Official TES V Speculation Thread # 40

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 11:49 pm

Building on my earlier post about contacting GI's Andrew Reiner:

After he replied "nope" to my question about looking into the TESV E3 rumor I asked him if they knew anything at all about TESV.

I never got a response.

I take that as a good sign. Silence is golden.

And if anyone wants to see for themselves if what I'm saying is true, feel free to check out my GI online profile. My member name is KimboFife.

Good news, everyone! I was scouring through the E3 Prediction articles GameInformer was running pre-E3 (Days http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/06/07/e3-prediction-week-day-one.aspx, http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/06/08/e3-prediction-week-day-two.aspx, http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/06/09/e3-prediction-week-day-three.aspx, http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/06/10/e3-prediction-week-day-four.aspx, and http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/06/11/e3-prediction-week-day-five.aspx) and I noticed some interesting things:

  • As noted previously in this thread, there was absolutely no prediction of any Elder Scrolls-related reveals. Could this indicate early knowledge that it was not going to show up at the show at all - that a prediction was worthless because they already know it would be gracing their cover in the August issue?
  • The Last Guardian was listed as an E3 prediction in their http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/06/09/e3-prediction-week-day-three.aspx article. If they had prior knowledge that The Elder Scrolls V was definitely not going to make a showing, then this is a sure indicator that they had no idea whether or not The Last Guardian was going to be at E3. That kills any possibility of a Last Guardian GameInformer cover.

Playing Devil's advocate, if The Last Guardian really is the August cover, then they must have included that to cover their tracks. If so, why in the world would they not predict TESV? It's a huge game and nobody would've been that surprised if we saw it revealed at E3, so what's the deal?

I think it's much more likely that TESV is actually the August cover, and that's why it's absent from the list of predictions, unlike The Last Guardian. Even commenters on the prediction articles complain that TESV is absent from the list.

I guess what it comes down to is which possibility you find more believable: that TESV wasn't predicted because they had prior knowledge that it would be on their cover in August, or that it was forgotten (5 times in a row, no less) and a Last Guardian prediction was included to throw us off the scent. Personally, I'm definitely in the former camp.

I like the logic, but you're missing the most obvious point I think: The Last Guardian was announced at last year's E3 and is one of Sony's most hyped exclusive titles, whereas nothing has been mentioned about TES:V at all. If they were covering their own tracks then they covered them well. The Last Guardian was on everyone's most expected and wanted list at E3. TES:V is a title that people would love to hear about, but have no evidence for. It would have been like putting Half Life 2: Episode 3, and Uncharted 3 on the list. Obviously being planned, but not at all expected.

With these two pieces of evidence, and everything else, I think it is safe to say TESV will be the cover of the August GI issue.

Ya, but from my experiences; I'd say 95% of the time the cover of GI is a new release.

Well, GameInformer did predict to see The Last Guardian at E3. But Andy McNamara a couple days before they predicted that said that the cover for the next GI was not at E3. So they probably had no idea whether or not The Last Guardian would be at E3, but McNamara sounded definite that the cover was NOT going to be at E3.

You're convincing me, damn you! I wish to have no expectations!

KimboFife: "According to Famitsu, we'll be getting an Elder Scrolls V announcement at E3. You guys should look into this."
Andrew Reiner: "Nope"
KimboFife: "Do you guys know anything about TES V?"
Andrew Reiner: [no answer]

GAAAH~ I want no expectations! Maaaan~ I've failed myself! Gimme early July, so I can get rid of this pain - announcement or not!

It was just announced that Bethesda has delayed Brink once again, now it will be released in 2011. What does this have to do with TES? Well not only is Brink due in 2011 but RAGE, Hunted, and possibly DOOM 4. What this translates to is we are screwed. I seriously doubt Bethesda would release these 3 (or 4) games and TES:V in the same year. 2012 :~( God help us!

For gods sake people, are you not aware that many other publishers with in-house developers such as Activision and EA release many, many titles every year, and announce more titles whenever they damn well please? The games Bethesda is publishing are not, and will not, be affected by any announcement of TES V, nor will TES V be affected by these games. If that was the wacky world we lived in, publishers like EA and Activision could not exist because every time they announced a new game, the gamers of the world would go "Dah, new game comin, I forgit about the odars now" as they picked their respective noses. You guys seem to think that that's exactly what will happen when TES V is announced, but let me let you in on a little secret... it wont.

Besides, Bethesda's games take more than a year, and closer to two years, to be released after their announcement. TES V coming out in Fall 2011 isn't a stretch, but chances are it'll be sometime in 2012, and not because of the published titles, but because that's just how Bethesda works. I can confidently say that by the time TES V is released there will be even more published games coming out around the same time.

Lol...I was thinking the same thing.

Guys, the circumstantial evidence is mounting toward critical mass; we're not quite there yet but we're tantalizingly close. Soon my darlings. Very Soon.

Then again, we might be disappointed in what we see. People are going to be even more aggressive about this game, and all the people who had serious doubts about Oblivion before it came out will feel all the more right about the new one.

At this point I find the forum here fun enough, and I'm probably never playing Oblivion or Morrowind or Arena again.

You may be right Shades. Of course, anyone that overhypes something will be disappointed. That's how I felt about Red Dead Redemption. Of course, it was a great game, it just wasn't the perfect game I expected it to be. Let's hope that all the speculation and suggestions over the course of several years will lead to something great.

Played them and beat them, but they weren't interesting enough to get past that. It was all trudging after a point. I was very disappointed with Morrowind. I've still got Daggerfall and Battlespire to play some more, and my copy of Redguard for when I feel like some funky sword fighting.
