Official TES V Speculation Thread #37

Post » Sat Jan 08, 2011 1:18 pm

Agreed. TES V will be the cover of GI. I'm so sure of it that I don't even feel the need for this thread anymore.

Except that once the "if/is/when" questions are answered, we still have thousands of posts of "what/will/could"s to speculate on! As if a little thing like an announcement could ever satisfy us...

Get in the spirit of baseless speculation here!

We're not doing any game announcements at E3. As mentioned a couple weeks ago, the games we're showing at E3 are Hunted: The Demon's Forge, RAGE, Fallout: New Vegas, and Brink.

I'm definitely getting the impression that they are doing a 'game announcement' soon. :D GI seems so perfect; ES V would fit the description, and the timing would be perfect.

I really hope that somebody who knows all these things up at Bethesda is watching and smiling to him/herself. We're onto you, ya smug jerks!

EDIT: Oh, I get it now! Bethesda has to file a statement of intent to use Skyrim by August (or drop the tm), which means that if it's not announced by then, we'll at least have confirmation from the Patent Office. And I just now saw the tweet from GI about fantasy nuts crapping themselves. I feel a lot better now.

I hope this game is the game to end all games, the type of game i'll be playing 2-3 years after release still :)

Speculation: did somebody say next to Skyrim trademark there is another titled "Deathmark"?
DLC anyone?

Yes, but those would be in an official TESV subforum, and not this thread :D

Well, Kingdom Hearts is a lot more popular than people think. Although, I do need to go with my gut and say it wouldn't be KH3 based on my own tastes. I do really like the series, it's surprisingly well-written and the gameplay is fun, but I don't think it's a pants-soiler, at least not here in the US.

Dragon Age II, though, I don't know. Is it too soon for that? And would that be a pants-soiler? Not for me, but it did seem pretty popular. I was working at Gamestop when it was released and that thing sold like crazy.

I was greatly perplexed when I opened my Dragon Age case and out drops this card with Dragon Age II and a date. It was simultaneously disappointing and bewildering to me because I was thinking, "Who announces a release date for a game's sequel within the game's packaging and within such a short time frame?", then I subsequently answered myself with "Either a company that has grossly underestimated the date or a company that's planning to cut corners." I really liked the first Dragon Age, so I'm very hopeful this date is not for a release but for a reveal.

Therefore, in hope for both the DA series and TES:V, I do not expect DA:II to be GI's July cover.

wait, what?

I didn't see any sort of release date card. I bought it used, though, so would that effect it?

So now E3 is in full swing, and we've still not heard anything abiut TESV. I can't help but fall back on my usual position of total skeptisism, and say that we're just eating our own tails here, and TESV isn't coming out in this console lifetime. Or possibly ever, at least in the format we are accustomed to. Maybe if we give up and go do something else Bethesda will take notice and have to release something to get our attention back.

You people can be such Debbie Downers.

There was really no reason to expect TES V to be announced at E3. No reason at all, so why you people are getting so depressed is beyond me.

Just keep your eyes peeled for the next two Game Informers as there is really nothing we can speculate on at this time and the only thing we can do is just wait.

Right. Because not now means never. Especially when they already said it wouldn't be now and heavily implied that it would be something else very soon.

Agreed. I think if they don't pull a surprise concept art literally out of their asses or something at Booth Two then the GI cover and QuakeCon is a near-certainty.

I only suspected it because the only person I don't expect to lie is Todd. It's GStaff's job to keep us from rioting and Pete's job to either hide or plug based on announcement status. Todd is the only one who basically isn't contractually obligated to lie.

So, I'll be watching Nintendo's conference if you need me.

EDIT: And E3 technically isn't in full swing yet. Yesterday was just Microsoft's conference. E3 doesn't start for a little while yet. So I guess we'll see.

There never was (or should have been) much reasoned expectation to hear about TES:V at E3. I've said from since this crazy notion was first posited that TES:V would not be announced at E3. E3 is not the only time of year to announce a game. In fact, most games are NOT announced at E3.

Most of us actually involved in the discussions in this thread have never expected anything to happen at E3. There was hope, in recognition of the realm of possibilities, but no expectation. Those who are posting rants of disappointment here have never really been apart of the discussions but nonetheless have seem to come out of the woodwork readily claiming the attachments of "we" and "us".

To make more clear: If they were going to reveal Dragon Age II in the GI, why not just reveal it at E3? GameInformer gets the art and information before E3 begins, so Bioware would have been more than ready I'm sure to reveal it at E3. But they're not revealing DAII at E3, so I don't think they're ready to reveal it yet, and certainly not in the next GI. The first Dragon Age was revealed at E3 back then anyway.

Also, that card with the Feb. 2011 date is probably the release date for a second big expansion. Didn't Bioware say they wanted to make a lot of expansions for DA?

And lastly, Bioware put out it's fiscal plan for 2011, up to March 31st. A "Dragon Age TBA title" was in there. It didn't say Dragon Age II, it could be the second expansion.

i can see it not being in Game Informer. Elder Scrolls has its own special fan base, and "fantasy fans," to me, is being used to describe the generalized group of RPG players. and that generalized group is not an Elder Scrolls fan. based on my experience with other RPG fans, Elder Scrolls does not seem to have as large a fan base a lot of the people here seem to think. they're fans are definitely huge and loyal fans, but i think we're just a small factor in the product of RPG fans.

Have you seen how well Oblivion has sold? Most RPG fans are probably not Morrowind fans, but everyone and their mom has played (or at least heard of) Oblivion.

Plus, pretty much every thread everywhere on the internet about "upcoming games you're looking forward to", there's always, always people going "ELDER SCROLLS V NAO".

I agree, but I think to his point though, when you talk about the fanbase for TES you aren't really talking about the traditional rpg (Japan-style) fan. TES is in its own kind of nebulous world of sandbox/rpg with the recent changes that Oblivion brought to combat, a spin towards fps style action... which is partly why everyone and their mom has heard of it. The tweet for "fantasy fans" doesn't really feel right in some respects when talking about TES... but here's hoping it is!!

Keep in mind though that what's-his-face couldn't just come out and say "Man, fans of The Elder Scrolls series are gonna be stoked!" I think "fantasy" is as close as you can come without being career-endingly specific.

With shared elements such as orcs and elves, it's difficult to separate TES and Lord of the Rings from the same fabric of fantasy.

Could the GI cover be the new Zelda game, or is the cover of GI supposed to be an unannounced game?
