The GI Cover could also be a sequel to Risen ( developed by Piranha Bytes ). B)

Todd Howard did say in an interview that they're still using their engine, but they're completely reworking it.

The more and more I hear about the iD tech 5 engine and what it can do for open world games like RAGE, the more I want Bethesda to be working with it.

That's what I believe we decided a couple threads back. There would be no need to change engines if they are already used to using gamebyro. I bet they upgraded it after Fallout 3.

They have definitely upgraded the engine since Fallout 3. I'm hoping they put a little more focus on animations. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Nobody knows anything about what Zenimax Online is doing. They seem to lurk deeper in the shadows than Bethesda Game Studios. I suppose some people think that's a good thing.

Todd Howard said in the podcast with Kotaku that they've made "large changes to [their] basic technology", and specifically said they're redoing the animation system.

Isn't it too soon for that? No doubt it's been discussed and dismissed already - sorry if I'm retreading old subjects.

Sweet. Their animations for oblivion were kinda goofy.

I seriously hope when he says large he means LARGE. After the amount of time I spent in the uncanny valey *caugh* I mean Cyrodiil of Oblivion and Fallout 3 I came to hate the subtle weirdnesses of that engine. I was hoping for a completely new engine, or id tech 5. But if he says large lets hope he means that the engine will be almost unrecognisable.

Crap. Well, let's hope they use lightsprint, umbra, and all those other awesome technologies to make up for the Gamebryo's inefficiencies and deficiencies...

Well that really screws up the modding situation, doesn't it? Old tools wouldn't work.

I'd prefer a brand new updated and tweaked version of Gamebryo Lightspeed

When he said large (actually I think it may have been major), but he emphasized MAJOR. "MAJOR changes to our basic technology".

Todd also said, "We're very aware of our technical deficiencies".

And of course, spoke directly of revamping the animation system as an example when he said they're aware that the NPCs in their games don't exactly behave that well on screen, so they want to fix that.

Zenimax Online Studios is using the Hero Engine, the same engine Bioware is using for the old republic MMO.

You can see testimonials on the hero engine website by Zenimax Online developers if you keep refreshing the page. http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=16368

The engine doesn't really influence how a game looks that much. I hadn't heard of this, thanks Mikedzines

[edit] holy poop, Hero Engine looks awesome. Way too excited now.
