Official TES V Speculation Thread #36

Post » Sun Jan 02, 2011 12:10 pm

I assume you meant announcement and not release. I'm not so sure the GI tweet implies that Bethesda will announce TES:V before E3, mainly because the tweet doesn't confirm TES:V exclusively (it could be another game it's referencing). Also, I highly doubt Bethesda would announce TES:V before or during E3 because it would no doubt take promotional attention away from the games its publishing. If this GI tweet is legit and referencing TES:V, then I would look to the first week in July for the announcement (or really anytime right before the reveal of August's GI cover).

I think you mis-interpreted what he said. He was basically saying that in order to announce the game via GI, Bethesda has to provide a lot of details on the game in order to flesh out a complete cover story. Whereas, announcing the game via E3, all they really have to do is walk up on stage and say "Hey, we're making TES V." Providing these details on the game (via GI announcement) gives the impression that the game is further along in development which would imply an earlier release date than if they provided no details at all (via E3 announcement).

Either way, I still think it'll be 1 year+ from announcement to release and I'm almost positive we'll get some form of indication of the announcement (probably on elderscrolls.com) prior to the August GI issue.

We were talking about ElderScrolls.com a couple threads ago and it turns out that Oblivion was announced on IGN fifteen days (something like that) before they put it on the website.

Unfortunately, when I think of "fantasy gamers" I imagine Blizzard fans.

Didn't Blizzard say they were working on a new big project?

http://www.techspot.com/news/34721-blizzard-confirms-next-mmo-based-on-new-franchise.html

That article said the MMO would be based on an entirely new franchise. The tweet said giant SEQUEL.

http://m.kotaku.com/5560860/rumor-e3-floorplan-reveals-mass-effect-dragon-age-sequels
And the list grows shorter. This is like playing geuss who.

BOOM. That rules out Dragon Age 2. Probably.

Thank you.

Now, GI won't be Dungeon Siege 3, that's going to be at E3, but Thief 4, that's something I haven't thought about it. That is a possibility.

Tissue Box you made everyone's day. I salute you good sir.

Thank you, I'm glad I could share this with everyone.

Perhaps, but I don't think so...but I'll address your point as well. Announcing at E3 with a simple "Yes we're making it" statement would not go so smoothly as you depict it. Bethesda would surely then be ravaged by reporters clamoring for more info, which would be a distraction away from what they really want to accomplish at this E3: promote the games they're publishing. The "Yes we're making it" statement will almost certainly come first through the website, followed by telling everyone to go pick up the next GI issue.

I really don't think many implications can be made on a release date based on the amount of detail they release. They'll likely be fairly tight-lipped on the details until the actual release is nigh. Most of the information provided on Oblivion in GI's exclusive was vague and really didn't provide much detail.

So ok... it won't be Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 3, The Witcher 2, Two Worlds II - because these titles will be shown at E3 yes?

Giant sequel which fantasy nuts will craps themselves: TESV, Baldur's Gate 3, Thief IV, TES MMO... any other ideas ?

Why is TES MMO even in your consideration. Sequel, remember?

Considering Hasbro-Atari lawsuit, I highly doubt we'll hear about BG3 in a couple of years. TES MMO is not a sequel technically. All hopes for TES V.

I actually agree with you here; I was trying to clarify the other poster's post. I'll go back to lurking now. :ninja:

I can't find it anymore, but someone found an article on 9/2/04 (I believe) and it was announced on ElderScrolls.com on the tenth.

Technically the main plot could be continuation of Oblivion. But ok, it is too much trickery in this. Forget TES MMO

Interesting article, but given the date, idk. Remember there are articles from 2008 stating that TESV would be released by 2010 and so on. Hard to take those kind of things seriously.

Yes I understand that, but in the first pharagraph you have confirmation from ATARI about planning to develop new BG, NWN title and in the second pharagraph you have information that these games "may not be out until 2010 or so". So it looks like that everything is according to plan.

They started countdown on that date so that's probably what the news was about. The game was announced on the 10th on the ES website.

Why are people mentioning Thief 4?. Isn't that game already announced with screenshots and stuff? The only other possibility is Dragon Age 2.

There is a rumor says that Dragon Age 2 will be shown at E3. http://www.vg247.com/2010/06/11/rumour-gamespot-e3-floor-plan-outs-dragon-age-2-mass-effect-3-dead-or-alive-5/

Well, yeah I suppose Thief 4 has been revealed, but I don't think it'll be at E3.

Dragon Age 2 is ruled out, as it's been shown to be at E3.

EDIT: Here's another reason why Thief 4 won't be the GI- Eidos Montreal is busy with Deus Ex 3.

not how i remember it. we got a countdown (10 days?) on the website first, which was all black and red with enigmatic text in daedric. after that reached day 0 they gave us the press release and said that Game Informer would have an exclusive (that was their october 2004 issue). And then all hell broke loose.

If I remember correctly wasn't it announced with screenshots and such like 2 years before actual release? Or is my memory faulty?

I hope that's not the the case this time around though, dont wanna wait till 2012 for the next game.

I think it Might be TES, cause I haven't heard of some of the other games that you are naming, and I'm a pretty big fantasy game fan.
