Just saw a teaser trailer for Call of Duty Black Ops. Obviously, a much different game. But 4 years is too long long a development cycle for any game series as profitable as TES.
The thing is, Morrowind was so amazing, I played it up until the final 3 months of Oblivion's release, at which point the graphics and gameplay were dated, the quests were all familiar, the thought of playing the new game ruined enjoying the old, and I just busied myself in other ways. Now, I'm playing it again waiting for TES V, because I lost interest in Oblivion in literally 1/10 of the time.
I would accept a game like Oblivion if a new "episode" were released every two years, with a moderately updated graphics, tweaked gameplay, and a few new story lines/quests.
Oblivion had a million minor flaws. Some of them were reactions to critique aimed at Morrowind, so I can't blame the developers...unless they fail to see the reactions are akin to Coke Classic and New Coke. So many people champion the graphics and physics as astounding improvements...but those are not innovations, simply the progression of technology.
The only things somewhat improved was the combat gameplay, the stealth gameplay, and in some cases the mixture of those with magick, (firing a spell while holding a sword) There was more voiced dialogue. BUT we lost total amount of dialogue, number of factions, number of dungeons, number of skills, number of weapons, number of armors, number of spells, and had enemies level with us, making level advancement moot or in fact, detrimental. We got to ride horses...but couldn't fight from them. We got to buy houses. Some of the "improvements" were so simple, and often easily added by modders that Bethesda cannot laud themselves, but must consider them a necessary inclusion.
