Official TES V Speculation Thread #35

Post » Thu Dec 30, 2010 7:39 pm

By the way, Microsoft is to reveal 14 games at a special pre E3 event on friday night. Gotta watch out for these things :)

This Friday? Heh, here's hoping. What time will it be, and is it going to be recorded anywhere online live?

Did they just say "Oblivion is going to be on the next-generation console from Microsoft and the PC"?

yep. quoting GameInformer 138, which was the first look at Oblivion:
...Oblivion is on its way, and its being debeloped for next-generation consoles. ...
The next generation, as most gaming fans know, refers to the upcoming consoles currently known as Microsoft's Xbox 2 ( also referred to by the codename Xenon), Sony's Playstation 3, and Nitendo's Revolution.

How's that for nostalgia :P

P.S. why yes, i do just happen to have that issue of GI lying around next to my computer. i've also got PCGamer 12.3 (march 05), which was the other big Oblivion article.

Does anyone else wonder why Bethesda would be listed as "Secret" instead of "No" in the surprise category?

I forgot that marketing people from large companies are known for telling the truth and only the truth about the products they sell. Even if people would stop buying them because of what they say.

Now they want you to buy what they have. When they have something new they will tell you that it is so much better than what you already have and that you need to buy it. The whole statement is nonsense since the XBox360 is far behind a modern PC in terms of hardware power. So they could put in more and better ram, a new GPU, a new CPU, a Bluray drive and a lot of other nice goodies. Maybe that is enough? But if he said something like 'the hardware has become so much better since the XBox360 was released and we're going to take advantage of that as soon as possible' many people would refrain from buying the XBox360 and rather wait for its successor. Which would be bad for Microsoft. So instead he says the XBox is great as it is, now go and buy one. It might be a loooong time before we release a new console so your money is not wasted. *chuckle*

Apart from that I'm not saying that they will release a new XBox anytime soon. But I think they might release one in one and a half years maybe (Christmas 2011 for example). And that could be the time when TES5 comes out as well. Just like anyone else I'm only speculating here, but I simply doubt that Bethesda wants to make the next TES title look like F03 or only a tad bit better than FO3.

So evidence doesn't do it then? Despite the fact that so many independent market anolysts, executives from the console companies themselves all say that the next generation of consoles won't come out for at least few more years, they must all be lying or be wrong because you don't think the systems are powerful enough.

Seriously, the next-gen consoles won't be coming out for quite some time because most everybody is fine with the current ones. Look at the comments on the link I provided to you in my previous posts. The comments with the most thumbs up are the ones saying that they are perfectly fine with this generation of consoles.

Wait, what did the developers say about the platform Oblivion was going to be on if the 360 wasn't announced yet? I don't remember.

Did they just say "Oblivion is going to be on the next-generation console from Microsoft and the PC"?

"Bethesda Softworks LLC, a ZeniMax Media company, today announced that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion? is currently in development for PC and future generation consoles." (from elderscrolls.com)

EDIT: Lady Nerevar beat me to it...

Of course back then is different from now. There's not much more room for improvement when it comes to this generation of consoles, except maybe optimization and stuff. Microsoft and Sony are already doing their motion controller thing. What's left? 3d?

Ahh, it is a preview show by Gametrailers.com on SpikeTv... that makes sense. It isn't a Microsoft event then. Still cool and I'll be watching, but probably the least likely place to see an announcement.

"They're hyping a shocking surprise, as one of the most legendary names in games unveils his top secret new project for the first time."

Quote from someone on that forum.

"On Friday's Pre-E3 special on Spike, a legendary game designer will unveil his next project and show gameplay! You won't want to miss it."

That was from Geoff Keighley's twitter. So, I doubt it's ESV.

"Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden creator Tomonobu Itagaki has a new game in the works at his start up Valhalla Game Studios." - Kotaku on a game that will be unveiled around E3. My money's on this being the Spike special. They tend to over-hype things.

So is there any chance that TES:V will be shown at E3? Or at least QuakeCon?

Certainly. There is always a chance. The pre-E3 show on Spike that promised a reveal though is not likely TESV (though of course there is always a chance, even if it's really teeny tiny itsy bitsy)

I can't really see ESV being one of those 14 games though, because they're showing a trailer for Fallout: New Vegas. I don't think Bethesda would want to put a reveal of ESV and Fallout; New Vegas in the same exact show.

Like I said, itty bitty... I have personally 0% hope that it will be, but logic simply dictates that until it is revealed, the realm of possibility and the nature of chance must at least be given notice.

I believe Bethesda's idea of announcing games isn't logical or guessable . I will wait patiently.

This is pretty much a given for anything that hasn't been revealed...

Yes it is, which is why even though I personally have 0% hope that the June 11th Spike Tv special will not be a TESV reveal, I cannot say with any level of certainty that there isn't at the very least a "chance" albeit as close to nothing as you can get without actually being nothing :)
