That's ... weird

If you're armed with an offensive ability, it is strange that your defense is compromised? That isn't weird. It sounds pretty logical actually.

Flawed mechanic is flawed.

You can raise a weapon with the hand holding it too block. You don't need to use two hands to block.

Just role-play it to yourself that you can't concentrate on both casting a magic spell and attacking and blocking. Blocking with a sword still baffles me, seeing as in RL you parry, but I guess they don't have that in the game.

Sword plunging and gurgling blood?

Hope it's optional

Other than that...the game definitly seems to be taking on more or a Sims feel

you have to press down on both trigger buttons on a controller to block if you don't have a shield, heard that in a podcast or read it in a article

I was quoting from the magazine that was Todd's own words.

Quite possible he does not go into details, perhaps controls can be different on PS3 and not set yet.

not blocking while having a spell in one hand sounds silly, I don′t know about you, but if a roaring warrior comes into melee range I wanna put my blade between me and him, I′m all for gameplay balance, but not when they force your character to be stupid, come one Beth, there must be another way.

Nice find on the info!

I like the whole magnetism thing, so long as it is not extreme. If it is subtle, it will be a great idea!

-They describe a finishing move they perform on a bandit - they 'plunge the sword into his chest' and the bandit can be heard gurgling his blood as he dies.

Also the description of the one finisher is GREAT!

It's weird having a weapon and not being able to block with it. It's also weird that they give us the second hand for magic and then expect us to switch out in order to function in melee battle. It may as well not have the dual weild element and instead have Daggerfall and Morrowind's system, cause in essence, they worked the same. I won't say any more because I'll wait to see. Maybe the combat system will make sense as a whole. But on the face of it, it does sound weird.

you dont get much more offensive than when you're weilding a 2 handed great axe. yet you can block with that.

"Markarth Side is entirely within a stone wall with no buildings whatsoever poking out of the surface."

No buildings poking out? within a stone wall? What?

Perhaps the playstyle switch will be similar to how you switched in Heavenly Sword? I thought that system was pretty seamless and quick.

I really like this thing with dragons making random attacks. Deos this mean that some people will die also? It would be cool if different people dies during your playthroughs so you'll have a better reason to replay the game. it also makes the world more living and fatal!

"however if you have a one handed weapon in one hand and a spell in the other, you won't be able to block - left trigger will then be a spell and right will be attack"

What if you have the spell in the right hand and weapon in the left? Does weapon always have to be in right hand since right trigger is attack and left trigger is spell?

if this "magnetism" is anything like FO's auto-aim it will be one of the first things modded out. I dont need help pointing my bow or sword in the right direction and having to be careful about not hitting allies is just another gameplay element for me. Unless its due to stupid AI like in NV where Boone, sniper that he supposedly is, runs into a narrow corridor full of my mines and where im lobbing grenades and spraying bullets. In which case the solution really is better AI and not targeting help.

though i suppose its understandable for consoles who dont have the precision of a mouse... :D :bolt:

Depending on how it works, if its simply that your sword will not hit the friend on your right side who are just inside the hit area if you also hit a enemy right in front of you it's perfectly ok, far to many allies run into the path of my sword anyway.

Would you rather keep hitting it forever and ever until it jumps up from the ground and sags down like a puppet with its strings cut? Trolls in Oblivion looked very comical (and stupid) when they died.

I'm guessing you would also gurgle blood if someone ran you through with a sword ;)

"Markarth Side is entirely within a stone wall with no buildings whatsoever poking out of the surface."

No buildings poking out? within a stone wall? What?

Whoops, misread it - here's what it actually says:

"Every big settlement is unique. The city of Markarth Side, for example, is set into dramatic stone cliffs, with buildings teetering on the end of sheer drops"
Apologies for that, I was reading through it as quick as I could to get it on here and must have missed the bit on the end about the sheer drops D
