Official TES V Speculation Thread #39

Post » Thu Feb 24, 2011 10:47 pm

Personally, I think that the August GI is 70% TES V, 10% Dragon Age II, 10% Diablo III, and 10% unjustified hype.

Im sure its been asked a million times but im kinda falling out of things...when will subscribers recieve GI's 2010 addition?

Hm, that seems pretty optimistic to me. I'd say more like 30% TESV, 20% DAII, 15% DIII, 35% other/unjustified hype. (I'm lumping other together with unjustified hype because my reaction to either will be pretty much the same.)

It will likely be revealed around July 5-12 and subscribers will get it around the 10-12th.

It was intentionally optimistic because I didn't want to suppress the enthusiasm in these forums since the day we got the GI remark.
You see this particular thread has been quite gloomy for some time now.
And by unjustified hype this is exactly what I meant, any game other than the 3 mentioned in my post, because in my opinion no other fantasy game can be described as a giant sequel.

Just to add a few "Facts"

Dragon Age 2 is "announced", not officially revealed but confirmed to be in production so I doubt it's that. I should know this because I was the guy that noticed a developer let that loose by accident on their forums, before the first game was even out. They just sort of shrugged and went with it.

Thus, it has to be an unannounced game, and it can't be a blizzard game, they announce all their [censored] at their own con.

So, 80% TES V. 10% Thief 4 which has more to do with Stealth games than Fantasy. 10% some out of nowhere revival of a fantasy franchise: Might and Magic? Ultima? Whatever.

So, I'm wondering, if TESV is announced with the upcoming GI, just how crazy will this forum get?

With all those chance percentages given by various people following my post I think that perhaps we should start taking bets in this thread.

Totally understandable, and I am of course hoping with all my might that it will be TESV. In fact my estimates were probably a bit low, because I don't want to get my hopes up and deal with yet another letdown. If the mystery cover does turn out to be TESV, things around here will probably change a lot very rapidly. We'll go from pure speculation and suggestions to attempting to derive new knowledge from what we already know. People will be more hopeful and more excited about the game, and the announcement will draw many new members, so activity will also increase, probably by a lot. I sure hope we get some TES news with GI, and I hope your estimates turn out to be more accurate than mine.

I'm already a bit loopy. I'm having regular dreams about TESV - about coming home to the August GameInformer and seeing it on the cover, about drooling over screenshots, about watching gameplay videos...you know, now that I think about it, the only thing I haven't done in my dreams is actually play the damn thing.

I have issues, I know. I'm so excited to get back into the world of TES that I don't even care at this point. I just want to know a sequel exists.

The general gaming community all seem to think its gonna be an MMO. thats probably because of those rumours a few months ago.

This probably isn't anything at all, but...

Is it any surprise that http://static.gamesas.com/blog/IMG_5310.JPG Do people (as big as Todd Howard) from the company publishing a game usually attend E3 along with the developing team?

...Or was he there to secretly show off something BGS is developing?

Yes, more often than not, they do.

As for whether he had something to show BCD (behind-closed-doors), we won't ever know...

I'm really grasping at straws here, but did you notice he is wearing a Bethesda Game Studios shirt, as opposed to Bethesda Softworks?

If you guys HONESTLY think new game systems are coming out within the next few years, you're all dead wrong. The xbox 360, and ps3 are only just starting to reach their full potential, I mean have you seen Rage on the 360? It's the best graphics I've literally ever seen, and the frame rate is ridiculous. Consoles are only halfway through this generation, and I'm giving the xbox and ps3 a good 6-7 more years before a new console generation, it's not like we have a way to keep magically getting better graphics, it's like getting a highend graphics card for your computer, once you get good enough card, there really isn't that big of a difference between a $400 card and a $300 card. I'm just saying it'll be atleast 10 years before we see some new technology that'll be pretty much as good as it gets graphics wise. It'll mostly come down to the developers themselves on how good the graphics are.

He is part of Beth Game Studios though, as the producer, isn't he?

The way I understand it, its typically bigger names like Todd that attend these events. Senior developers and producers and PR guys, not the world makers and coders.

Yes, Todd is part of Bethesda Game Studios, which developed Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, etc. My question is, would he be at E3 solely because Bethesda Softworks is publishing Brink, Rage, FO:NV, etc.? And if so, why is he wearing a BGS shirt instead of a gamesas shirt?

Well.. its a game company, you know various things, would be great but he could be doing anything around the place, It would just be great if it was TES V really but no warranty

Advertising, guys. And only we even know the distinction anyhow.

Those percentage chances are bunk. We have no way of reliably coming to a numerical conclusion. I'm pretty confident in a more vague way, but that's just gut instinct, not calculation.

Oh, now I get it. I'd say its because he is a famous face. When people think Bethesda they think Todd, and even if he is not technically making any of those games, he is still a famous face/name that people recognize. And yea, its E3. I'd be there too if I had the money.

Of course they're bunk; none of us could possibly have any way to collect statistical data and translate it into accurate projections. The percentages are just a way to express our optimism. Me, I'd love to think it will be TESV and it actually seems quite possible, or even probable, that it could be. But I've been through enough of these hopeful periods that always end in disappointment when it comes to the TESV announcement, so I don't want to put too much stock into any of our speculation. That's why I arbitrarily gave it a 30% chance that the cover will be TESV. It shows that there are solid odds but it's still more likely to be something else, so if it does turn out to be something else at least I'll have been prepared for it.
