Official TES V Speculation Thread #39

Post » Thu Feb 24, 2011 11:53 am

Here's the art you were looking for:
http://www.galbadiax.com/oblivion/wallpaper/oblivion-1-800.jpg

If they 404 it, or block it, it's on the first page of google image search "Oblivion"

It's one of the wallpapers on the TES website. All the wallpapers are awesome.

I just hope they don't give up on it.

And to answer people thinking the world will end in 2012, no. 12/21/2012 was the end of the Mayan calendar. Not the end of the world. Just the calendar.

I've had dreams of a Daedric invasion coming in 2011.

I hope beth gets some new, more creative artists this time around...

You thought http://www.galbadiax.com/oblivion/wallpaper/oblivion-1-800.jpg wasn't creative? I think if they wanted to do some cover art for GI they could definitely pull it off.

That one sure (its ok), but most oblivion concept art and even in game texture seem so...bland. Shivering Isles was much much better, I hope whoever did that they keep since it was obviously a different person or said person got a raise. Which proves they CAN do it. I hope they get back on track in the art department.

Cool concept art and cover art has been around for ages, I think they can do better is mainly my point.

Not very creative, no. Look at what it is: A traditional knight, watching a spikey-armored demon-dude step out from a fiery veil surrounded by stones. Yes, there are floating stones, but besides that it's not like it's breaking new ground in the fantasy genre.;) It looks great, sure, but creative isn't the word I'd use.
Don't forget though, that they did become a bit more original with the Shivering Isles.:)

True Oblivion in general wasn't very creative...

But I wouldn't be let down if I saw something like that in the August GI, in my opinion it is pretty good.

I think when people talk about "more creative" art they generally want more fantastical art. I for one enjoy Morrowind and Oblivion's bizarre-but-down-to-earth style more. It make the game seem more realistic despite the ghosts, demons, and floating rocks.

I'll be let down if I dont see something on par with WoW Cata cover art. Now that stuff is amazing, no reason beth shouldnt strive for that quality art. http://blogofidiots.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/wow-cataclysm-19571.jpg

PLenty other games have simmilar quality art, that was just a first link on google images kinda thing.

Indeed. It doesn't have to be as fantasy-inspired and "extreme", but something a bit grander than what we're used to with TES would be nice. That said, this is off-topic.:P

I wouldn't blame Oblivion entirely on the artists. How creative they can be is determined by the creative director above them and the designers above him. Somewhere along the road they decided that Oblivion should be more traditional fantasy, and thats not because an artist couldn't think outside the proverbial box. In other words, Oblivion's style was a conscious decision, not a lack of skill.

WoW is always http://moderateinthemiddle.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/world_of_warcraft_89.jpg http://bestgamewallpapers.com/files/world-of-warcraft/fury-of-the-sunwell.jpg. Thats their thing, but its not TES.

Well like I said its the quality, and its not just wow. They can have down to earth standard traditional fantasy art and still have it look phenomenal, so they chose not to? But this is kinda OT, my hopes are what I hope for and its not going to change a thing so we'll just have to wait :)

You might set yourself up for some disappointment, I think Hello Kitty Island Adventure 2 is the game they are talking about tbh.

Honestly, the only thing that makes me a bit nervous is that TES generally doesn't do pants-wetting concept art.

It is not uncommon for magazines (or maybe it is publishers) to commission a third party to do original art for the cover. It used to be more common in the 16 and 32bit eras (because they couldn't just airbrush up game images back then).

So whatever art is on the cover, it is not necessarily something created in house by gamesas's art team.

To save taking this thread off topic and into concept art, Lady Nerevar has started a thread especially to discuss it.

"Got the cover art in today for the next issue. Giant sequel not at E3, and the art...well, fantasy nuts are gonna crap themselves"

Can anyone clarify if Dragons Age 2 was actually shown at E3 2010? Ive been looking and cant see it... If this being the case then the word sequel will sadly refer to Dragons age 2 as its a sequel. I cant imagine Skyrim being a sequel to oblivion can you??

I very, very much doubt this guy knew, or cared about, the correct term for a game that's the 5th in a series. This guy signed into his twitter, said how awesome the game looked, and went on his merry way. I'm sure if he knew there would be more than 4 pages on a forum dedicated to anolyzing his tweet he would have worded it better.

Well I subscribed to game informer just for this issue, so yeah lol.

I hope you didn't just subscribe this month, because if this next issue is TES V you're screwed. When you first subscribe the next issue doesn't come for a long time after it's sent to regular subscribers, when I did it my magazine didn't come until the end of the month and now I get issues regularly on the 10th-12th. So you'd be better off just getting the next magazine in a store. Of course don't go canceling your subscription, it could turn out to not be TES V next month.

i guess that's ruled out too then. maybe Golden Sun? we seem to be dismissing the hand held games.

Now that E3 is safely behind us, things should hopefully quiet down around here a bit. Some of the game suggestions suggested that fit the tweet's criteria seem to be grasps at straws. So far according to what seems reasonable to me, in order of likelihood, we have TES:V, Dragon Age II, and Diablo III (though not likely) remaining. There just seems little else to sufficiently meet the description of a "giant sequel" that will cause involuntary bowel movements; if it's not any of these (or something else yet to be suggested) then this tweet is just mere exaggeration of epic proportions.

"this tweet is just mere exaggeration of epic proportions. " I'll assume this, common, how often do they over exaggerate as it is? It wouldnt be surprising.

Guys, this is kind of silly. We really have to stop dissecting this tweet, we've been doing it since the last thread for crying out loud. Like Stain said, the only real possibilities are TES: V, Dragon Age II, and Diablo III, and if not, then the guy was just completely exaggerating, which I don't think is too likely. That's all there is to it.

I agree. I see we just wait it out and see if it's TES:V or not. I just hope it is.
