Official TES V Speculation Thread #36

Post » Sun Jan 02, 2011 10:12 am

There is NO OFFICIAL information about a new TES game release.

This thread is for member speculation of when and if TES V will be released. This is where you post any new information about when it might be released, tidbits from interviews which mention it and such.

It is also where you post your theories of when you think it might come out based on guesses, number crunching, rumors or such.

This is about speculating on the next TES game and when -- or if -- it is going to be released. It is not a place for discussion of what is going to be in it, what type of graphics there will be, or any other subject of that type; they belong in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1090035-tes-v-ideas-and-suggestions-164/. If those kind of posts get raised they will be deleted and the poster warned for going off topic.

I know! Why'd they shut us down?! We were having such a great time!

On topic: Another day goes by without an announcement, but we can pray that the GameInformer announcement will be TES V.

Realizing that Gstaff just flatly denied the existence of a surprise announcement at E3, it is kind of weird that none of the three games they're showcasing are being developed by Bethesda. New Vegas isn't much of an announcement, either. It just seems odd that Vegas is all they have to unveil, especially when part of that project is owing to Obsidian. It's hard to believe the studio hasn't been working on anything independently.

Although, I don't know much about E3. Maybe I'm misunderstanding its purpose.

What are the chances of there actually NOT being Elder Scrolls 5 in production right now?

Is Bethesda even known to be working on ANY game right now?

Actually, I only just remembered the book series. It's supposed to be two books, right? A some-hundred-year link between ES IV and V? Only The Infernal City is released currently, so...

Ohhh well.

Infernal City takes place 40 years after ESIV I think...not several hundred...or on second hand I dont even know if thats what you meant.

Do the books matter though? I mean Bethesda doesnt write them do they?

What I meant was that there is a two-part book series in the works that's supposed to bridge the gap between ES IV and V; Bethesda commissioned them. So far, only one of the books is released, so that's a pretty conclusive estimation of how likely it is that we'll see ES V any time soon.

But has it ever been confirmed that the books are being released specifically to bridge the gap to TESV? or is that just what we hope?

I guess not. I can't find the direct quote, but I could've sworn it was confirmed somewhere...

In October last year Amazon and another site had a description for the second book saying that the next book would bridge the '200 year gap' between Elderscrolls 4 and 5. They only had it up for a short while however before presumably someone from Bethesda told them to take it down. Not fast enough to stop the rumours spreading though.

I think the game must start with a flashforward halfway around main quest.

Character with a powerful spell and a weapon. Cleverly hided face, race, inventory...

Cinematic opening which would make anyone's jaw drop with

awesomest

combat,
effects,
music,
hugeness,
anticipation,

cut to black

Wake up, we are here.
Why are you shaking?
Are you okay? Wakeup!

Stand up, there you go. You were dreaming. What's your name?
....
Well, not even last night's storm could wake you. I heard them say we've reached [Province name]. I'm sure they'll let us go.

Good old Morrowind feeling everywhere, anticipation on how this is gonna turn into the dream setting...

Now imagine how awesome that would be. So this way you won't scare the gamers with somewhat powerless, slow progression start.

Win. Win.

Did a check with my gamer associates (with a grand total of 7 games installed, I don't count) regarding the GI tweet.

First reaction was "why do you care? You'll hate it anyway". Second was a new Zelda game (E3 invalidated?)

One person guessed the source right away. One person's first guess was FFXIV, and his second was TESV. Everyone else had no idea. One person went so far as to say "hope it's something completely different than a TES game, but I can't think of anything else that fits."

Obviously, there's not a huge flood of possible titles for this tease. TESV or Dragon Age 2 are just clear favorites at this point.

I'm sorry, I haven't followed the spec thread closely for the last two days or so: what GI tweet are you referring to, links?

Unfortunately, when I think of "fantasy gamers" I imagine Blizzard fans.

Didn't Blizzard say they were working on a new big project?

"Got the cover art in today for the next issue. Giant sequel not at E3, and the art...well, fantasy nuts are gonna crap themselves"

To me... not to be a downer... this means that the "art" will make fantasy fans crap themselves... not that this game isn't fantasy themed. I would love it to be TESV... remember GI's Oblivion cover? That was very Renaissance era art with surrealistic hell-scapes behind it, so you never know what TESV art would look like.

I get the feeling there would be a more traditionally "fantasy" style game that would evoke a "fantasy art fan pants crap-athon" (yeah say that three times fast!) We shall see! I guess if the other big fantasy games have no showing at E3 we'll still have doubt. Does anyone know if Two Worlds 2 will be at E3? I would think so, but you never know.

It's one of three games SouthPeak will have there, if google's results are to be believed.

I think its to early for Blizzard too announce new MMO. WOW is still being supported by Blizz (Cataclysm - expansion)

It is possible that it will be Dragon Age 2, Baldur's Gate 3 (I remember that Atari mentioned some time ago that Baldur's Gate franchise will return) or it could be TESV (trademark theory)

The tweet references a sequel, however the Blizzard article seems to hint at a new IP instead so I do not believe it refers to anything from Blizzard.
