Anybody played Red Dead yet? I'm maybe 20 mins in and already impressed. The graphics aren't mind blowing, but the animations are amazing and the worldspace is jaw dropping. Riding off into the sunset never looked so real. The light, the shadow, nothing 'pops' into view, even though your horse is galloping twice as fast as any Oblivion horse, not to mention they move much more realistically. You practically feel them tugging at the reins when you turn your horse.

So many animals, coyotes, rabbits, buffalo...all beautifully animated, you shoot them and they crumple, no funny rolling and exploding.

When a guy is shot out of his saddle, the angle of the shot, the position of his horse, the way his arms are moving are all so fluid, it looks like a movie.

The scenery is literally epic, vast deserts, towering mesas...I haven't even seen the mountain forests and other areas.

Uhh, hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this is a speculation thread about when TESV will be released. I have checked out the game though, and WHOA, you are totally right. AWESOME... gives me hope about TESV being released on this generation of consoles (bringing it back on topic... oh yeah)

As for E3, despite the list of companies that will be there, I recall seeing something on Mektek.net forums that showed that there are http://www.mapyourshow.com/shows/index.cfm?Show_ID=E310 In addition, there is, of course, the Bethesda Softworks booth. Now, some people claim it is for their published games, but what about the last few years? Did Bethesda Softworks show TES 4, or was it the studio? Also, what if Bethesda Softworks was publishing TES V themselves?

I apologize for not clarifying. I find the suggestion thread redundant as it is obvious Bethesda must be in the testing stages, or at least a development stage too late to add anything that hasn't made it off the drawing board already. And if not, well. Enter pessimism.

I was simply using Red Dead Redemption to speculate what could be possible when TES is released. Aside from choosing what skills you use, the game plays very much like an RPG.

If the makers of Morrowind and Daggerfall are not able to match the RPG elements presented by the makers of Grand Theft Auto (aka kill hokers for money) I further speculate that they may not maintain their well earned position as the best in the business.

This is an interesting question. We would assume that with Bethesda looking to become a publishing giant, they would certainly be publishing their own triple A games such as TES:V. But with so many games on their publishing list right now (New Vegas, Brink, Rage, Hunted)... that's a lot of money, and TES:V would demand a massive marketing campaign on top. For example, Modern Warfare 2 is thought to have cost around $50 million to produce and a further $200 million to launch (http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/modern-warfare-2-the-most-successful-entertainment-launch-of-all-time-1951301.html, 2010). I'm not sure how much of those 'launch' costs are fronted solely by the publisher, but it's got to be a huge portion.

So perhaps the current list of games being published by Bethesda (particularly New Vegas, the biggest hitter) are intended to generate a huge sum of cash for a very impressive TES:V launch. If that's the case, then mid 2011 would be a likely time for this campaign to begin, no? After all the other games listed above have gone on sale and (fingers crossed) sold well. An announcement this summer to hold onto the trademark, and a launch campaign beginning next summer for a fall release.

2011?? Are you crazy... just need to know... KIDDING! We know so little The campaign needs to begin sooner than that because purchasing incentive is a late-blooming psychosis. You need to use the least amount of dollars first... that meaning a simple thing like an announcement on a website... it takes nothing to do that, and you start that 8 months before a release now (FYI the idea of an Alan Wake years-out release are gone).

That suggestion thread has been around for years. No reason to stop it now. Its main purpose won't exactly wear out, they'll just slap the name of the expansion wishes on it once TES V does come out, and it will be more popular than ever because everyone will be complaining about TES V and saying what they should do to improve the next one.

The jury is still out on this one, but in my mind this does seem highly plausible. Edit: Or not - granted the list of games is quite the stretch. Judging by the failed negotioations about Goldeneye "arcade" last year, it's unlikely that Nintendo would agree to a one sided release - meaning it would be in the Nintendo line up as well.
