame. Whos side will you choose in hopes of freeing your vault or destroying it.

Fallout 4
The Frozen War

You are a marine protecting Alaska from the Chinese. After the Great war what was left of china was sent to Alaska in hopes of taking what metal and oil that was left to rebuild there home land but were greeted by an odd site. A USA army protecting the land. Alaska at the time was the only state not to get a vault so it suffered much. Like much of the world there was a large toxic rain that had infected the state but it wasn't the same. The cold had turned the rain to snow. It had the same effects but it hit harder and only lasted a simple 2 days. The clouds however staid as if frozen in place by the very snow it produced. The Chinese where scared of this fact when they where sailing here claiming that they looked like floating mountains. Most Alaskans died. all who were left were marines whos bases had bunkers. This battle has been going on for 177 years and still is strong. Will you keep the fight going or will you end it.
side note (most creatures here are smaller or fatter compared to there waste land counter parts)

Fallout 4
Island of fire

You are a child who was put into vault one build out of the Hawaiian Volcano. The lava was drained and used to help make small islands far from the main land in hopes of actually making a new country safe from the war. this plan failed as the war started before the island had cooled. back at Hawaii Vault one was finish being built and was free for all of the islanders. You are five and your family had the lucky fortune of getting in line next to your best friend. As you get closer to the door you start to hear buzzing and every one looks up. The nukes had arrived but the ships defending the island where able to fight off most. Seeing the bombs your family runs for the vault. The door starts shutting and you are lifted in the air. your dad throws you there the door with your best friend right before it closes. Only half the island made it in. Once in you are taken to a large cryostasis bed where you will sleep for 100 years. Once awake some people leave the vault. Many are dead. You meat you best friend and you both go out to see this new world. once grown you find your new homes government is corrupt and wants to turn all of Hawaii into slaves. You fight for your freedom finding monsters mutated by the toxic rain. (the only old fashion monsters are ghouls and Mirelurks. The rest are sea based creatures who evolved thanks to the toxic rain. ) You explore all the islands in homes of gaining followers to over throw this government. Will you take over and lead or will you just be as corrupt as the last leader.

Quote from the last topic:
I'd like a Fallout: Chicago, but only if it had gangsters and mobsters instead of tribals, the MWBoS at war with the Muntant Liberation Army outside of the city, and every resource needed by the gangsters is imported from various settlements outside of the city and if you kille everybody their the faction gets another vendor or finds another way to get food.

We've had gansters in Fallout 2 (the families in New Reno) and gangsters in Fallout: New Vegas (Omertas). We don't need a third game involving post-nuke gansters.
I'd rather if the game involved something different, and the "MWBoS and MLA"-war would sure take place outside the city of Chicago.. Infact, it would take place in several states west and southwest of Chicago.

Would it be possible on the next thread to include a generalized poll?

For example instead of specific cities or states just:

West coast
East coast
Midwest
South

Sometimes I get the feeling a region is almost more on peeps mind than a specific city, and for all we know some cities may have been pulverized into dust.

Let's hope it get implemented into this thread. For anybody that need to check up on the matter I'll include a map so you can link http://www.united-states-map.com/usa7241z.htm to http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/77/US_9_regions.svg and also a http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/af/Us_regdiv.svg. I think Canada or it's regions should also be added to the poll, seeing as it was annexed by the US. Still, I can see regions being too large, and divisions being better option. Maybe it can be set up as 2 polls, one with only regions and one with only divisions.

Ok here is what we've had
west coast (Fallout 1 and 2)
The Mid west (FO:NV)
the north (fallout tactics and fallout 3)
so whats missing

the 3 things that are missing are the South, Alaska, Hawaii. If we get these 3 things out then it will be ok for a fallout in a different country as far as im concerned. For the south please make it the southern capital. For one it would be nice to see the railroad state in a game and it be cool to see its airport. (im talking about Atlanta) and 2 it would just make sense. not a single fallout has said a word about the south and what better place to explain then its heart.
Alaska would be cool as its where a large amount of the military was during the great war.
Hawaii would be awesome because of its small size. we could actually include the entire state in it and even add boats.

The usual vote from me: Detroit-Windsor axle.

The Commonwealth as in the whole state of Massachusets - presented with a map node system - would be nice.

Other than those preferences... I'm fine with everything as long as it stays in the US and does not rehash already visited locations.

You're a little off on your regions. FO 1, 2, and NV are all west. FO tactics would be midwest. Fallout 3 is east.

I would much rather piece together story before moving to another area all together. Otherwise just gonna have a mess of a whacked out story that takes place in random areas with no tie in what so ever.

I would think, maybe one of the FO NV dlc will hit Arizona.

I pretty much had my fill of Alaska with operation anachorage. Whatever military was there, is long gone.

It is a careful balance that must be played between location and story. Want a good, fresh location, along with some kind of continuation of story. I can see them going South, but I think that may be better for FO 5. Which is why I think FO 4 is either going to be East or Midwest.

no fallout 3 is in the north east. no matter where you go in the south they will always cut the north east from the south east
but im tired of how every game based in America takes place in the north or west coast. The south deserves a turn and I agree for story sake would be better as 5 but fallout 3 had no placing of story in the fallout main series besides Harold. and hes turned into a tree. I want to say its posible to make a true fallout 4 or 5 but with out something to tie the story's together it wont be a true main story game.

also has any one noticed how they changed the title of this thread from Official Fallout 4 Location Suggestions to Future Fallout Locations Suggestion

I know its a guess but is it possible fallout 4's location has been chosen.

Those crazy southerners. Guess we need FO Fort Sumner then. Lol.

Good catch. But yeah, FO 3 did jump the story, which had to be done eventually, otherwise every game would be out west. But I don't think you want to jump the series again.

Hopefully Obsidian will remain in the mix so we could have something like FO 4 midwest, FO Texas, then FO 5 commonwealth and FO new york. Then FO 6 Enclave on Mars... lol

what if you and every vaultdweller of vault 40 or something come out of the vault and settle down somewhere out of the vault?
and then some strange things happen and you must go and see what's going on.

Originally I though you meant Fort Sumter, South Carolina. But then I realized Fort Sumner, New Mexico also exists. They could still be great locations though, maybe as dungeons/settlements.

The South IMO wouldn't be much of a jump (but it does depend on your definition of Southern States), Arkansas, Tennessee and Kentucky are well within reach of the MWBOS, and Virginia is just around the corner from DC (Fallout Manassas, yee-haw). It also comes down to map size of the next game.

Now, if people are considering New York City, what about renaming NYC to New New Amsterdam, and turn it into some kind of city state. It can rely on trade and absolutely everything (including people and their lives) can be traded within the city. The government is minimal, and only exists to protect the city and it's trade. I don't think it should take up much map space, about 1/8th max, and there shouldn't be any rubble blocking off parts of the city.

Parts of Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. This is pretty much the play area of Van Buren, yes, but it would be great, and some locations could be reused. It would pretty much all be former Legion territory (Legion would be crippled by the death of Caesar and the Legate). Legion would still exist, but there would be new tribes formed from isolated pockets of legionaries, and slave rebellions would take place. Loyal Legion outposts would be scattered across the land, but the roads would not be guaranteed the old amount of protection. The Legion would have only Flagstaff and the areas surrounding it as their assured territory. Legion would have an optional part in the main quest, that if you were to pursue, the ending slides would describe that their power would be almost restored.

This scenario would allow us to see some of the places we never got to in Van Buren (Denver, The Reservation, etc.), see the affects of New Vegas in other areas, and get a lot of Legion content that we never did in New Vegas (Legion would not be the majority, however). There are also opportunities for brand new tribes instead of relocated old ones, and a better balance between chaos and civilization while still going forward in the timeline like Bethesda commands.

I would only want this as an Obsidian developed game, though. Bethesda shouldn't do anything in these areas, it's just so close to the world Fallout 1/2/New Vegas covers.

Ok, IMHO, i would like to see something done in the following locations personally:

1.East coast( New England)
2.Great Lakes( Detroit, Chicago)
3. East Coast( Southeastern United States)
4. Midwest area around Illinois,Indiana, Iowa, Ohio, Missouri, Kansas, etc.
5. Alaska( i'm curious what happened there)
6. Hawaii, I have not forgotten you down there. :)

Where i would NOT like to see it:(in Monty Python style)

1. West Coast(California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington)
2. Legion Controled Area (Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, Colorado)
3. West Coast(California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington)
4. Idaho, Montana, Wyoming area
5. West Coast(California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington)
6. There is......no number 6
7. West Coast(California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington)

In short, leave the West Coast and DC alone, and i will be a happy Paladin.

I would say Texas, but I've seen enough desert in New Vegas to last the next 10 years. So I'll have to go with either Florida, New York or Washington (the state, not DC)

Reasons for Atlanta. its surrounded by a lot of forest. so no lack of tree. it has the worlds second largest airport meaning it controlles a lot of trade meaning a target. Also it has a huge amount of military. So huge reason

Reasons for Alaska. we could go back to the time of the great war. we could see how things went in Alaska first hand.

reasons for Hawaii. Iv always wanted a full state in a game. we could introduce drivable boats. interesting story line.

Taking place in New York, Fallout 4 features multiple factions battling over the five boroughs and surrounding areas; however, the two primary factions are the Capital Wasteland nation (i.e. the BoS after having merged or incorporated the settlements in and around CW) and the Commonwealth. Groups from previous Fallout games appear; for example, the Enclave has a small bunker (similar to the BoS's situation in NV) on Manhattan Island. The Enclave forces there wouldn't just be fan-service, but have a logical explanation; they're Enclave soldiers who left the Capital Wasteland after the BoS began a "purge" of the Enclave in the region - the small contingent is lead by Autumn, one of his successors, or one of his confidants (depending on the game's year). The Metropolitan Wasteland (NY) wouldn't have super mutants (hopefully), save for another cameo by Uncle Leo, who has slightly more importance, can be recruited as a companion, and has two or three quests. Another returning faction would be a group of Pitt Raiders, who have set up a fortified camp in New Jersey, just across from Staten Island; they, like the Enclave, would not be a major faction, but would have a number of quests associated with them. Appearing, too, would be the Talon Company, but in an expanded role - they're not just default bad guys. They are headquartered in the ruins of the stock exchange. The Stock Exchange is very much still an exchange; a "Contract Exchange"...the Stock Market is one of the more populous and well defended places in the otherwise ruinous Manhattan Island...people come from all around to both place bounties and claim them. While the Talon Company isn't the only mercenary/bounty hunter group in the Exchange, they control the Exchange and are the most prestigious of the groups; the Talon Company gets a portion of all bounties claimed.

taking place in Atlanta Georgia and surrounding area, Fallout 5 (i say 5 as this thread says future fallout locations and I think they are already making 4)
The Enclave and BoS have started a war over Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport in hopes of taking the planes and fling to take over another country. The enclave want to re group with there comrades over seas to re take America and put it back into there control (they would use a normal Vertibird but it doesn't have a high enough fuel complicity). The BoS want to find and discover other country's to use there technology against them and the enclave And create a new government for the new United states. The Airport is the last truly working air port after the great war. (Atlanta used all its power to create a shield to protect the airport so when the bombs had landed the people could be evacuated to a secret island built 60 miles off the coast of Antarctica. Sadly the shields went off after the bombs and the toxic rain killed off most of the people who were there. All of hume became ghouls making it the top ghoul home in the US. There are still 30 planes set and ready to fly the skys once again. This praised area has been the cause of many battles but now because of the Talons the Enclave have gotten a slight advantage. (the Talons are working for the Enclave because of money)

The newest faction to join the war is the Reapers. Joining to protect the ghouls and to keep the Enclave and Brother hood from aquiering the Air port. Because of the Reapers know how of ghouls they have been able to put all the airport defenses back online (except the shield) and have managed to talk the ghouls into taking arms to defend there home. the war has been going to the reapers so far but no all is surton in war.
