Official reason for smaller texture size in Crysis 2 (PC)

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 12:28 pm

This SCREENSHOT which I took straight off of Facebook should answer those PC gamers' question as to why Texture.Pak is smaller in Crysis 2 than it was for Crysis 1.

Side note: They didn't even spell the user's name correctly in their response.

For those too lazy to click:

Russell Zen: "Studio looks nice. Crysis 2 does not. Why are Crysis 2 textures smaller than Crysis 1's?"
Crytek: "@Russel: For optimisation :)"

Edit: I just pulled the picture out of his message using the quote feature to see everything it contained. I do not vouch for or particularly care about the contents of that picture.

They wanted optimization for consoles, BUT!....I think they wanted it for PC too. People biched how they couldn't run Crysis 1 before so Crysis 2 was optimized. Now people bich that it's too easy to run. I can see why Cevat Yerli gets pissed sometimes.... >_> It's a lose-lose situation for him when it comes to whether to optimize or groundbreak.

Again, having a graphics option screen with as many options as the prior games would allow those people who cant run it well to lower the settings on textures, objects, etc. But still have hi-res textures for those who CAN run it maxed out. Not to just cut them out all together.

I mean its supposed to be a Crysis game FFS!!!!!

Yeah, I'm sure Crytek's social media people worked on the game too. Some intern probably posted that response. I don't understand why all of you trolls are still here if you hate the game so much. GTFO and move on already.

getting 100+ fps in crysis 2 at maxed out settings is not due to optimization... its due to lower quality visuals, smaller game areas, and no destruction.

you arnt 'optimizing' by reducing texture quality. You arnt optimizing the characteristic, you are changing it completely. Just because the change makes it run better doesnt make it optimizing. Optimizing is getting the same result with less resources required. not getting a lesser result with less resources required.

**** crytek for not making this game utilize current hardware to its fullest.
