Official TES V Speculation Thread # 43

Post » Thu Apr 07, 2011 7:42 pm

I think the admins would have said something if this upcoming cover wasn't TES V like they did for the E3 speculation. We're getting a TES V announcement with this next issue.

We have been fervent for GI covers before and no one stepped in... granted we didn't have the tweet to feed our frenzy, but they have never once stepped in during those discussions (I would think because GI would likely play into their announcement plans). E3 was different as "respected" news sources were inaccurately reporting the lack of answers on a poll as that Bethesda had secret plans... quelling misinformation is different than easing the fan frenzy...

Unless someone from Bethesda wants to swoop in and prove me wrong, I think this right here is our confirmation that something is happening. A simple acknowledgment that they are indeed watching and reading these threads. They know that we're almost absolutely convinced that something's happening soon and they don't dissuade us in any way. Why would they let so many dedicated fans be so disappointed unless they weren't actually going to be disappointed?

Something's TES-related is definitely stirring. I'm excited.

Dude. First of all, Nick Breckon is a community manager. Of course he's gonna be on the forums a lot.

Second, devs have always read and posted on the forums.

This time is definitely different than past GI covers; the expectations are a lot higher. Realistically, the last GI's didn't really have any evidence behind them. This fits with that trademark expiration, and the quote from Andy McNamara.

True, but the point of this thread is to speculate and they have never stopped us from doing so.

Okay, I'm saying Monday the 5th, Tuesday the 6th, or Friday the 9th. Or not at all, perhaps. :cryvaultboy: At any rate, I see next week as a "do or die" kind of deal.

So it would seem. But thankfully, if it's not on the GI cover, there is still a possibility of it being at QuakeCon. :ahhh:

Why does no one expect tommorow as the reveal for the cover? It is July 1st, wouldn't be breaking rules I think.

And I'll say it's the 2nd or the 9th. Brace yourselves for the incoming horde, laddies. :obliviongate:

And if they stopped you, that would defeat the purpose of a speculation thread, wouldn't it.

Guys, I think the devs and admins have better things to do than play our little game of "if they do this, it means this, if they don't, it means this." Just because they're reading this thread doesn't mean they're contemplating how to handle all of our amazing speculation skills.

Yeah, we're all over anolyzing every shred of possibility. The waiting game is no fun.

I've got like $3.80 in my ash tray in the car... I could use someone to do my dishes :)

The speculation about an E3 announcement did not end until E3 did. They attempted to stop it but were not successful. :D

Ah, but they tried. Which is certainly a lot more than what they're doing about the stuff regarding Game Informer's next issue.

Of course, this silence from them could also be because they know we'd just pick apart what they'd say. This way, we generate our own hype before the reveal, without them having to create any extra work for the community managers (or themselves).

I'm honestly not trying to spam this thread, and if this type of speculation is considered spam, then I'm sorry, but:
Why are there so many anonymous and guest viewers for this thread, more than any thread on these boards?
Earlier, 56 users were reading this, yet only 7 members were. That means 49 people who aren't signed in, or trying not to be seen, are viewing this thread.
I just think that's a little weird. Maybe it means something, and maybe it doesn't.

My guess is that a lot of people not normally acquainted with these forums are curious about TES:V and looking for information...or else it's big brother keeping an eye on us! :ninja:

I'm not saying every post not related to speculation is spam, but things like arguing over Oblivion and suggesting things kind of are. Anyway, there is almost always a bunch of guests reading these topics. This thread seems to be the most active thread for guests to look at on this board, that I've noticed at least. The only explanations I can think of are what Stain said, either it's a bunch of people who want to know about TES V but don't want to register, or a good chunk of employees at Bethesda stalk this thread for some strange reason. Maybe they talk about it at the watercooler or something, haha. "Hey did you hear Antibody's great idea for an IHRA Drag Racing title, with the talking horse that's a cop and going through a tough divorce?" "Yeah, it's great, we should totally cancel every other one of our games to work on it." :P

Seriously though, part of me wants them to devote a (small) group of people to make a new IHRA Drag Racing game while they work on TES V. That series is a huge, ugly embarrassment in comparison to their other amazing games, and if they could only make even one good title in that series, maybe it wouldn't be such a huge embarrassment.

I expect that, considering how confident some of the board's users are about the game being announced soon, some talk of TESV has spread to other gaming boards around the web. Throw in the tweet and you have speculation already rampant at probably every major fantasy/RPG website, and every one of those speculations is bound to include TESV. So you have rumors and whispers about TESV circulating around the internet now, and naturally curious folk will come check out the boards to see if we know anything they don't.

The crazy thing is that if the game actually IS announced soon, most of those guests will register and their friends will too. Honestly if I were Beth -- assuming they are already planning on making an announcement within the next couple of months -- I'd probably just make the reveal now. Nothing fancy, just a simple announcement on the official website saying "TES V: Skyrim is coming." Maybe throw in a piece of concept art. They could still do the full reveal as scheduled, but IMO they should capitalize on all the hype while it's still strong. If they announce TESV now -- even just a simple official word that it's coming -- then the current peak of curiosity will multiply and become an absolute torrent of activity. If the GI cover is not TES and if they don't announce it elsewhere in the next couple of weeks, this hype will die down and be replaced by annoyance at the best, and indifference at the worst. They should take advantage of this wave of interest before they miss it, because honestly I don't think there will be a time when the site has garnered more curiosity by outsiders.

Of course this is just a twisted justification for my hopes that the game is indeed announced soon, and it relies on the assumption that Beth is more or less ready to announce the game, even if they aren't planning on doing so in the immediate future.
