Official TES V Speculation Thread #36

Post » Sun Jan 02, 2011 9:42 pm

Maybe an announcement for TES V at Quakecon then? Just a thought.

Seems to me thats what Pete said. From the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Main_Page. look at no news at E3

Yeah, it would be nice if you folks could report this when it reaches the post limit since you must know us moderators are busy with FO:NV, Brink, Rage, The Hunted forums. And you know, this thing is filling up with posts which add little but "OMG E3 they must announce it there" when Gstaff and previously Pete told us not to expect it at E3. Remember there are other events where games can be announced and Pete as much as said he would prefer to make such sorts of announcements other places. E3 isn't as big a deal since they stopped admitting fans anyway. Let me see if I can find Pete's statement about that.

Found it:
http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/04/interview-bethesdas-pete-hines/

Anyway, I had a good mind to leave this closed a couple of days because so many folks spammed the end of the last thread instead of reporting it. :toughninja:

Too many "maybe"s and "probably"s in Pete's statements to completely rule out the possibility. Also, Gstaff pointed out the list of games they were "bringing" to E3, not announcing. In the realm of speculation, and the history of Bethesda, wordplay is certainly more that just hope gone crazy... not to mention the fact that we've heard many things pop out of Bethesda mouths in the past that weren't 100% on the mark...

And just so I know, cause I am not too sure what I am supposed to do, when we see a thread has like 10 pages are we supposed to send you an email or something?

Actually, this years E3 marks the return BACK to admitting fans.

But regardless, you are still correct about them not announcing any games at E3. I don't recall Bethesda ever using it to announce games before anyways, so why expect them to do it now?

And just so I know, cause I am not too sure what I am supposed to do, when we see a thread has like 10 pages are we supposed to send you an email or something?

Just use the 'report' button by any person's name and mention that the thread is over 200 posts.

at the bottom left corner of each post is a button that says "report." click it and it will bring up a PM like window that goes to all the moderators.

Cool, I think I had read that along the way but it hadn't stuck.

I think with this description of http://news.quakecon.org/post/542825407/quakecon-2010Quakecon that it would be a good guess that if they are going to announce it anytime this year it would be at Quakecon.:

WHAT: QuakeCon is a free convention held yearly in Dallas, Texas brought to you by id Software, Bethesda Softworks and their parent company ZeniMax Media Inc.

It would stand to reason they might want something big at an event they themselves are sponsoring.

I don't know. If it isn't at E3, then I'll just console myself with Zelda and Mr. Tissue Box's signature.

Oh by the way, do we still need breath-holders? I should be good at about 10PM tomorrow EST, if we need them. I can go for about half a minute on a good day.

QuakeCon is sponsored by Bethesda? Awesome. I think that substantially raises the chances of a TES announcement there. I never had a great feeling about an E3 announcement, but I am genuinely excited for QuakeCon this year.

Zenimax OWNS bethesda softworks and id (which makes quake, hence quakecon)

I apologize. I mean to say QuakeCon, not Zenimax. But yes, it makes sense.

With Pete's statement about how they'd prefer to announce stuff at QuakeCon, and how they are sponsoring it, it makes me quite hopeful...

Okay. So my bets are now on a Quake con announcement or a GI announcement.

Just wait until after E3 before we look forward to QuakeCon. Give it a chance, folks! If it's there, then we cheer. if it isn't, THEN we can look ahead.

I'm not giving it much of a chance. Nowadays, it just seems so unlikely.

The announcement must come before QuakeCon if they are to satisfy the trademark... if TESV isn't Skyrim, then it certainly can be announced there.

Well:
Pete and Gstaff said basically that E3 isn't the place to make any announcements.
A dude at Gameinformer tweeted that he just got the cover art for the next issue and fantasy fans are gonna poo themselves.
The trademark for Skyrim expires at the end of July and QuakeCon is in August where...
...Pete said he thought it was a great place to show off their stuff.

So that's about it.

Basically this is it:
We have the tweet from the GI editor guy (or whoever it was that worked on GI) that the cover of the next GI issue (which is the August issue, which we will see the cover on in July) is going to "make fantasy fans crap themselves". Looking at a number of recent fantasy games, we can see that most are either already announced, probably going to be announced at E3, or aren't going to be heard of for some time. This means TES V has a bit of a larger chance to be on that cover, but, of course, its all speculation.

As for being unveiled at QuakeCon, it is because Zenimax now owns Id software, and Bethesda has expressed a desire to be present at QuakeCon to make it a joint venture for all Zenimax owned companies to show off their games and to make it a convention to really show off all their stuff. If Bethesda is committed to this, we should see them at QuakeCon with something to show, and there's hope that rather than just show off games they're publishing they'll also unveil a big game to really hit the point home that QuakeCon is a big event.

Let me add to the GI tweet. He also said that the cover is a "giant sequel, not at E3".

See my signature. :P

Ah crap, I had just resolved myself to wait and now you've got me all excited again. I just wish they would at least tell us if they're even working on it. I hate the fact that every time the merest hint of a rumour strikes these boards we all start salivating only to wake up a month later all wet and disappointed. Figure at best if they announce it at QC we've got a q4 2011 release at best. Unless they read my post a while back and are doing absolutely no PR up until release and the game ships in September...
