Official TES V Speculation Thread

Post » Sat Apr 24, 2010 5:06 am

I always thought Skyrim was a pretty cool name, it's certainly not lame. Better than Elswyer which I'm fairly certain I just spelled wrong, like I always do.

Antibody, they named Morrowind Morrowind, but the game's setting was only part of Morrowind, and not even on the mainland. Mournhold wasn't in the original game. How can someone name the game Morrowind and not have Mournhold(or the mainland) in it? What will Bethesda name the game that takes place on the mainland?

The Elder Scrolls IX: Mainland :P

In all seriousness, I'm sure they'll just name it after a city on the mainland like they did with Daggerfall.

How about The Elder Scrolls IX: Mournhold? However, we've already seen Mournhold.

I'm pretty sure they intended to do the whole of Morrowind, but cut it down to Vvardenfell.

They originally intended for TES III to be called Tribunal and take place in the Summerset Isles. I wonder why they change their minds so much.

In response to one of Antibody's posts in another thread concerning Bethesda announcing a game without a trademark:

Well, Bethesda might be planning on something we don't expect. Perhaps they will trademark another name(a more vague name) soon and not announce TES V until late this year or early next year. Then, they might release TES V only 1 year after they announce it(against past traditions, but hype could actually be more built-up sooner to an announcement date, considering Bethesda would release information in a shorter amount of time than they have done with previous games). I doubt this, but I am hoping for it anyway.

Speaking of more vague names, why didn't Bethesda trademark a more vague name than Skyrim(to keep us guessing about TES V's setting), such as Tribunal or Oblivion?

Maybe they want to keep the hype down for a reason. The last thing they want is for the game to be over-hyped and a massive dissapoinment. It would hurt future titles by their name. Fans remember such things. lol

Morrowind was originally supposed to be called Tribunal, and set in Summerset Isle, and it was supposed to be more daggerfall esque in it's scope and province exploration. But, due to restrictions on technology, they cut it down to just Vvardenfell, and named it Morrowind. ^_^
Anyway, on topic, I'm still routing for E3. I know a lot of you doubt it, but I don't know. It just feels like it'll happen.
But, you know, when it feels like it'll happen, it usually doesn't. :P

Same here, if you ask me it's either E3 or it's not this year. Well not for a few months after E3 anyway.

<3 Morrowind and what it tried to do, falling short on high ambition usually produces a more interesting game than getting everything right on a modest design.

Speaking of which, since there is indeed a trademark dating back to the end of 2006, and there's Pete Hines and Todd Howard talking about him working on presumabley the same game since late 2008, the it's not too hard to suppose that there was a major redesign when Howard finally switched to working on the game full time. "Hey, we put out a really good game in Fallout 3. But you know our design for this one is too similar to the last two games we've done. What say we go back to the drawing board a bit and see how awesome we can really make this game."

If so, then who knows when the game will be finished, but if the ambition is high then I'll be more than willing to wait.

I think E3 sounds about right... announcement of the game there, book #2 is releases between the announcement of TES:V and the release of TES:V...

Ok, so that is not very realistic... at all... but i still like holding onto hope

Sounds as realistic as anything else, and it would make sense. Announce TESV, then release 2nd book to pump up hype.

Great, another generic fantasy forest. Iv'e played enough OB to last me a life time, so thanks, but no thanks; I don't need anymore generic fantasy forests for awhile.

Cough. I'm talking about you, Skyrim! Cough.

Id'e much rather play a game set in Summerset, Elsweyr, or Argonia.

I think you're the first person I've ever seen complain about Skyrim potentially having forests. Usually people complain about it being icy and boring. :bonk:

Most of my favorite maps in video games are Ice or snow covered. I know that winter scenery can be just as beautiful as summer or fall. However, id'e like to take a break from forests for awhile, just a change of pace. Oh, and something with more colour.
