Official TES V Speculation Thread Number 29

Post » Mon Aug 09, 2010 9:49 am

Remember the papers about the games that will be shown at E3? On one of those papers it said that Ubisoft would show a new Assassins creed game: Assassins Creed: Brotherhood.

Link: http://www.gamereactor.eu/news/3618/E3+lists+make+for+great+rumours!/

I'm not the only one who thaught it was fake but then I saw this at Kotaku:
http://kotaku.com/5531849/gamestop-placeholder-art-names-assassins-creed-brotherhood-+-update

If the information of E3 came before the validation of Assassins Creed: Brotherhood, then what do these papers mean?

Well what once looked to me to be an OBVIOUS fake is slightly less obvious... and if those papers are to be believed, I am about to experience a gamer's nirvana. I thought that the rumors regarding the next Assassin's Creed game being called Brotherhood had circulated for several weeks, and those papers came out after the rumor mill was churning, so the slightly part is still really, really slight (about as slight as my soothsayer predictions of 6/2 announcement coming true). But we shall see!

They're fake. There are no two ways about.

It lists Mass Effect 3 as a Playstation 3 exclusive. I could see ME3 going multiplatform, but EA wouldn't trade one console for another.

Anyway, a 2010 release is totally impossible, seriously, Bethesda just does not do that. I'm completely confident that it won't come out until late 2011 at the earliest, but most likely 2012. But that's only if it's announced in the summer. Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3 were all released more than a year after they were announced, and I'm certain TES V wont be any different.

Thats sounds reasonable. I would be very surprised if there was a 2010 release (especially considering they haven't even announced it).

But I don't think its completely impossible. After all it was a goal, at some point (thank you Paul Oughton [I think thats how you spell his last name...]).

Additionally, Bethesda has expanded quite a bit.

So I think we should settle for highly unlikely and not jump to 'totally impossible' quite yet. Chances are, when they announce it though, they will place the target mid-late 2011 (thats at least what I think).

Sorry about the three posts in a row, this is my last one, I promise.

The http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/05/07/june-issue-revealed.aspx issue of Game Informer has been revealed, and it's Gears of War 3, not TES V like we hoped.

So now there's only two covers left before the trademark expires, the July edition, which will be revealed in early June, and the August edition, which will be revealed in early July. This cover not being TES V certainly makes a later announcement and them showing it at QuakeCon seem more plausible.

Well I guess that means another month of waiting...

But your right, QuakeCon now seems more likely. I kind of like it that way. I want TESV to dominate the gaming headlines, instead of just being yet another game annouced at or around E3.

But on the other hand, I want it to be announced sooner rather than later. I also want it to be released sooner rather than later. Perhaps this is why I hold onto the quote from Paul Oughton (again, have no clue about the name) about a TESV in 2010.

Because I want my TESV now! :brokencomputer:

Announcing TES V at QuakeCon makes sense, and is also awesome. Essentially, Bethesda has their own trade show now because of QuakeCon (since Zenimax owns Id). This means they could use it to announce games and do others things (TES forum gathering! :P ).

Ah damn, now we have to wait until August? I'm sick of waiting, us forum-goers should pool money to hire a private detective to investigate Bethesda and gather info on TESV.

Yeah, but at least they're finally teasing about some sort of an announcement.

Not necessarily, they technically could still announce it with the July edition and then show it a few days later at E3, but I don't think that's very likely.

Me neither. It's just not leaning that way.

And so long as they give us no information, it really isn't leaning the other way either :) I feel bipolar with my pessimistic (realistic) side leaning with you on this one, and the eager "kid on Christmas eve" optimist still hoping for an earlier announcement.

A QuakeCon announcement (or a showoff, if QuakeCon is too late for the trademark) seems most likely.

I mean it is technically Zenimax's event since they now own id Software. And Zenimax owns Bethesda (which you all should already know).

Maybe announcement in August Gameinformer and a showing off at QuakeCon?

I have one more trick up my sleeve to tell if bethesda is going to announce TES V early. I'd tell you all, but they frequent this thread, so i'm gonna keep my lips sealed. I just want to tell you that the second Bethesda springs the trap. I'll be here. :P

I'm skeptical about Quake Con, as that would sap attention from whatever iD has up their sleeve. They're both under the same roof now, but they still want to spread the hype around, and Quake Con is still primarily an event for iD fans.

Moreover, I just don't see Beth making any announcements until after New Vegas releases. The last thing they want is people seeing a tantalizing glimpse of TESV, then looking at NV and saying "I'll just wait for TESV". It makes more business sense for them to wait.

Well Pete Hines said that Bethesda is going to start utilizing QuakeCon now that Zenimax owns Id, so unless Hines was blatantly lying I'm pretty sure Bethesda wants to change QuakeCon into an event for both Id fans and Bethesda fans.

Not really. Despite all the times Fallout 3 has been called "Oblivion with guns," TES and Fallout are two very different series with two different fanbases, most of which wont not get another Fallout game just because a new TES game is coming out.

hmmm...is it "literacy"? I've got that trick up my sleeve too... and as soon as they spring the trap by posting it on their website... I'll know!! Then I'll share it here too and perhaps we could discuss what we read... I hope I didn't reveal our secret to Bethesda...

Id has RAGE. Its a known quantity, it is the game they've been working on, and it won't be out until 2011. They are also going to show something from Doom 4, because they didn't last time, unless it is lost in develoment hell.

So I'm sure they will show off plenty of RAGE at Quakecon, but as far as new bombshells, I would be surprised it the Id side had much. So the deck might be clear for other major announcments from the Zenimax family.

I could see TESV being talked about at Quakecon, even if they have something from Doom 4 as they target different demographics, and still, two big announcments at your own established show beats being a footnote at E3.

"Both Todd and I have said repeatedly that, of course, we’re going to do another Elder Scrolls game. The last one was enormously popular. So was the one before that. You get the idea. So do we."

'we're going to do another...' We = Pete and Todd or We = Zenimax?

"To be clear, Todd and his team do not make MMOs, for any franchise, at all."

Fine, so that can be interpreted as what it says. Still not convinced ''we're going to do another...' doesn't mean Zenimax and TES isn't going to be MapleStory set in Tamriel.

Of course "we" refers back to "Pete and Todd." The only way it could possibly refer back to Zenimax is if Zenimax was stated somewhere earlier in the statement. Your alternative interpretation is only possible if we change english grammar. :P

I think they keep it quiet just to annoy us. Mostly because we can't tell them what's good or not about their work this way.

The people who had concerns about the quest compass in Oblivion before it came out turned out to be right. If they release some info to us when it's too late to change anything, then they're just making another Oblivion.

There are already a lot of people planning to buy New Vegas (myself included), and an Elder Scrolls announcement wouldn't stop them. Especially since they'd have to wait probably a year and a half to two years for ESV. However, we'll see...

Keep in mind Quakecon is after the Skyrim trademark expires. So I expect some sort of announcement maybe just before the trademark expires in July, then show ESV in the GameInformer a week or so later.
