Official TES V Speculation Thread # 43

Post » Thu Apr 07, 2011 6:35 pm

Well I just read the book now in the hope that it would sate my hunger for Elder Scrolls, but my level of anticipation for the next game has only gotten higher. I need to just go away to the countryside for a week to get my mind off of things and just hope that I'm greeted with a present or something upon my return.

But I'm way too lazy to drive out to the countryside.

Hahaha. I just did the same thing. This forum has gotten me so excited that I needed something to get me through the next week. And since my copy of Oblivion is broken, the book will have to do. I'm about half way through. Decent so far...

Fable 3 was shown at E3, so as long as the twitter announcement's requirements were correct (a sequel not shown at E3), then it can't be Fable 3. Current possibilities are: TES:V; Diablo 3; Dragon Age 2; The Last Guardian; and Guild Wars 3.

And wow, you're really invoking the wrath of the moderators by discussing drinking age and American socialism :o

Here's a bit of optimism. We know that the GI person (who I'm going to assume was telling the truth) said something along the lines of the cover would make fantasy lovers crap in their pants. Therefore, why would it be about an already announced game?

Diablo 3 has multiple gameplay videos and screenshots up, along with a ton of information.
The Last Guardian was announced last year and had an 2009 E3 trailer. Subjectively not a game fantasy lovers would all unite in amazement over.
DA2 is too soon after DA:O, especially considering they are probably going to have to completely rewrite their engine as it was terrible graphics-wise in DA:O.
Guild Wars 3...obviously not that if GW2 is coming out in 2011. Besides, we already know a ton about GW2 with the multiple trailers, screenshots, and interviews.

Unrestrained optimism is fun, ya know?

The Last Guardian has already been ruled out. I guess my reasoning got buried underneath spam some threads back. Anyway, the reason why, is that GameInformer predicted to see The Last Guardian at E3. Andy McNamara tweeted a day or two before they put that prediction on the site, that the cover is NOT at E3. Now, they would have known The Last Guardian wouldn't be at E3, so they wouldn't have predicted to see it at E3.

Although, someone else brought this information. I just clarified it a bit.

I don't remember who it was though.

And here is where I will insert a degree of Devil's Advocacy:

The quote never indicated that the game would be an RPG, and it could be for something that no one is expecting at all.

And I will counter that by saying that most RPGs are fantasy games, and he did say it would be a fantasy game. :3

Most, but not all.

I would crap myself if they released a Fantasy: Total War game.

Also note that the GI guy made no reference to any specific platform. This may just be an oversight, but it seems that he would make a qualifier if it were platform specific. Diablo 3, GW2, and The Last Guardian all are exclusives to a platform. TES:V is not. Again, a very loose interpretation. Putting fantasy lovers under one roof like in the statement seems to suggest that its is a multiplatform game due to the fact he didn't say MMO or PS3 fantasy lovers.

I'm still a tad worried about DA2. Edit: Ah right, Uber, forgot about that bit.

Right, a sequel.

Which means nothing new, but maybe something very old.

Unfortunately he didn't. He produced a very short and concise line that stated the 'cover art would make fantasy fans crap themselves' - or something very similar. Fantasy themed cover art could technically apply to any game, and certainly applies to hundreds of non-rpg games. Action adventure games' art style could make fantasy fans crap themselves, such as this http://siliconsasquatch.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/sotc.jpg from Shadow of the Colossus. That looks awesome. And that's why I still give The Last Guardian a lot of weight as a contender for the cover.

Perhaps it is the new Respawn production, Call of Duty: Magical Warfare.

I doubt we will see any IP steering off into the fantasy direction with the economy the way it is. They need stable IP's and switching genres does not help.

I approve of this post. Here's some more optimism for ya'll...

GI did a whole week of E3 predictions leading up to the start of the event (This was after McNamara's tweet about the August cover). In that whole week of speculation, they didn't mention TES V once, even though the rest of the internet was buzzing about Famitsu's story on Bethesda's supposed secret E3 announcement. They must have already known TES V wasn't gonna be at E3 because they knew it was gonna be their August cover story. During this week of speculation, I contacted GI's Andrew Reiner and suggested they look into the Famitsu TES V rumor. He responded almost immediately with a simple "nope." I than asked him further if GI knew anything about TES V and I never got a response. Another good sign for the chances of our TES V cover is that GI did predict that Last Guardian would be at E3. If the Last Guardian was in fact their cover, they wouldn't have done that. If anyone want's to check the validity of what I'm saying, feel free to check my GI online profile(KimboFife). Its all right on there. And while you're there, check out my Elder Scrolls blogs.

Mark my words friends, TES V will be the August cover story...

But it would make sense that only a previously unannounced game would make someone "crap" themselves (God, I hate that word). You would not do so able a game you already know is in production and know a bit about (ie The Last Guardian); no, logic suggests that only a major new announcement would do so. If I'm waiting for an announced game and they show some additional media, it's not going to make me defecate myself (much better).

Guys, you are really, really, really over-anolyzing this guy's tweet. He said the new cover art would make fantasy fans crap themselves. He wasn't trying to give hints, he was just excited about the cover. What you guys are doing is basically the same as anolyzing a tweet that said "Holy hell I can't wait to get some fast food later, I'm starving," and then arguing over what restaurants qualify as fast food, if he really is starving, etc etc. Come on...

We're over the post limit, so someone should probably do something about it...not me, I wouldn't know what to do.

Anyway, the QuakeCon website is up and running. http://www.quakecon.org/

I haven't really found anything that could be relating to a TES V reveal, nor did I expect to.

It seems like they're going to use this years QuakeCon to promote Fallout: New Vegas, Brink, and Hunted: The Demons Forge.

It's just fun speculating. If it doesn't turn out the way we want, I won't be devastated. I have plenty of other games to keep me company before then.
