Official TES V Speculation Thread #35

Post » Thu Dec 30, 2010 4:45 pm

I hope there's an announcement in the next three months. Bethesda might be in a tough position though. They don't want to compete with any games they're publishing and they don't want to compete with whatever Zenimax Online is working on. Which, by the way is due for announcement soon as well.

So, who here is confident about an Elder Scrolls V announcement within the next 3 months?

I believe there's a high probability we'll see TES:V confirmed before the first frost (in the Midwest :P). See my sig below.

To be honest, I'm not going to try and guess when TES:V will be announced. It's like trying to predict Rapture. However, when it does happen, I will act as surprised as possible, and will make a cupcake for myself.

The thing is that, at this rate, Rapture is coming before TES V.

I have a feeling that this is a more reasonable expectation.

Put me in the "zero-decimal-something" chance for an E3 reveal camp though.

And thus we won't get our cupcake, which is what we really want.

They've done it every game. Why do people suddenly expect something different out of the company?
It's always been like this, and methinks it always will be. We wait. We wait some more, and then eventually we get an announcement.

Whether we know or not, they are still making it, or not. Taking their time making whatever game they're working on and only revealing its existence when it's ready is what they should be doing, in my opinion. I don't want TES V to be rushed. As for fan treatment, all four Elder Scrolls games are only a total of $50, now, including the expansions. They released the first two for free and the quality and size of Bethesda's games are greater than the quality and size of most other games, despite costing the same amount as the others when released. Bethesda treats its fans very well.

I think we all need to remember that us knowing it or not has absolutley no impact on any game Bethesda is developing right now.

But we can stop speculating and start telling them what to do then.

So evidence doesn't do it then? Despite the fact that so many independent market anolysts, executives from the console companies themselves all say that the next generation of consoles won't come out for at least few more years, they must all be lying or be wrong because you don't think the systems are powerful enough.

Seriously, the next-gen consoles won't be coming out for quite some time because most everybody is fine with the current ones. Look at the comments on the link I provided to you in my previous posts. The comments with the most thumbs up are the ones saying that they are perfectly fine with this generation of consoles.

If I google for XBox 720 I can find just as many rumors and 'evidence' from marketing anolysts, company employees etc about it coming out in 2011 or even 2010 (which of course won't happen) as I can find rumors about it coming out in 10 years (which also won't happen). At least a few more years? Sorry, but I don't and can't believe that. PCs are much, much more powerful than XBox 360 already, in five years the XBox would look like an Atari VCS 2600 compared to a PC. Then there is also the competition between Sony and Microsoft. They can't allow themselves to sit back and be happy with what they have, just like any other hardware developer can't do that. If Sony releases a PS4 while Microsoft says they're still happy with their XBox for the next few year they would be out of business.

Naturally people don't want to spend money. People also don't like change. But if there is something new and shiny they go and buy it. Do you think the world was waiting for something like the iPad? It has a touch screen and it looks stylish, but other than that it's just a netbook like any other netbook. People could have easily lived without it, but now Apple sells millions of iPads. If Microsoft announced XBox 720 and had some fantastic games and features to show people would get excited about it and quickly forget about their 360's.

And like I already said, I don't think that NOW is the time for a new XBox. But I could very well imagine that christmas 2011 for example would be a good time. And that wouldn't be too long for a new Elder Scrolls title. Bethesda always announced titles at least 1.5 years before they came out as far as I can see. So if they announced TES 5 in fall 2010 for example they could release it in spring 2012.

But if you are right and I am wrong then Bethesda probably has no chance but to develop the next Elder Scrolls title for the 360. If it really takes 5 more years before a new console generation will be out they certainly don't want to wait that long. I can't imagine though that they will be able to do anything that is much better than FO3 with Gamebryo on that hardware. We will see.

Well, they are updating their tech stuff, so who wouldn't it look better? What else is a tech update for? I could ask my buddies who go to RIT (because unlike me they know this stuff, being in an actual tech school and all) but I'm pretty sure they'd say the same thing.

Anyhow, this may sound odd, but the only person who I'd believe if they said "we won't be announcing this" is Todd. GStaff is the community manager and he needs to keep us from going too nuts, and Pete is a PR guy and is required to flatly deny it until announcement, so while we appreciate their time they'd do as much good if they just said nothing, but lying isn't in Todd's job description.

Hell, this thread is stinking of pessimism now. I'm gonna go watch some Red vs Blue to get the stench out.

EDIT: And for the record, I'll be scraping the bottom of the barrel to buy the $60 game alongside my tuition. If it comes out on a new console, this is not an exaggeration, college students like me will be literally unable to buy it no matter how much we want it.

At the moment console games are flowing healthily onto shelves and selling really well. Untill this starts to dip will sony and microsoft think about bringing a new console out.

And yes, i also take bethesda's denials with a pinch of salt.

True but Microsoft and Sony are still trying to get the most ROI for current generation consoles. As I understand the devices were produced at below cost. Profits come from self published titles and licensing. They need the current consoles to be viable for as long as possible. PC hardware market is driven more by productivity software and hardware sales are acutally profitable. Its a different dynamic. PC's compete with each other and consoles compete with each other (by title) but I don't think the console mfg's feel threatened by the PC just yet and they won't for some time. They may have to learn to be more creative/efficient though (ex: IDtech 5 and CryEngine 3). Whose to say GameBryo/Bethesda can't play the same game (pun).

I don't know why I have this gut feeling they will talk about it at Microsofts press conference.

I don't give a crap what Bethesda tells us anymore, they are announcing it at E3 unless Todd Howard tells me that they're not.

  • Make grabbing items similar to how Half Life 2 does it, so you can click the attack button to throw the object you're holding.

Looks like there will be Dinosaurs in ES5. Now we know for sure that the game will indeed take place in Akavir. This is going to be awesome!

Going out on a limb and saying it's either from Brink, or New Vegas.

Someone on that website posted a related picture. It's definitely for Fallout.
