Official TES V Speculation Thread #39

P.S. damn Rockville being inconvenient to reach from my current location. That World Art Intern job is looking mighty juicy.

I want the QA Intern opening. I live on the West Coast. FML.

I didn't even account for the guy to be stupid enough to misuse the term "fantasy".

Well, I guess it works for sales. Sure got a lot of your guys money anyway.

That is July right?
The tweet is referring to August.

The tweet came out long after that cover was already revealed. We do not know what it will be for a couple more weeks still.

For some reason, I can't shake off the feeling that the new issue's going to be about Final Fantasy XIV.

To people that don't understand and keep posting the same thing...

The July GI cover is announced in JUNE, but the magazine is released in JULY.

The August GI cover is announced in JULY, but the magazine is released in AUGUST.

For some reason, I can't shake off the feeling that the new issue's going to be about Final Fantasy XIV.

Wasn't that at E3? The tweet said the fantasy sequel was not at E3.

The August cover that the Tweet is referring to hasn't been revealed yet.

EDIT: @SteveJ Not quite. The date on the magazine isn't quite correct, as it actually releases a month earlier than it's supposed to. I already have that Infamous 2 issue, even though it's still only June and that's the July issue.

my friend who has connections at Bethesda said that TESV focuses on an invasion from Atmora, but I could (and am) be pulling that out of thin air.

Quickly, We must overreact to this IMMEDIATELY!!!

That's true, I suddenly remembered that my cousin has a subscription. Is that common for a GI magazine to be released a month before its stated month?

For anyone who is interested:

While waiting for ES:V I suggest you play http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25023. It's like another expansion, and it's very well made. Hopefully it will tide me over till July :)

I just had a REALLY bad thought...

http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs48/f/2009/159/b/9/The_Last_Guardian_wallpaper_by_mad_dragon249.jpg wasn't at E3, and is a massive fantasy game sequel. It's predecessors are http://videogamesatemybaby.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/ico.jpg and http://7twentyfour.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/33dgtw9.jpg, which definitely makes the game worthy of a Game Informer cover. Cover art that will make fantasy fans crap themselves? These guys have been known for their stunning artistry both with http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg249/The-Number-42/woo/shadow_of_the_colossus_by_fellcoda.jpg and http://www.videogamesblogger.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/the-last-guardian-screenshot.jpg.

Daaaamn it! Now I'm worried!

The July edition is revealed in June and sent to subscribers and stores in June. The August edition is revealed in July and sent to subscribers and stores in July. For all intents and purposes, the July edition is the June edition but it's called the July edition. From what I've been able to gather, it's called the July edition because July is when it's taken OFF store shelves, which is called the pull date. The July edition is replaced by the August edition, which is taken off store shelves in August and replaced with the September edition.

It's possible, but I wouldn't really call it "massive." I've heard about it a few times since it's announcement but nobody ever really talks about it aside from when they occasionally release a picture or trailer. Besides, The Last Guardian is quite far from the kind of game Game Informer would put on their cover. Looking at the http://gameinformer.com/mag/covers.aspx on GameInformer.com will tell you that, what with the vast majority of it's covers being either games with guns or very, very hyped up games. The Last Guardian doesn't fall into that category imo.

Seriously? I thought you followed the sites like Kotaku and GameTrailers man? The Last Guardian is so hyped that it came second on GameTrailer's 'Most Wanted' list for E3 2010, out of every known game in development. All the media coverage of Sony's press event is asking where The Last Guardian was. The team's last game, Shadow of the Colossus, is heralded as one of the greatest games on the PS2, often the greatest game, and is regularly cited as an argument for why games should be considered as art. Metacritic scores of their last games?

Ico: 90

SotC: 91

This game is going to be huge, and considering we only have a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHzHoMT5eRg for the game so far and a handful of screenies taken from the trailer, an in-depth reveal in Game Informer is an incredibly likely scenario. I'm now split 50/50 on the next Game Informer being TES:V or The Last Guardian. Seeing as Guardian was unveiled at last year's E3 with that gameplay footage, with nothing being shown since and the game being absent from this year's show... man this fits the bill for that GI tweet just as well as TES:V does.

I'm frightened. Hold me.

I'm more of a Joystiq and VG247 man myself, which very rarely show an interest in The Last Guardian. I concede that it is more hyped up than I initially thought, but I still have a tough time believing it would work as a Game Informer cover. I still have a good feeling it'll be TES V, and if not that, Dragon Age 2, and if not that, then possibly The Last Guardian.

The Last Guardian is not a sequel, so far as I know. It is the next game from the people famous for Ico and SotC, but these three games are not related otherwise. So I think it safely fails the sequel qualification of the tweet. But you're right, it wasn't shown at E3, and the team behind it have a track record for striking visual style.

SotC and Ico were critical darlings that failed to gain traction with the broader gaming public, so I'm not sure it is cover material, added to that it is only on PS3 - if it was a Sony magazine we were talking about, maybe then.

Agreed on the GI cover point. It just doesn't fit; The story just seems a little too quirky.

I'm fairly sure as well that this is finally TES V, and I don't want to keep rehashing, but putting it in perspective, the odds are just too high for this not to be TES V. I mean, we have A LOT going for us wrt to this GI. Its better IMO at this point to look at the big picture.

Well it's good to see so many of you keeping the faith. I can definitely see The Last Guardian as GI cover material, but I think it could go either way with the Skyrim trademark nearing its end. It'll be interesting to see what the cover game is with all these potential games. Another option is of course Final Fantasy versus XIII, since that's a big fantasy sequel that didn't appear at E3, but being a Japanese title I think it's far more likely that Famitsu will get that exclusive.

...added to that it is only on PS3 - if it was a Sony magazine we were talking about, maybe then.

Silly :P InFamous 2 is also a Sony exlusive!

I agree with you that their previous games were only huge hits with the hardcoe gamers, but I imagine Game Informer caters to the core gamers, not the casual. It's a gaming magazine for serious gamers, who want the latest news as soon as possible.
