Official TES V Speculation Thread Number 34

Post » Wed Dec 01, 2010 12:28 am

There is NO OFFICIAL information about a new TES game release.

This thread is for member speculation of when and if TES V will be released. This is where you post any new information about when it might be released, tidbits from interviews which mention it and such.

It is also where you post your theories of when you think it might come out based on guesses, number crunching, rumors or such.

This is about speculating on the next TES game and when -- or if -- it is going to be released. It is not a place for discussion of what is going to be in it, what type of graphics there will be, or any other subject of that type; they belong in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1090035-tes-v-ideas-and-suggestions-164/. If those kind of posts get raised they will be deleted and the poster warned for going off topic.

Please note that this thread is not a personal chat box and that one liners and posts of little substance will be considered as spam and thus the poster will be subject to warnings and suspensions.

No scans of copy righted material are allowed in this thread. All other forum rules apply. You agreed to them, so please read them.

I will start off the thread by saying that we now know that a statement of use just has to be an announcement, not a sale.

I am beginning to think that Microsoft will announce TESV at their conference which is the day BEFORE E3 starts, thus Pete isn't a liar at all...

So, I wonder, when people bash Bethesda for publishing those crappy titles, do they mean to bash Bethesda Softworks or BGS?

Obviously the ones to bash are Bethesda Softworks, but it seems like not too many people even know they are two different companies(or whatever they count as).

Yeah, it bothers me.

Just like how it bothers me when people don't realize the distinction between Bethesda Game Studios and Zenimax Online and assume ESV will be an MMO.

Yep, it makes me mad as well. And the fact that SO many people aren't aware of the distinction just makes me more mad.

I am beginning to think that Microsoft will announce TESV at their conference which is the day BEFORE E3 starts, thus Pete isn't a liar at all...

Well, it is technically still Microsoft's E3 conference, it's just not during E3.

They would never let Microsoft announce THEIR game... Unless Pete just wanted to show that he's not a liar... But what's the point in that? No one will care if he's a liar as long as it's announced. Well, some people might, but why would a big company like Bethesda care at all? Damn my contradiction!

What do you mean? It'll still be their announcement. They even revealed Oblivion's trailer during Microsoft's press conference, as it was originally supposed to only be on the PC and Xbox 360. But Microsoft has revealed multiplatform games before, so they may still announce TES V there.

http://www.destructoid.com/bethesda-not-bringing-an-unannounced-game-to-e3-175357.phtml does make it clear that they wont be showing anything they will be showing at E3 that they haven't announced yet. Maybe they'll announce it before E3 via Game Informer and show it off at Quakecon like I've been thinking.

Does anyone know when Famitsu actually put that info out? They have a TON of news that they release everyday and it is 6/4 there, but I read through their website back through the beginning of 6/1 and didn't see it anywhere...

There's a nice chance ESV will be announced at E3. I believe this "secret" is legitimate. As long as it's not Zenimax Online's MMO, which I'm still a bit afraid it might be, then it should be ESV. Unless Bethesda Softworks disappoints us with ANOTHER out-of-house game they're publishing...

And if ESV isn't at E3, it'll probably be announced before the end of July then.

"When the magazine asked if each publisher will have a surprise for E3, Capcom, Electronic Arts, Koei Tecmo, Konami, Sega and Square Enix all said yes while Bandai Namco and Bethesda chose to keep their plans secret."

http://www.examiner.com/x-6894-Video-Game-News-Examiner~y2010m6d2-Famitsu-polls-publishers-about-their-E3-plans

Though I could not locate this on Famitsu's website, it might have simply only appeared in the printed edition... it reads a bit less likely that they said they had a "secret" rather than that whether they had a surprise or not, they would rather not share...

Everywhere on the internet that games are discussed, it seems nobody knows that BGS, BS, and ZOS are three discreet entities. Face palms from the number of people who think FO:NV is a BGS product, that games like Wet and Rogue Warrior should reflect poorly on the TES devs, or that Howard's team is working on an MMO have left an indentation in my forehead.

As for announcements, I'm no longer expecting to hear anything soon. It is disapointing. But if they're saying nothing new at E3 (and not lying), and Quakecon is going to be Rage and Doom 4, and FO:NV still needs to release (I tend to think they don't want to steal its thunder before it ships with new announcments), and the whole trademark lead doesn't seem to be going anywhere...

I would be satisfied for now if Howard or Hines would just confirm that work is underway on TESV, and refuse to elaborate any further until later.

Quitter... just kidding!

To your first statement, it amazes me too! It is crazy, I was reading this seemingly well informed post about FONV and then they went and stated, "Hopefully Todd's team has learned from their buggy code for this next Fallout game..." I wanted to pretend I never read the previous paragraphs...

My Penance:
So for those who care about such things, I spoke with a quite bland gentleman after navigating through an auto-attendant, and asked the following:

"Can a company satisfy the requirement to file for a statement of use without actually selling a product?" I referenced the Skyrim trademarks specifically so that the answer would be clear.

His answer:
"All you need to do is prove that you have advertised the product in more than one state to prove a statement of use."

Me:
"So if they announced the game and said it would be for sale in all 50 states, this would satisfy the requirement?"

Bland man:
"Absolutely. We don't ask for sales receipts."

That is all.

Dude...you are my hero! Your penance is now paid in full. :foodndrink:

I bet you five septims they'll announce it at PAX.

Just my hunch ... :)

Ouch. Yeah.

I've just been asked the rationale for my hunch, and it's pretty simple: there's approx 5 years between each game, so if the next one comes out in October 2011 (five years from Oblivion - the Fall release for the holiday season), then they'd have to announce it approx a year before release, and PAX is in September.

Fuzzy bunneh logic.

That is sound logic. And convenient logic, considering I am a resident of the Pacific Northwest. I would wet my pants if I went to PAX and Bethesda announced TESV there! :celebration:

Forget about QuakeCon. That's for FPSs. PAX is the best place for Bethesda to announce TESV! :D

Thats wonderful news!

Although it still remains strange that we can't find a game that has not been released before its statement of use was filed.

But hey, the trademark guy is proof enough to believe that Bethesda has to announce TESV before the trademark expires.

This is just referencing the same Famitsu article that all the other news links are using. As far as I can tell it's based purely on speculation and not substantial enough to warrant much hype.

Yeah, the "making of" DVD that came with Oblivion's collector's edition shows them preparing the trailer and the demo for E3.

Well I can't say where you can watch it besides getting the DVD because that would be encouraging piracy (I think?) but I think you can figure out where you can watch it.

Bethesda is listed as "secret" under surprises for E3, meaning they have a secret surprise.

Would listing themselves under surprises as "Surprise" be the same thing? I'm pretty sure a surprise is supposed to be secret by default. :)
