Official TES V Speculation Thread

Post » Fri Apr 23, 2010 10:09 pm

re-reading the game engine update quote, could skyrim be a name for the new modified engine? Or is that outside of the trademark scope? After all, a video game engine is video game related, manuals are important, and clothing paraphernalia is cheap.

The only problem with that is that if it wasn't the name of the game, what would the name they game then? None of their trademarks besides Skyrim sound like anything TES related.

I would think they're using Skyrim. After all, what is the TES suggestion thread for? And most people, assuming Skyrim is being used, have made many Skyrim related suggestions. They must like some of them.

I'd actually like to know where the rumour started.

And what happened to Summerset Isles?

What about them? The only name they can use is Skyrim since it's the only name they've trademarked, any rumors of other names are false.

Technically, they could make an obscene risk by not trademarking the name of their game...

Hi Everyone!

Sorry Antibody, but for me:

1) Spend or not spend a few hundred of dollars to renew the Skyrim trademark for a huge incorporation like Zenimax... That's not the question... They don't care.
2) If i'm not wrong, maybe they renew the Skyrim trademark until the end of this one and when it expire they start a new one. I don't see the problem...

So, and that's just my point of view, the "fact" that they HAVE to announce the game until july isn't very sure yet...

1) It's not a matter of cost, it's a matter of time. It takes months to get a new trademark, and Zenimax DOES care about time. If it expires there will be a period of many months in which they cannot announce the game because they have no trademark.

2) If that was how they thought then it makes no sense to have renewed it in January. If they were going to let it expire and then start a new one, why wait until July to let it expire? It's going to take months to get a new one, so why not start early in January?

All hail the King of Speculation!!

On another note, we're going to see the next Game Informer cover within a week (most likely) so why not just wait it out for a few days?

The only reasonable alternative explanation, that I can surmise, would be to throw us off. Interestingly, Hunted showed up in the trademark records shortly before it was announced. It's a possibility, but I don't see it as a probability.

You will likely be disappointed. Bethesda have never announced via a magazine, and have always announced first on their website.

It would be pretty odd if Bethesda cared so much that a few of us knew about their trademark that they've been renewing it just to throw us off.

With Oblivion's announcement they announced the magazine cover pretty much right after the announcement for the game, so I wouldn't be surprised if they did the same for TES V.

Like Antibody said, they did announce it first, but then the magazine was right after. So if we don't catch the website, we can always catch the magazine

How mad would you guys be if they announced it on April Fools!

"HERES TES V! APRIL FOOLS!"

On second thought, its kinda cruel. Like eating a nice hot meal in front of a homeless person.

Also because development is not synonymous with time.

edit: ^ hmm or if an April 1st announcement was real with no quick follow-up

i did speculate a few threads ago (#5 i think) for tes5 to be released this year and still like to see BUT , with the other games now being released this fall that are being published by Bethesda , i'm getting the feeling that i will not see a tes5 this year. i do think waiting four years is far too long of a wait for another tes game with the amount of people working for them now...and it looks like tes5 is going to be for that next gen consoles that are coming out within the next year or so...my info was xbox 720...sorry i dont have a link

The next generation of consoles coming out within a year? I'm sorry but that's completely ridiculous. Microsoft and Sony are releasing Natal and Move this year, for this generation, so they sure as hell aren't going to come out with the next generation this year.

Even if Bethesda wasn't publishing any games, TES V wouldn't be released this year, for many reasons, that I'm tired of repeating. But I will say, again, that published games have no effect on Bethesda's developed games.

there is about a zero percent chance for a next gen announcement in the next year, let alone the next two or three

What if they announced on April 1st, then everyone would think its fake! Then on April 2nd they would be sayin' "No guys, We're serious man..."

That would be sooooo awesome.

What do you mean what happened? Summerset Isles was rumoured for Oblivion, not TES V. Skyrim's the only province that is trademarked.

There isn't any evidence to suggest that ESV will be announced in the next Game Informer, but we are very certain that ESV will have to be announced before July 31st.

That's when Bethesda's trademark on Skyrim expires.

Originally, Morrowind was supposed to take place in the Summerset Isles under the name "Tribunal", but it took place in Vvardenfell instead. Then, people thought Oblivion would take place in the Summerset Isles, but it took place in Cyrodiil. Then, people hoped TES V would take place in the Summerset Isles, but according to the Bethesda's trademark, it won't. Why do we have to wait so long for the Summerset Isles? It beats a frozen wasteland(by default). The frozen wasteland could be turned into a frozen magical land full of wonders and mysteries, but since the boring, non-Elven Nords live in Skyrim, I can't see that happening. Why couldn't Bethesda pick and trademark a more vague name, such as Oblivion and Tribunal, for TES V? At least the game's setting would be hidden from us until Bethesda wants to reveal the setting.

I for one am glad Bethesda hasn't made the Summerset Isles yet. They likely recognize that they probably couldn't do it justice yet. Of all of the places in Tamriel, Summerset Isles is by far the most fantastical, as well as politically complex.

I despise all the hate on Skyrim. I for one thought Bloodmoon was the best (though somewhat concise) thing Bethesda has yet offered us! Skyrim, I imagine, would be even more awesome!!!
