Official TES V Speculation Thread # 40

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 6:05 pm

I think the only sure way to know this is if we organise a group of our most seductive forumites and package them to the Beth Game Studios along with crates of Red Bull, Doughnuts and Cheetos and hope to seduce TES V information out of them.

Who volunteers?

Ugh, why junk food? We want to charm information out of them, not give them diabetic diarehea.

Because they are game developers working hard on TES V - what else would they live on? :P

I'd just like to point out that the Last Guardian was at E3 and as such it probably isn't the cover

SOURCE: Look at the name of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHzHoMT5eRg

EDIT: You think that they would count previous E3's or am I just delving too deep?

Definitely delving too deep :P The tweet sprang up a week or two before E3 2010, when the show was on everybody's minds. That's like making a comment about England's performance in the World Cup today, and then saying "Oh I was talking about the 2006 World Cup."

I'm 50/50 on TES:V and The Last Guardian. Though more like 51% TES:V and 49% Guardian.

Ugh, why junk food? We want to charm information out of them, not give them diabetic diarehea.

Caviar and cream teas? Worth a try!

Does anyone remember when Oblivion showed up on the GI cover? How long was it beforehand when Beth or other sites announced Oblivion?

I actually never saw the Oblivion Cover. Anyone still have a picture lying about, give me some indicator of what to expect?

I'll repost my first comment for that cover thing. The context was the thought that the game The Last Guardian could possibly be on the cover.

If The Last Guardian has already been announced with gameplay footage and all what is stopping GI to do a Guild Wars 2 Cover? Arenanet has some of the most talented artists in the market with their lead, Daniel Dociu winning multiple art awards. They did not visit E3 and with Guild Wars 2 being a sequel as well what did you rule this one out for? I probably missed a discussion on why this was ruled out but never saw, sorry if I am just wasting your time.

Example concept art links:

Like I said sorry if this was already discussed and I missed it as most of you see I just joined today.

[censored]. You're right. For people who don't know. GW2 will have a demo available in PAX (which is in August). This is coming from a huge GW2 follower, s in I've been playing GW1 for 2.5k+ hrs and been following GW2 since people thought it was vaporware. My avatar here is my GW1 character even lol. I mean literally, ANet is doing inteerviews are a lot of gaming sites, why wouldn't they include GI?

So, screw the Dragon Age II vs ES:V arguement. There's more evidence supporting GW2 vs ES:V. I can't choose between the two, as they are both like the only games I'm looking forward too :(

Evidence supporting ES:V -

- Skyrim trademark ends in August (right?)
- Big announcement at QuakCon, which is in August
- Fantasy fans will "crap themeselves". You can't be a Fantasy genre fan if you haven't played Elder Scrolls lol.

Evidence supporting GW2 -

- PAX is in August. Which is almost literally in their backyard.
- Demo is in August. (could be merged with the above I suppose, but there is also a demo at GamesCon in July)
- Anet's concept artists are the best in the biz. People will crap themselves if they see their best on the cover of GI.
- ANet is on the hype-train until they release.

About TESV on current gen or next gen

"European Microsoft executive Chris Lewis has said that E3′a combination of a new slimmer, quieter Xbox 360 and Kinect will extend the machine’s life-cycle by five years"

Edit: Well If TESV will be released in 2015, it could be next gen :)

I don't read GI myself, haven't really picked up a gaming mag in years (I would subscribe if it were a good value like they offer in the US for most Future published mags, but its not).

My question is just how much PC-only coverage does GI include? I don't know why, but I always assumed for some reason they were an all-consoles style magazine, but not heavy on PC, or maybe no PC at all... But I don't know why I assumed this.

Is GW2 the kind of thing they would put on the cover typically, a PC MMO?

Well I havn't subscribed to GI in a couple years (I think GOW2 cover was the last issue I got), but generally no, they are more console based. They DO talk about PC tho.

I do not understand why people are saying they are going to announce games that have already been announced. What would be the purpose of showing The Last Guardian be, Guild Wars 2, or Diablo 3? Everyone already knows about these games. The only logical choices are Dragon Age 2 and TES V.

Actually, the tweet doesn't say it is going to be an announcment, it just says the cover is going to be a 'giant sequel' that was 'not at E3', and will feature art that will make 'fantasy fans crap themselves'.
Link to the tweet: http://twitter.com/GI_AndyMc/status/15659437114

Now GI prides themselves on having cover features that break new games (I listend to a great podcast about the re-birth of gaming magazines last month with a GI interview) so it is probable that it might be a cover reveal, but the tweet itself does not say whether it is a game that has or has not yet been officially announced. So we can't discount GW2 or D3 on that particular ground.

It depends, really. Is there money under the table? If there aren't, then D3/GW2/TLG would be less interesting for the reader than TESV. If they had to choose right now, I'm absolutely certain they'd prefer to show TESV than one of the already announced games, but that is if there is anything to show.

I have a subscription. They are pan-platform. If it's a good game, they don't give a damn what it's on or exclusive for. If it's bad, it's bad whether it's controller, motion or keyboard and mouse. I wish more people were like that.

Now, I am assuming whatever the GI cover will be, it will be a first-time announcement. That rules out a few things, right? Generally, that is what a GI cover is, the particular issue's biggest announcement.

Well, the most realistic games to be shown are (I believe) Diablo 3, Dragon Age 2, Guild Wars 2, and TES V. The Last Guardian was shown on E3.
So if it's a first-time announcement, I can only imagine it being Dragon Age 2 or TES V (40% for DA2, 40% for TES V, and 20% for something else?).

If we must use numbers, then yours seem to be the most reasonable. Since we're thinking in terms solely of fantasy, sequels and first-time reveals it will likely either be those or some total surprise.

I still feel like it's too soon for a full blown Dragon Age 2 cover. I think we'll be hearing more about Mass Effect 3 before we hear anything about another Dragon Age.

And, BioWare stated that they wanted to make multiple expansions for Dragon Age: Origins.

Yeah, that's true. Isn't that Darkspawn Chronicles coming out soon/recently as well?

Things look good for TESV.

I wouldn't have thought so. Game magazines are a dying breed, so being offered the chance for an exclusive would be payment enough, especially with something as huge as TES:V.

The Last Guardian was shown on E3.

 No it wasn't.

"The Last Guardian's absence is nearly as mysterious. The upcoming title from Team Ico may very well be one of the industry's most-anticipated games – not only the core PlayStation community's – but there was no mention of it at this year's E3" - IGN

"Its lack of appearance at Sony's press conference was one of the biggest complaints among 1UP's staff and readers." - 1UP

And, BioWare stated that they wanted to make multiple expansions for Dragon Age: Origins.

That's a good point. DA:Awakenings included a mysterious date for February 2011 though, which has led some to believe that February is the expected release date for DA2. Fingers crossed it's the announcement and reveal date for DA2 instead.

I think Blizzard are far more focused on Star Craft 2 and Cataclysm to move onto Diablo 3 marketing yet, and with the trademark for Skyrim, and the mysterious absence of The Last Guardian at E3, i'd say Guild Wars 2 is less likely to be the cover game than those two. My money's still on TES:V for the moment. Bethesda has been far too quiet about their in-house development for far too long now.
