If I remember correctly wasn't it announced with screenshots and such like 2 years before actual release? Or is my memory faulty?

I'm thinking there never was an original release date other than Q4 of 05.

Actually, it was announced September 10th, 2004 according to ElderScrolls.com

I think you mis-interpreted what he said. He was basically saying that in order to announce the game via GI, Bethesda has to provide a lot of details on the game in order to flesh out a complete cover story. Whereas, announcing the game via E3, all they really have to do is walk up on stage and say "Hey, we're making TES V." Providing these details on the game (via GI announcement) gives the impression that the game is further along in development which would imply an earlier release date than if they provided no details at all (via E3 announcement).

Either way, I still think it'll be 1 year+ from announcement to release and I'm almost positive we'll get some form of indication of the announcement (probably on elderscrolls.com) prior to the August GI issue.

Exactly. Couldn't have explained it better

Of course, dates might vary depending on whether you considered the game to have been announced at the beginning or end of the countdown ...

i had september down before the edit, but then checked the website and first date I found was october. september does make more sense though, as the october GI would have come out then instead.

Well...honestly I have a hard time myself finding a more suitable alternative. Everything that came to my mind fitting the criteria (Dragon Age, Final Fantasy, and Zelda) can be ruled out...but admittedly I am not well in-the-know about video games other than what I play.

BOOM. That rules out Dragon Age 2. Probably.

I hate to rain on the hype parade but http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/06/11/ea-quashes-mass-effect-3-dragon-age-2-rumor.aspx, according to EA. :violin:

It appears Kotaku drew the rumor from Gamestop, which ended up being wrong.

So the next GI still could be Dragon Age 2.

But I hope not. I never really got into Dragon Age. It was a good game, but I just wasn't feeling it.

It better be TESV!!

EDIT: This is all in reference to the Gameinformer http://twitter.com/GI_AndyMc. Find the world fantasy and you will find the tweet.

"Got the cover art in today for the next issue. Giant sequel not at E3, and the art...well, fantasy nuts are gonna crap themselves"

But the article is on Game Informer itself. The tweet was posted on June 8th, while the confirmation of "no Dragon Age 2 on E3" - on June 11th.

Yep. Which means that the next GI could be Dragon Age 2 instead of TESV.

Which is bad.

EDIT: Actually the tweet was posted on June 7th to be precise. :nerd:

Which means that on June 8th (when the tweet with "Giant sequel not at E3" was posted) they had no idea that "Dragon Age 2 on E3" is inaccurate. Just a speculation, of course.

It is shown as 8th to me. Different time zones, I think.

EA? Aren't they those goofy people who still have Rage on their website with a link pointing to Bethesda?

Ohhh. True.

They thought DA2 was going to be at E3 when they posted that tweet. So therefore, it most likely isn't DA2 in the next GI (unless they were really lazy about posting news on gameinformer).

Which means it could be, should be TESV!!! :celebration:

You have given me hope once again.

And....

Everyone is talking about the August cover.

The July cover has been known for some time. The August cover is what the tweet in question is talking about. They just received the art for it.

Although sounding a bit vague at first, when you look into it, it seems this may well
be the jackpot :). Here's hoping.

Still nearly a month away though.

Beth is good at keeping secrets, so it is conceivable that even if the art received is TESV for the GI issue, Beth could still surprise everyone with an E3 announcement... though I must say as the days wain on, I am feeling less an less optimistic about an E3 announcement (which will make the surprise announcement that much more exciting...ahem, that is if there is an E3 announcement... which there won't be).

And just to bring E3 back into the equation...

Microsoft @E3: "bigger announcements than natal ahead"

An email that went out to Xbox.com users said, "With the massive Project Natal announcement at last year's event, you'd think we'd find it hard to top that. Well, think again. This year at E3 we've got even BIGGER announcements to share with you."

I still think it's very unlikely Dragon Age II would be revealed in the next GI. It's way too soon, and even their fans know that. That paper that shipped with Dragon Age: Awakenings that had the February 2011 date, that's much more likely to be the date that DAII is announced, rather than released.

Microsoft is doing 3D gaming... I think it was G4 that scooped that right away... I got the announcement and was excited too until the G4 feed popped in right behind :shakehead:

I'd say Mr. Tissue, I agree with you 99% of the time, but with the way Assassin's Creed II and ME2 and ME3 announcements came so quickly after the release of the predecessors, it certainly isn't unheard of, and in the case of Mass Effect, it actually is their process.
