Official TES V Speculation Thread #39

Post » Thu Feb 24, 2011 7:44 am

There is NO OFFICIAL information about a new TES game release.

This thread is for member speculation of when and if TES V will be released. This is where you post any new information about when it might be released, tidbits from interviews which mention it and such.

It is also where you post your theories of when you think it might come out based on guesses, number crunching, rumors or such.

This is about speculating on the next TES game and when -- or if -- it is going to be released. It is not a place for discussion of what is going to be in it, what type of graphics there will be, or any other subject of that type; they belong in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1090035-tes-v-ideas-and-suggestions-164/. If those kind of posts get raised they will be deleted and the poster warned for going off topic.

Please note that this thread is not a personal chat box and that one liners and posts of little substance will be considered as spam and thus the poster will be subject to warnings and suspensions.

No scans of copy righted material are allowed in this thread. All other forum rules apply. You agreed to them, so please read them.

To bring people up to speed:

1) Trademark for Skyrim - still expires end of July
2) An announcement must come before the trademark expiration date or they may lose the mark
3) GameInformer editor tweeted that a giant sequel not at E3 would grace the cover of the next issue and the art would make "fantasy fans crap themselves"
4) E3 came and went without a mention if TES
5) QuakeCon is now indirectly related to Bethesda as both Id and Bethesda are now owned by Zenimax
6) Pete Hines stated that E3 was not a place to announce a game and that they were looking for a way to enhance QuakeCon (all within the same few sentences in an interview)

There are many little disparities and squabbles amongst the various elements stated above, but those are the most current things.

Thanks for that! Let me just add two things:

- First, http://twitter.com/GI_AndyMc/status/15659437114.

- Second, this also may be noteworthy: Morrowind released May 1st, 2002. Oblivion released nearly 4 years later, on March 20, 2006. After doing the math, you find that it's been 4 years and 3 months since Oblivion was released, which is a similar to the span of time between Morrowind and Oblivion. It's definitely been long enough that an announcement would make sense.

I know andy said the art would make us crap ourselves, but I really do think it mostly has to be with the game. I mean honestly, what piece of art from a video game would make someone crap themselves? They would only crap themselves knowing that it was "insert game title here."

I have a good feeling about early July. The pieces seem to be falling in place as anticipated.

What he does is use an ellipse (incorrectly I might add) to show a dramatic pause to emphasize the splendor of the art itself, whose appreciative audience would be members of the fantasy-fan club. It is obviously a game, but for all we know could be El Shaddai which also looks very much like fantasy and is very artful as a game, but is a story based upon the Old Testament... One just never knows...

Months ago when I clicked on your signature, I became a Stain fan, and still am. I love speculation and hope and all that jazz cause it is fun, but since my math didn't work out, the next best thing is vaguery :)

Next date to wait for isn't that far off!

I don't know about that. I can imagine art so good it would etc etc. But everybody takes things differently.

Didn't Fallout 3 annouce on GI?
Im pretty sure it did so it would make it consistent of Bethesda's character to reveal TESV on GI.
This it just more proof to me that I can be optimistic about the coming weeks if not catious.

If history were a repeat offender then we could see GI as the second step since there was always self-publicized reveal just before the GI issue.

Well I've read around, and it looks like only 3 games could really be the possibility, which are

Diablo III
TESV
Dragon Age II

I am putting my bet on TESV for a few reasons:

Diablo III isn't much of a pants-crapping surprise. While it wasn't at E3, it was at Blizzcon, which is where Blizzard, who makes Diablo along with Warcraft and Starcraft, unveils the futures of their titles. And it will be at the next Blizzcon too, which is only a little ways away. Along with Diablo III comes the possibility of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, but it's not a sequel, just an expansion. And as of right now, Blizzard has two main titles coming up in the near future, which are Starcraft II and World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. I think any hype they would be building up would be for either of those titles, because they don't want to distract people with a third title when their other two titles are getting closer to their expected releases. And as I said, with Blizzcon right around the corner, they don't need GI to cover the information that will be flooding the internet anyways.

Bioware, who makes Dragon Age, has been busy with other games as well. Most notably is their MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic, which I would think holds a lot of their attention at the present. It was their big E3 title, and you really need to give plenty of attention to an MMO if you want it to have any chance of it competing with WoW. And aside from that, Mass Effect 3 has been ever-lurking in the shadows, which is a game we know will be made, but not when, and probably not for quite a while more. Given that Dragon Age: Origins was the intermediate title between Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, it is possible that Dragon Age 2 will also find itself between Mass Effect 2 and 3, so it could possibly be their next console release.
Out of all games, Dragon Age is the only other likely choice against TESV because we know it's happening, and in my box for Dragon Age: Awakening, there is a little paper that says "02.01.2011" with nothing else. But I must say, Dragon Age isn't exactly the pants-crapping title that TESV would be; it's more like the Bioware game to occupy my time while I wait for the next Mass Effect game to come out (Because Mass Effect is my favorite game evuh)

Just my two cents. :P

My memory's not so clear, but wasn't a former Bethesda employee - I want to say it was Douglas Goodall - working with another company, developing a brand new role playing ip? That could be the unveiling.

I think Bethesda needs to release this game, before it's fans forget about it. It won't be as cool or popular if they release it an entire year from now.

The only fantasy game that would make me S**T BRICKS is TES:V. No other game.

ha, well, the tweet used the word 'sequel.' See, told you my memory was hazy.

I'd rather see Project Offset, with a final title, on the front cover than TESV. oh well

GI tweet is specific that it is a "Giant Sequel". So no new IPs.

As far as information tidbits to snatch, that GI tweet is tantalizing because "giant sequel" and "not at E3" seem so specific, but "fantasy cover art" can get really vague if you pick at it. Also, its way more entertaining than trying to figure out the mysteries of copyright law :D

There's a possibility that the art from a "giant sequel" could be from Cataclysm, the next WoW expansion. Its release is probably due within the next few months.

Thats an MMO expansion pack, I really don't see it fitting under the banner "sequel". But its good to keep looking for other potential fits for the clue. IMO a Dragon Age sequel is the leading contender for 'game that isn't TES5', but so many other things, small in their own right, have come together to form a much more substantial collection of support for TES5 being the hinted at game for the GI cover (copyright, quakecon, patterns of time and behaviour). Compared to a week or so back before that GI tweet, I have a much better feeling that we will soon hear a confirmation that TES5 is indeed in development.

And sorry Stain, I didn't see it at the time. Hey, if the art is good enough sometimes something happens in my pants, not crap, but something
