Official TES MultiplayerCo-op Thread

i think they should have a co-op not full out multiplayer, i would like to play with friends not fight everybody, if it was full out multiplayer it would be like world of warcraft, i think co-op is a beter idea

or they could make it as an add on type thing and the people that want it could download it and the others could if they wanted too or leave it be... i say that the ones that dont want it dont have to get it, but they shouldnt make a difference on the ones that do, they wouldnt have to buy the disk or download the content if they didnt want co-op

It's not that simple. The very way the game is built doesn't allow for that. You can't just add co-op to a game; they'd have to redesign and who knows if the engine is even capable.

First there are technical problems of creating such game - let's see how Mass Effect 3 does game with hard focus on character-based plot, and adding multiplayer to it - will it be a tacky deathmatch like Uncharted 2 and Bioshock 2 had?
Creating not only technology, but also content for two players is a great production risk, and we already know that TES games tends to have corners cut to release the game - because they are ever evolving (just cause modders add stuff doesn't mean the original programmers don't do nothing). Just by adding one player the world should be scaled and new content made so it wouldn't feel like a gimmick that the modders are working right now - not to mention if the number of players would rise.

A solution on CO-OP would be creating in game place for players to meet in between games - like the current mods try to do all over the game world. It would be closed city arena (you'd be logging in to rooms when entering) where players wouldn't be able to save the game (to prevent saving when players kill each other) and since it's not diablo they wouldn't be able to drop items. It could add player vs player content - like an actual arena. Players would have to relay on hotkeys, and using potions and changing weapon would always happen in real time. The winner could gain some fame, gold or even the loser's weapon.
Next game wouldn't need to take place in Imperial City to create such arena - it could be "traveling" arena kind a place or imperials would be starting the arena in all over timriel - nice set up for yet further game and call back to the first TES.

i think thatthey should make arenas for PvP that you start out differently, sorta like the beginning, and regular co-op for the main part, i think if they added this to it, it would be like 5 times greater than just single player..

so after my fith playthrough of skyrim I got to thinking wow this would make an awesome mmo. you would have all the main places and factions and the setting just after the events of skyrim would fit perfectly as it was the last prophicy of the elder scrolls. if they would make it I hope they make it a xbox exclusive mmo. the netwark can handle it and the xbox allows for the hardware to drive it. you could have the same freedom you have in all the TES games and chose from the same races but use the skyrim level systeam and combat in place of the standard mmo systeam. player houseing could be done everquest style and have the same buyable house be a portal to your personal space. so the player house in riften would be the same door but the inside would be your space. enamy respawn would have to take palce but not a hard fit into the game. neither would player death. player death would be a knock out or something and you fast travel to a healers hut near by. pvp would also be fun as players could join factions like the dark brother hood or the empire and fight it out. there could even be a war between the empire and the dominion. crafting would be as it is in skyrim but able to be a merchent and sell your smithed iteams or self made potions. make it freetoplay with pay for expantions and ingame iteams. by not making you some prophicy hero but jsut another person in the world it allows for more freedom.

It would be interesting seeing a multiplayer mode in Skyrim (or other TES chapters in the future). While I personally prefer Single Player, I have to say that the opening post is not precisely encouraging for those who want it. If TES MP is not feasible at all, then what's the point of this thread?

Like I said in my previous post I'd go with PvP arena. Arena where two or more characters log in and without saving or pausing the game at that point with set hotkeys they battle to the death - taking items like in Oblivion is a hard thing since someone could just reload the previous save, and some items are quest given :/
However if Acrobatics with climbing and water combat were to show up, than online dungeon would be have to have more depth to them than the ones seen in Oblivion too - which would require more development and more than one would be required to allow all types of character to have chances - stealth attacks in the arena.
Even so this idea is the easiest to make.

what about an online battle arena where you can fight other players and there would be like arena armor and it would be the best armor in the game and there would be like a leader board kinda like online fps

Multiplayer Skyrim will never ever ever ever happen. Period. Period again.

The Skyrim Online mod will never evolve into anything bigger than a Corridor 7-esque multiplayer mode. If you don't know what I mean by that, get the game, try it with a friend, and you'll know what I mean.

Despite all that, no one can definitely say whether or not any future TES games will have multiplayer.

Another problem with even trying to make arena style PvP is that even if players were given arena armors and weapons, the game isn't balanced so one mage player has the same chance against rouge or warrior player - it's only balanced to the point to not ruin the fun for one player killing enemies in dungeons and on the country side. Not to mention the difference in difficulty setting.

Honestly, (and I mean that in the best sense) I can't say that such a point is anything but a bit superfluous. It is to be assumed that if Bethesda made a multiplayer TES game, they would take the time to balance it properly for multiplayer, however that ought to be done.

Of course, balancing the game by Bethesda would be one of the easiest thing to do, but I'm just saying that in official co-op/multiplayer threat instead writting this in similar mod threat. I'm assuming that with the pace that mods and ideas for them are coming along we will see an attempt on at least PvP (the best way is to do it in specially designated area) - unless the proclamation of modders won't fallow through.

How would they balance it though?

Sure if it's multiplayer in a multiplayer only game then no problem.
But if it's multiplayer incorporated in to a singleplayer game how would they balance it without ruining the experience in singleplayer?

Ah, I see. Good point.

But as I mentioned earlier, such multiplayer mods will never ever develop into anything truly remarkable, so it's highly unlikely we'll get to this point anyway.

How would they balance it though?
In Skyrim? They couldn't, not without breaking the balance of the singleplayer portion. But that's just one of literally hundreds of reasons why multiplayer Skyrim will never happen. Any kind of discussion on these lines is therefore completely pointless speculation and conjecture.

One game I'd love to see is Capture the Flag.

The amount of players per team would depend on the size of the CTF map. You could bring your single player character into battle.
So if you are a complete boss in your personal Skyrim, you will be a boss onllne (except when confronted with other strong characters). Shouts could be limited, or maybe turned off. The game host could choose the amount of weapons you are allowed to carry.

There could be small maps (use a small part of the plains near Whiterun) or there could be massive games from, say, Mzinchaleft to Mistwatch. It would be epic.

What will you do to capture the flag? Will your team be strategic? Will the Gods of the warhammer guard the sacred flag while a slew of archers guard covertly from the forest while the stealthy mages and dark brotherhood assassins sneak their way onto enemy grounds and steal the flag without the other team realizing what happened? Or will you go running in like warriors with your swords raised high? It's up to you in Skyrim's online Capture the Flag.

-snip-

Not to rain on your parade but multiplayer won't happen in Skyrim.

And I'm not so sure your idea is the best. Nothing wrong with CTF but I shouldn't have to rush through my singleplayer experience just to be competitive in multiplayer. I'm also fairly certain that the 360 and PS3 are to weak to handle hosting a game. So Bethesda would have to handle the servers. And where should that money come from?

I second that, and in fact I think I will quote my first post here once again to emphasize this point to whomever pops in here next:

It won't happen and if in some alternate universe it did I can see it being a case of constantly bumping into people with exploit-levelled characters and uber weaponry.

In short, a complete shambles.

Simple answer---NO, not ever. It really is nice to have a good SP game to play---there are lots of MP games out there. Leave the series as it is SP only.

Guild Wars II will be out soon enough and you will be able to get all the Fantasy MP play that you desire!

so i see there is people talking about the pausing in multiplayer....well couldnt this be a fix by just adding a text pad or an extention for the controller.....so maybe then u could use it for shortcuts....its not like i asking for the world to play skyrim online...but maybe just a match making of a couple of friends would be nice

What if bethesda done something along the line of red dead redemption where you work together to clear dungeon and can work for the law by killing people with bountys then multiplayer could be optional so all the unsociable people can be unsociable and all multiplayer gamers will be satisfied as well

I would love to be able to co-op in The Elder Scrolls. It would be so much fun to be able to play WITH someone rather than forcing them to watch.
