**Official List Of Unremovable Quest Items**

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 9:18 pm

So I could not find a list someone already posted so I wanted to try to get one started. I know personally this list would have helped me to not pick up certain items before I began the quest, so now I am stuck with them and some won't even register as already found when I do find the pertaining quest. There are also some that have weight too. I will post the items and weight that are in my Misc. Inventory right now:

-Attunement Sphere - Weight: 0 - "Discerning The Transmundane Quest" completed.*
-Runed Lexicon - Weight: 0 - "Discerning The Transmundane Quest" completed.*
-Finn's Lute - Weight: 4 - Quest Unknown, Location Picked Up Unknown.
-Pantea's Flute - Weight: 2 - Quest Unknown, Location Picked Up Unknown.
-Statue of Dibella - Weight: 3 - Quest Unknown, Location Picked Up Unknown.**
-Wylandriah's Soul Gem - Weight: 0 - Quest: Fetch Quest For Court Mage In Riften Jarl's Keep, Location Picked Up Unknown.***
-Chimarvamidium Book - Weight: 1 - Quest Unknown, Location Picked Up Unknown.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*The 2 items from the Discerning The Transmundane Quest: I was able to store the "Essence Extractor" in my chest but these 2 items no. Quest is 100% complete. Are they used for some other quest I have not started?? I know there is the lexicon the Argonian crazy lady gives you in Riften and tells you to return somewhere for her, maybe these 2 are being confused for the same??
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
**The Statue of Dibella: I remember from another game the Thieves Guild has that first quest to intimidate people and 1 person your'e told will submit if you steal their precious Statue of Dibella. Could the game be thinking this is what this item is for even though I have nothing to do with the Thieves Guild? Also I have noticed there are "Dibella Statues" that can be picked up, dropped and sold and are identical to this statue so maybe this is a rare unique version and are limited quanity? Anyone know if there is a quest to collect these or something??
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
***Wylandriah's Soul Gem: I had already talked to the Court Mage in Riften keep and agreed to find the items she misplaced, was not actively working on it and picked up this soul gem I believe in the White Phial in Windhelm, did not get a pop-up message saying I had found it (matter of fact there is not even a misc. quest in my questbook for this collection quest for Wylandriah the Court Mage in Riften) and if I try to return it to her I don't get the option to. Granted I do not have the other 2 items she asked me to collect. Do I need to return all 3 items at once?

~Update: I have discovered I am able to FILL this soul gem (filled with "Common Soul"). Then was able to use it to Recharge my Wabbajack! and was lost forever, but removed from inventory though. Upon rollback, I was still unable to drop or store the item, but could however use it to recharge a weapon. I assume if I do that though then I will not be able to find it again and will not be able to ever finish that quest if somehow it decided to function proper. Am I correct in thinking this??
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry for the long post but I wanted to be as detailed as possible, to get all the information out there and correct. Please feel free to post any advice or thoughts you may have, or any fixes/reasons for any items I listed, not just the items you have found yourself that I have not alrady listed. B.t.w I left out the Elder Scroll since it is known that once that specific quest is completed the item can be sold to a specific NPC.

***PLEASE POST ANY MORE ITEMS I HAVE NOT LISTED OR FIXES FOR ITEMS LISTED THANKS YOU!***

- Book of Elements...

I'm sure you will eventually get rid of them through quests, but this thread is needed for both ends of the spectrum. Helps with looting and/or planning.

Big plus for this thread. :foodndrink:

I will be sure to note all that I have when I get home from work. Damn 3rd shift...

-Ruby Dragonclaw: I think it was for Gauldur's amulet quest but now it won't go away. Note that the other claw involved in this quest (Gauldur's tomb has two puzzle doors) can be removed afterwards just fine.

The following items are encountered outside quests and won't go away till you do the quest in which they're involved:

Talos amulet: misc quest in Solitude. Can be found everywhere: in dungeons, on fallen enemies even in shops.
King Olaf's verse: bard quest item. Found in a tomb accessible outside the bard college quest
Kahvozein's Fang: found as random loot in nordic burials: it's an item needed during an optional quest handed out by the mage Toldfir.

I'm sure there are more. At a certain point I had the inventory cluttered with several quests items and no useful clue about what to do with them. It's annoying as hell. While I understand this is done to prevent people 'loosing' quest items, this stuff should not be accessible outside quests (ie disabled) least ending up in the players' inventory leaving them wondering what to do with these.

I've been able to get rid of some of these items no problems. Had to use console commands for some.

In a couple of cases, the bug isn't that you can't drop them. IT's that they aren't automatically removed when you hand the quest to the NPC that wants them (The Bards College Quest for example)

The Ruby claw, I'm sure I dropped, but it may be one of those situations where the Quest item tag isn't removed when it should be.

In both my playthorughs it remained in my inventory. I have used the player.removeitem command to get rid of it.

Yes I forgot to mention that atleast the weights don't actually count, which is strange that they even list them but anywho, I am just getting annoyed with having to see these damn things in my inventory when I don't want them.

@msxyz : Good call on the Amulet of Talos, I picked up 4 of those things before realizing I could not get rid of them, and this was after the quest to bring it to Toryyg's Final Resting Place for the Jarl in Solitude and I STILL can't get rid of them.

I was able to get rid of 1 of 2 copies of the Chimarvamidium by paying off a bounty and 1 copy was stolen so the guard took it so now I am back to 1 copy.

I have yet to come across that Book of Elements and now I will know not to touch it thanks to yall! So thank you, it's good to know this thread is doing it's job and to see a good receiving of it as well!

Hopefully there will be fixes in future patches for these issues, as I am a console player (PS3 and we have enough problems to worry about with this game as it is lol) I am not able to use the "in game console" to permanently delete items, which is too bad because I would gladly have done it multiple times already! Thanks for the input so far, lets keep it going!

-Finn's Lute - Weight: 4 - Quest Unknown, Location Picked Up Unknown.
-Pantea's Flute - Weight: 2 - Quest Unknown, Location Picked Up Unknown.
-Statue of Dibella - Weight: 3 - Quest Unknown, Location Picked Up Unknown.**

The first two are Bard's College quest items. Go there after becoming a bard and question the appropriate people. The statue of Dibella is for Lisbet in Markarth. The items may remain in inventory, however if you use the player.removeitem command with the code for a generic flute, lute or statue of Dibella, they will be removed, even though they still are shown as named quest items.

Gallus' Encoded Journal from the Thieves' Guild quest line is stuck in my inventory as a quest item. The Essence Extractor, on the other hand, was removed when I handed the blood samples to Septimus.

I stole something shiny from Toldfirs bedroom and I cant get rid of it. I'd go talk to him but my word he's just too annoying.
Also some shard of an amulet. It's not pretty and the effects arent great. It is getting on my nerves.

Various gold and jeweled dragon claws. I'd get rid of them but I dont know if they may actually be essential to getting into some tombs ?

tried to clean up my mess in dibella's temple after drinking with sam, picked up a giant's toe. Now the game considers all my giant's toes quest items, so I can no longer use them to make expensive potions -__-

the talos amulet issue happens when you loot roggvirs body before starting the quest to retrieve his amulet. this time i left the body alone until id spoken to that child and started the quest, and it isnt stuck in my inventory.
the strange amulet thing happens when you dont sell the amulet to calixto.

On the PC:

Just about any item you pick up for a quest you haven't been assigned not only won't be acknowledged by the quest-giver, but it will stack with any similar items (like a particular, but not unique book for the librarian at Winterhold) and cannot be removed from inventory. There is no warning that any of these things are quest items until you try to drop or sell them.

The Grand Staff of Charming for Onmund's Quest not only won't be recognized by Enthir if you get it before he asks you to, but on the PC you sometimes get two of them one in a chest and one propped up next to the chest, depending on what site it sends you to to get it.

The Stones of Barenziah--all 24 of the damn things--are not only stuck in your inventory once you pick one up, but weigh half-a-pound each and don't stack properly, in spite of their being quest items.

All of Arondil's journals stay in your inventory after the quest. You can't drop them but you can sell them to the TG fence.

Gallus' Encoded Journal from the Thieves' Guild quest line is stuck in my inventory as a quest item. The Essence Extractor, on the other hand, was removed when I handed the blood samples to Septimus.

You get the Essence Extractor back somehow after the quest is over (I think Septimus leaves an ash pile and you can loot it off of him). However, I was able to put it in a container. It wasn't stuck...

Gallus' Encoded Journal, however, is. I want to be able to put that on a bookshelf.

The ones I have:

Gallus's Encoded Journal - Thieves Guild questline completed.
Attunement Sphere (2) - Main Quest, Crimson Nirnroot and Hermaeus Mora questlines completed.
Finn's Lute - All Bard College quests completed.
Pantea's Flute - All Bard College quests competed.
Rjorn's Drum - All Bard College quests completed.
Runed Lexicon - Main Quest, Crimson Nirnroot and Hermaeus Mora questlines completed.

I know they don't weigh anything, but they're cluttering up my inventory - plus I'd want to adorn my house(s) with these special items...

It has always been able to be removed once the entire quest has finished for me.

I have wylandriah's soul gem, and it was accidentally filled with petty soul. Does anyone know if I can obtain the other 2 items for the quest, and still return them to her? I've talked to her several times and have not even gotten the quest after exhausting all options within the conversation. Thanks :)

UESP says:
  • If you pick up one of the items before engaging in the quest Wylandriah may not give this favor. Find all three should trigger an update and allow them to be turned in though.

First, to find the spoon head to Ivarstead. Go into Fellstar Farm and sitting on the table is Wylandriah's Satchel and inside is the spoon. Next, head to Windhelm and head west in the city. Enter The White Phial and right behind the staircase are two barrels. On top of the closest one to the door is Wylandiah's Satchel with the soul gem inside. After that head to Winterhold and go into The Frozen Hearth, which is to your right as you enter the city. Inside head towards the bar but as you pass the fire pit turn right and the satchel will be on the bookshelf with the Elves Ear plants. Finally, head back to Wylandriah. She will give player a fair amount of random scrolls for their reward, but have no recollection of actually setting them on the task.
