Official TES V Speculation Thread # 48

Post » Mon Apr 18, 2011 4:25 am

Can someone give me a breakdown on how skyrim compares to cyrodiil? What would it look like will there still be lush forests, rolling hills and beautiful vegetation and water...

Just because i don't know, but who exactly is Gstaff ?

I think his name is "Matt Grandstaff", but he's an ex-Detroiter who is now a "Community Manager" for Bethesda.

On the other hand, I still believe DA2 is a valid option... but USPTO is making me think it ought to be TESV Skyrim.

Also taking a longer look at the TM stuff...

Skyrim is TESV,
Dishonored is likely Zenimax Online's project. Most likely an Elder Scrolls MMO.
Deathmark is the most recent... Possibly TESV's expansion pack? Otherwise, this is Vir2L's next EST game
Giant Monster News... I'd guess Vir2L + Wii?

Someone speculate on my Speculation!

So he's someone in the know then?

EDIT: Also, i'm still not sure about DA, seems much too early for me :)

Gstaff is in the know about some things. Certainly he's aware of "things that involve Bethesda and the media", as he's frequently ahead of more high-profile employees about correcting misunderstood comments (Famitsu, for example). He certainly knows what the development team is up to. He isn't obviously privy to secret details about it. Nor is he obviously unaware of these details.

So... if it relates to making sure we've got the straight scoop on what Todd and Pete really said/meant in an article, he's pretty well informed. Anything more specific? who knows!

All the ones from this year are excellent. They're doing something right.

The ones from the 90s are nostalgia overload.

Going from issue 1 to the latest was pretty incredible. 20 years of tech advancement is pretty visible there! TES in 20 years time... couldn't even begin to imagine. -ahem- Back on topiiiiic...

I'd say the release would be on this friday coming. Just before the weekend seems like a good time to me, everyones off with spare time to see the web announcement and then the mag comes out... well, whenever it comes out. No idea when GI's hit the stalls.

Yeah, but it wasn't just the forum. Bethesda's main site as well as the Elder Scrolls site were down. That's what got me.
Anyway, everything seems up and running again without any major changes.

If Bethesda is going to update their site chances are they'll do it during their office hours, not 3:00am ;)

Here's what I don't know. Would uploading the new cover to the GI website be the first thing someone did when they got into the office a given morning, or would it be like 3PM and then it goes up?

If their cover is going along with a game announcement they'll have to coordinate with the game's publisher so its unlikely that they'd get it done first thing in the morning.

I certainly don't want to dampen people's excitement but it may be worthwhile to temper it a bit - whether or not you get hyped up about the possibility of an Elder Scrolls V announcement now if that's what it turns out to be you'll be excited. However if it isn't TES V, or if this isn't getting revealed for much longer than you expect, getting too anxious now is just going to drive you nuts.

This is a general comment by the way, not something directed at TengenToppa, there have been plenty of people in this thread the past few days who seemed to be going a little nuts over this GI cover reveal.

Meh. I'll keep my hopes up anyways. As much as I love TES and want to see another one, I've been disappointed by much more important things, so TES not being announced won't be a crushing blow. And even without a GI cover, QuakeCon is coming up, trademark stuff, blah blah.

Alright, Imma go shower up, I'll check in again before I leave for work.

Funny enough I'd say that's a good attitude :)

In my experience big announcements from Bethesda are usually posted in the late afternoon, 3:00-5:00pm. Of course if the GI announcement isn't Bethesda related it could show up any time.

Yes, see I missed Oblivion's announcement by two weeks back in the Lurker Days. So I have no experience with seeing a TES game announced.

Seemed perfectly plausible since it was 09.00am here when it happened.

Damn you time zones!

But yeah, so if it's gonna be at 3-5 on a given day, then I will likely be at work, especially if it's on Friday which is my longest day. But just see my foolproof method of figuring it out from a little while ago.

Looking at the GI archives, it seems like the majority of their covers are released on either the 8th or 9th. These two moreso than any other date between the 5th and 12th.

Well, now that the first day back from the US long weekend has come and gone without a peep from GI, I guess we just go back to a more relaxed holding pattern. The cover will come sometime in the next week or so, and when it does, it may be TESV, or it may not.

From my perspective it isn't a giant deal really; I take it as an inevitability that Todd's team is working on the next TES game, it just seems like the obvious next step after FO3, and there have been enough coy non-denials and circumstantial hints and tidbits to shore up this feeling for me. If we do get an announcement by way of the upcoming GI cover, that is great, but I also have the feeling little concrete information will be forthcoming. Either way, it will doubtless be another year at least before we see a release, so we've got plenty of waiting time left.

I think we could all benefit from dialling back the intensity around here. TESV is almost certainly happening, be cool.

Dragon Age came out in November. There is no way they have done an engine rewrite (because the old one was terrible) and enough visuals and gameplay stuff to warrant a cover and article already considering that the Bioware team has also had to do Awakening, other DA DLC, and the Overlord DLC. Plus finish polishing ME2. They are still putting out another piece of DLC, which means the art guys are still working on DA1, and haven't moved on to DA2.

Just out of curiosity, what time is it in the ol' US of A? My first thought on reading this was that I wouldn't have to wait long at all to see if today would be the day of the GI announcement (if it is Beth related, of course), and then I remembered I don't live in America and it's a completely different time of day there

I understand that everyone is waiting for a TES5 announcement, but consider this: the more time Bethesda will develop the game, the better it will be. So if the upcoming GI magazine is not about TES5, you should also appreciate it. It's WIN-WIN scenario in both situations anyway.

They've been working on it for 4, 5 years, it takes 2-3 years to make a good video game. If they take too long it will never be released.

I don't want it to end up like Duke Nukem' and never be released.

That will never happen! Bethesda is not a Mickey Mouse studio. I'm sure Todd Howard is steering the ship in the right direction!!

How long did it take to get Morrowind made after Daggerfall was released? 7 years? 9?
