Old news, actually.

The point of a 'surprise' is surprise, of course. I still think it highly unlikely that TES5 will be at E3 in any form, but they wouldn't list a surprise on the form a week before the show if they were going to make a big splashy reveal.

i'd be very surprised at an E3 announcement. it be a great surprise but it unlikely. i think itll be a GI annoucement liek with oblivion and a quakecon reveal. Why sponsore quakecon if your not gonna show something big?

Maybe an anouncement at E3, and a show at Quake Con.

I think it would be fair to say that TES:V would be released on some newish gameplatform, allowing for updated graphics. If this is the case then this might be the thing Bethesda is waiting for: http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/13/rumor-xbox-360-slim-and-kinect-outed-by-microsoft-ad/

E3 == upgraded platform anouncement
GI == TES:V anouncement
QC/later this summer == Offical Bethesda anouncement.

not a rumor for natal
they renamed it
Cirque du Soleil Experience Unveils Kinect for Xbox 360
Published June 13, 2010

On the eve of the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, Xbox made entertainment history through a stunning Cirque du Soleil production that brought controller-free gaming and entertainment to life and gave “Project Natal” its real name: Kinect for Xbox 360.

this is on xbox live
so not a rumor
but i would not want TES for 'Kinect'

And how many people will buy this new console? It is better to develop for the established platforms which a lot of people own.

And it's E3 day...

Hopefully we get at least some information during these 3 days. I've been waiting for this day for a long time...

So... the new version of XBOX360 is coming out. It is smaller than previous and has 250gb HDD, wi-fi etc. But it is still the same X360. So what we know? For now Microsoft and game developers are still focused on x360, not new new generations.

Hypothetically speaking, if there is any kind of TES:V reveal at E3, I'm not sure it's about timing so much as about secrecy. IF they do reveal TES:V, I would expect them to require all press to be sworn to secrecy (using their firstborn as collateral) until the August GI issue comes out (a BIG assumption here). Therefore, we wouldn't hear about it even if they did reveal TES:V.

However, this scenario is very doubtful so don't raise your hopes.

I would say that either they announce it today at the conference (and thanks to time zones I get out of work just in time to watch the conference myself!) or quietly, pulling a Nintendo as I had hoped. Both of these, of course, assume E3 announcement.

And if they do neither, like I said, use Zelda for the fantasy fix and wait for the August GI while thinking about that guy's tweet.

Thanks to the time zones, I have to wait several hours for E3... I hope it's worth it

If you want to get technical, we need to wait another full day for E3 proper. I never did figure out why Microsoft can go a day early. But if there is TESV it'll be worth it. if there isn't, well, I guess we'll see.

Work is going to be agonizingly slow today.

They don't.

The exhibition hall opens when E3 starts on Tuesday.

It just so happens that Microsoft spends a jillion dollars putting on a giant show for the media in another building in the same city, while all the game journalists are in town, on Monday.

Its not a matter of "why they can" or "day early". Its a matter of MS having the belief that getting out in front of E3 proper and setting the tone by being the first thing people see when they start checking coverage of E3 is worth the millions of dollars its costs to rent a stadium in LA.

Uhg, I got off a nightshift and am going to be staying up to see the press confrence, so its a good thing I don't work Monday nights.

So here are some things to consider about the conference that is now just over 2 hours from commencement. Micro$oft has a history of making some major game announcements during their conferences that are cross-platform (at the very least PC and Xbox). They span several genres and are developed by other companies. Here they are with the associated E3 conferences:

2003: Halo 2 and Fable announced
2006: Halo 3, GTA IV, and Gears of War announced
2007: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, BioShock, Assassin’s Creed, and Rock Band unveiled
2009: The Beatles: Rock Band, Modern Warfare 2 unveiled

I look at the above and don't see any real RPGs; perhaps it is time... we shall see!

MSN article on E3. Holds a nice quote from Pete Hines:

"But Pete Hines, vice president of Bethesda Softworks, doesn’t believe that this year’s E3 is going to be the most important moment in gaming history. While he’s as excited as the next games publisher about this week’s big show, he says the industry’s slump has been overstated – that the business is simply experiencing what everyone else is experiencing in these tough economic times.

And he says while motion controls and 3D gaming are going to be important and exciting for the industry and players, it’s really the great games – the kind of games that are the stars of E3 year in and year out – that are going to be the high point of this week's event.

“Technologies come and go or they come and stay, but ultimately what gets people excited is the games,” Hines says, adding, “Our lineup is probably the strongest we’ve ever had in the 20 plus year history of this company.”"

link: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37632346/ns/technology_and_science-games//

Here's hoping that TES V will be part of that lineup, not at E3 maybe, but perhaps at Quakecon. What I like about this quote is that he realizes that the focus on games shouldn't just be "the latest and greatest hardware" but that the games themselves make themselves good. This is why I like Bethesda as a gaming company moreso than others.

But it has true one to one. It can move forwards and backwards on three dimensions unlike the Wii. Look at the sword/shield and archery demos. Could be cool for hack n' slash, but maybe not for TES.
