**Official List Of Unremovable Quest Items**

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 3:03 am

Kahvozein's Fang can also get stuck.

For weapons, if you equip them then activate a weapon rack, the weapon will be removed and put on the rack.
Disregard, previously said already.

and of course the fricking Elder Scroll
Sell it to the librarian in the Mage's College.

I'm post-patch 1.4 and still stuck with the pantea's lute, rjorn's drum, finn's lute, and the sapphire dragon claw. I do not want to simply remove the items via console because, at least with the claw, I'm collecting the things. I would like to store them in my "collection." I have completed all the quests related to these items before the release of the patch, so I get that even if some issues were patched, they may not be fixed in my game. But the creation kit has also been released, and I figured I'd be able to take care of it through that. However, I haven't been able to even find the 3 bard instruments in the CK - and re: the claw, unlike Oblivion's construction set, there is no box to check/uncheck to mark the item as quest/non-quest (rendering it droppable). Any way to make object removable from inventory?

Oh, yeah, Gallus' Encoded Journal, too - quest was done pre-patch, object is not removable from inventory, and I don't know how to use the CK to render the item droppable/non-quest.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

The book Souls, Black and White gets stuck if you pick it up before getting the quest from Urag at the College of Winterhold.

So I could not find a list someone already posted so I wanted to try to get one started. I know personally this list would have helped me to not pick up certain items before I began the quest, so now I am stuck with them and some won't even register as already found when I do find the pertaining quest. There are also some that have weight too. I will post the items and weight that are in my Misc. Inventory right now:

-Attunement Sphere - Weight: 0 - "Discerning The Transmundane Quest" completed.*
-Runed Lexicon - Weight: 0 - "Discerning The Transmundane Quest" completed.*
-Finn's Lute - Weight: 4 - Quest Unknown, Location Picked Up Unknown.
-Pantea's Flute - Weight: 2 - Quest Unknown, Location Picked Up Unknown.
-Statue of Dibella - Weight: 3 - Quest Unknown, Location Picked Up Unknown.**
-Wylandriah's Soul Gem - Weight: 0 - Quest: Fetch Quest For Court Mage In Riften Jarl's Keep, Location Picked Up Unknown.***
-Chimarvamidium Book - Weight: 1 - Quest Unknown, Location Picked Up Unknown.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*The 2 items from the Discerning The Transmundane Quest: I was able to store the "Essence Extractor" in my chest but these 2 items no. Quest is 100% complete. Are they used for some other quest I have not started?? I know there is the lexicon the Argonian crazy lady gives you in Riften and tells you to return somewhere for her, maybe these 2 are being confused for the same??
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
**The Statue of Dibella: I remember from another game the Thieves Guild has that first quest to intimidate people and 1 person your'e told will submit if you steal their precious Statue of Dibella. Could the game be thinking this is what this item is for even though I have nothing to do with the Thieves Guild? Also I have noticed there are "Dibella Statues" that can be picked up, dropped and sold and are identical to this statue so maybe this is a rare unique version and are limited quanity? Anyone know if there is a quest to collect these or something??
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
***Wylandriah's Soul Gem: I had already talked to the Court Mage in Riften keep and agreed to find the items she misplaced, was not actively working on it and picked up this soul gem I believe in the White Phial in Windhelm, did not get a pop-up message saying I had found it (matter of fact there is not even a misc. quest in my questbook for this collection quest for Wylandriah the Court Mage in Riften) and if I try to return it to her I don't get the option to. Granted I do not have the other 2 items she asked me to collect. Do I need to return all 3 items at once?

~Update: I have discovered I am able to FILL this soul gem (filled with "Common Soul"). Then was able to use it to Recharge my Wabbajack! and was lost forever, but removed from inventory though. Upon rollback, I was still unable to drop or store the item, but could however use it to recharge a weapon. I assume if I do that though then I will not be able to find it again and will not be able to ever finish that quest if somehow it decided to function proper. Am I correct in thinking this??
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry for the long post but I wanted to be as detailed as possible, to get all the information out there and correct. Please feel free to post any advice or thoughts you may have, or any fixes/reasons for any items I listed, not just the items you have found yourself that I have not alrady listed. B.t.w I left out the Elder Scroll since it is known that once that specific quest is completed the item can be sold to a specific NPC.

***PLEASE POST ANY MORE ITEMS I HAVE NOT LISTED OR FIXES FOR ITEMS LISTED THANKS YOU!***

The runed lexicon is only stuck in your inventory because you picked it back up after it had been removed from your inventory. You picked them back up after killing the guy you gave it to in the quest. You had no reason to pick it or the extractor back up. So that one is your own fault.

Wylandria's stuff won't be stuck in your inventory if you find all three things she asks you to find. If you talk to her, she tells you exactly where to find all three. If you have all three in your possesion, when you go back to her, the quest will complete and the stuff will be taken out of your inventory. Looks like you're missing the orcish ingot.

The statue is part of a Thieves Guild radient quest. Ask for more jobs from Delvin or Vex until you get the quest to steal the statue. I believe it's a pickpocket job.

The attunement sphere will stay in your inventory until you unlock all the entrances leading in to Blackreach. Once you open them all (I think there are like 5) you should be able to store it.

Not everything that doesn't seem to work right is a glitch.

I have wylandriah's soul gem, and it was accidentally filled with petty soul. Does anyone know if I can obtain the other 2 items for the quest, and still return them to her? I've talked to her several times and have not even gotten the quest after exhausting all options within the conversation. Thanks

I had the same issue with her. I found one item before meeting her and didn't realize it was a quest item until I tried dropping it.
Even though I never really got the quest from her, once I found all three items, she had the right dialogue to finish the quest and the items were removed. Go find the other items. She tells you were they are if you click on the dialogue thats asks what you were doing for her. They're easy to get.

Strange Amulet can get stuck too.
If you sell it to Calixto, it gets removed and replaced with the Necromancer's Amulet, which can be stored at will. This one is a failure of quest design; nothing that happens during the quest indicates that not selling it was a bad idea, until it's too late and you're stuck with the damn thing.

Glenmoril Witches Head can also get stuck.
These are used when curing yourself of Lycanthropy, and should get removed when doing so. As you can only get 'infected' once, picking up additional ones is probably what causes them to get stuck (note: I haven't tested this, so it could just be a bad flag).

Some other items:

The Attunement Spheres are used to open some of the entrances to Blackreach, however I've always had them stay stuck in my inventory despite repeatedly using them to open said entrances. The Lexicon is removed after you return to Septimus, but remains in his inventory after he dies; do NOT pick either it or the Extractor back up, or they will get stuck in your inventory as their flag is never removed.

The Dragon Claws involved in the Galdur Amulet quest should change to 'non-quest' status after completion of said quest; I've always been able to store them after it was completed.

Non-journal books stuck in your inventory are generally involved with the radiant quests from Urag gro-Shub in the College, and should get removed as they become a target and get turned in. This applies indirectly to the Elder Scroll as well; he never asks for it but will buy it from you anyway, at which point it gets removed. I have had a couple get stuck until a later collection cycle, though, so it appears the script has a conflict somewhere and doesn't always strip the book like it's meant to.

Bard quest instruments you'll just be stuck with; for some reason the scripts don't strip the items after you retrieve them, regardless of when you actually obtain them. NOTE: this is supposedly fixed in the 1.4 patch, but from what folks are saying here it would appear that getting them prematurely can result in them getting stuck anyway.

Apparently what I've read is that that if you already have these items in your inventory it's stuck there on the console games and the only way to get rid of them is to start a new game. Well I'm not starting a new game. I looked and it doesn't seem like there's an achievement for getting all the stones of Barenziah either, so I'll forget about that quest as well. I'm going to Windhelm and I'm going to unload everything I'm carrying and see exactly what I'm carrying weight wise for plot items.

It's not that I don't trust things. It's that I don't trust things.

Stones pay off is "Prowler's Profit" -- lots of nice gems in the urns. I don't even bother picking up ebony weapons anymore. The flawless diamonds and emeralds have super high gold:weight ratio. It took a coupl of hours to get them all but man it's worth it.

Big issue with briar hearts after the last patch.

I used a briar heart already in my inventory to complete Repairing the Phial. The quest completed, but now briar hearts are considered quest items and I can't drop or use them.

Here's what I got stuck:
and of course the fricking Elder Scroll

You can give the Elder Scroll to the orc at the College of Winterhold library. He pays you for it. Its probably why its still marked as a quest item, as handing it in is a quest of sorts.

All your Amulets of Talos are labled a quest item if you pick one up off the body of the guy who gets beheaded in Solitude. There is a quest from a little girl in Solitude to unstick them but it somewhat depends on the order in which you speak to her relatives.

I think it's one of the best quests in Skyrim.

Agreed.

Gallus' Encoded Journal is a real pain though. Haven't had problems with most aforementioned items though (e.g. Chimarvamidium and Essence Extractor). Also the Amulet of Talos and Limdrenn Temvanni's Journal (or something) are stuck in my inventory. The first is known, the latter can probably be removed but I have no idea to what quest it belongs.

the talos amulet issue happens when you loot roggvirs body before starting the quest to retrieve his amulet. this time i left the body alone until id spoken to that child and started the quest, and it isnt stuck in my inventory.
the strange amulet thing happens when you dont sell the amulet to calixto.

I did that quest once, but the amulet stayed in my invintory. Quest tag was removed so I could drop it. Decided to pickpicket it into the inventory of the woman that was supposed to take it.

Someone can check me on this, but I think the 1.4 patch fixed the issue with the Bard's College quest items. I was able to return two of them and they were removed from my inventory. The Attunement Sphere is iffy. One is understandably a quest object and is removed when you use it, but you can pick up a second one, which is the one that gets stuck in inventory. I'd have to do some serious Dwemer Ruin exploration to verify, but I'm reasonably sure that you can't get to the second one without using the first one.

I don't know if you'd call this relevant, but I've had the Ohgma Infinium sitting in my inventory for quite some time now and have been curious if you can store it permanantly on a bookshelf. I've already used it for all its worth (e.g. glitching) but never let it sit on the shelf for more than 2 seconds. Would it disappear if I left it on a shelf unattended?

it shouldnt do, but some of the shelves have been known to eat things. you can also sell it to the library at the CoW.

You actually can, if you go through Alftand (and at least one other Dwemer Ruin, although I forget which); getting in via Mzinchaleft and a couple of other locations does require the sphere, though.

Two of my characters have both spheres stuck in their inventories, however they both obtained them prior to 1.4 so may not be covered by any change thereto. I'll be going through at least two locations that need them on my current character, who's only a couple of RL days old, so I'll find out then.

I just completed the three Bard quests and the Drum, Flute and Lute were removed from my inventory when I returned to the quest givers. So that must have been fixed in the 1.4 patch.

Quest item weights don't effect you.

Sos you know.

No, but they add to encumberance, and when stacked can take away a good portion that could be used for some other misc stuff.

From what I've heard they don't add to your encumberance. Like Bjorn's Drum shows a weight of 4 in your inventory, but it really weighs 0 because its marked as a quest item. It would weigh 4 if it were not marked as a quest item, but the quest item flag on the item removes that weight.

Interesting, I hope that's really the case- I have quite a collection in my backpack. :P
